Yeah they'd be absolutely fine for this, maybe even a touch over spec'd for that kind of work. That being said, they are windproof, waterproof and breathable so should be more than capable of handling that kind of treatment. Hello, It is very waterproof and windproof but doesn't have a great deal on insulation. This would be the outer layer of a multiple layer system to protect you from the elements. No the hood cannot be removed, it can be rolled up and stored within the collar, so kept out of the way and if you're good with your folding it up it doesn't feel too bulky.
