You mean when he decided to do his version prong? Like both bands, grew up with them, but prong did it first, page saw prong, and that influence is pretty strong.
@@vorpalblades correct they formed in ‘89 but they instantly came out with odd time signatures and polyrhythms. Meshuggah did not hone in on this til the mid 90’s
U all sound #FullRetard pretending this guy can eve play guitar, at all = awful hashy trash cheesy tone & no soloing skill whatsoever. It's embarrassing =)) 40 years of playing & never bothered 2 learn 2 play a scale or something 2 do an actual solo? WTF? Seriously OMG =;-o
My first show was Helmet & Faith No More. Helmet was out for Meantime & FNM was out for Angel Dust. I was blown away by Helmet. So tight & massive guitar tones. Always been a fan of Page’s, his jazz playing is phenomenal too.
Page is a super stand up dude! He's always been super cool to me, and we've had several great convos over the years. Massively underrated player and songwriter. Def a purveyor of heavy articulate music. Doesn't matter how many times I've seen them, their sheer power, volume and tightness live is unmatched. I get goosebumps just thinking about it. He will always be an influence on myself as a guitar player in many ways. thanks guys!
I just found that silver Horizon he’s playing, and bought it on Reverb, great guitar. I wanted one since it came out in 2006, couldn’t be happier. And it was made at the Kiso custom shop.
The Melvins and Helmet were my two favs back in the day. Was lucky enough to see both on the same bill more than once as The Melvins were based in SF (where I lived) for many years.
LOL!! Melvins do actual songs =)) Helmet is talentless = just some tight chord stuff, in the early days. The guy can't even solo at all = this is ridiculous.
Great interview. I love the DiMarzio Air Zone which should be called the Page Hamilton model. Great pickup. Also love those Fryette/Pitbulls. The ultimate metal amp. Cool ESPs too. Page Hamilton is a very underrated player. The man is brilliant.
HIs tone is absolute $hit, I'm guessing mostly ruined by that silly orange boss pedal = no focus 2 it = more like a broken radio. Funny how many fools use pedals instead of the much better sounding real amp right next 2 them = WTF? =)) #DeafRetards
Page was and still is a great inspiration when I first picked up the guitar. I had no idea what tuning they were in when I first started playing and detuned my Gibson all the way down to B to mimic that sound. It turned out so cool I kept it to this day, so thanks Page.
Helmet is one of those bands that while I never got really into, still managed to be a notable influence for me. Metal and even grunge and everything in the mid 90's was still lacking heavily in terms of groove and bands like Helmet and Rage Against the Machine really showed how you could apply groove to heavier music in a great way. And I've never forgotten this lesson, even as I play more complex stuff, I still have this kind of innate need to make my music something you can feel you can move to.
thank you for signing my poster at the SLC stop a few months ago....TO A-A-Ron right at the end of the set. Amazing night, and thank you for continuing to be a massive influence sit Strap It On. Blessings to you all.
Page is the coolest. he seems like the nicest guy you could ever meet. and he's super nerdy with the gear, just like me. plus, he's got some killer riffs. love me some Helmet.
Awesome video! I don’t usually fawn over too many guitarists, but Page is without a doubt my guitar hero. Helmet inspired me to play guitar over 30 years ago, and I’m still at it today. I’ve always been in awe of his tone and technique, and although I’m heavily influenced by him, I’m on my own quest to find my sound, and I might be getting closer! Keep on rocking in the free world, and thanks for the interview!
First time I ever even heard of him was the guitar solo on Unbeliever by Therapy? from 1994's Troublegum. Easily the best alternative rock album of all time imo.
Page is one of my favorite guitar players (up there with Zappa), and I’m primarily a drummer!! His rhythmic style is something I innately understand and I love busting out Helmet riffs when I pick up a guitar 🎸🤘
What a treat this was & such a nice down to earth chap. Everyone who plays modern heavy music has been influenced by this man. Most just don't know it.
It was a huge musical highlight for me when i saw Helmet live at viper room in LA years ago. Total legend. My music professors who were always jazz pianists did NOT like that I said I wanted to learn to sound like Page Hamilton; screw those professors.
Coming up as a young guitar player in 2004-2005 I wasn't that big on Page's ESP model but looking at it here it looks absolutely unreal. Not a prolific Helmet fan but the track "Crashing Foreign Cars" from 'Size Matters' was the soundtrack to my adolescence - great guitar tone and performances all around. I didn't realise it was Page on vocals lol.
its the unpopular opinion, but while the old shit is great, you need to check out SIZE MATTERS - helmet that was supercharged with john tempesta on drums, chris traynor on guitar, and frank bello on bass. that record is insanely heavy, perfectly produced, top tier songwriting and riffcraft, and all bangers!!
I thought he was a millionaire Rock Star. Didn't he get like a $5,000,000 signing deal back in the day? Anyway still love Helmet, and Page. True story saw him with my Hippie Dad, open for Faith No More cuz he wanted to see the rock jazz guy he read about. I showed him the video two days before the show, and was like this is the band we're going to see. He was like Oooh priceless I'll never forget it as long as I live lol.
@@DavidOakesMusic Or when a company is making you whatever you want in their custom shop, just request no neck pickup in your build, especially if it's a signature model. Move the location of the volume knob while you're at it.
The host has those glassy eyes. LOLOLOL I wonder why? LOLOL JK. I wonder if page ever done any music for industrial adult videos? LOLOLL His guitar tone sure sounds like it. Yeah, Big Page proves that ESP and metal guitars are not only for metal heads but for anyone.
