Yeah me too, but considering the length and in comparison to her two previous novels svsss and mdzs, you can feel like it might lack the spice in canon.
@@asiavedou876 maybe, but there's a little spicy here and there, it's not a sex scene, but mxtx lets us know the details of their sex life lol also, after i finished 2ha, it had several chapters with a lot of smut, but i didn't feel like running out to read it, i was just absorbing how good 2ha was, and i felt the same with tgcf, so that's why for me (personally) i didn't feel that lack of spicy was a problem
@@witcherye agreed. I feel like not every one of them needs a spicy scene. Especially in the midst of all that chaotic, emotional stuff, it would be a bit eh if the author just threw in a spicy scene. Although I agree, the fandom makes plenty of stories/one-shots to feed us lmao
@@imtrappedinsangwoosbasemen246 i very much agree with you. the author only put in a few sexy scenes and nsfw conversations that matched much more with the dramatic/comedy tone of the story
I think the reason why Hua Cheng isn't fleshed out is because he literal ly isn't flesh. He's a ghost, a manifestation of his desire and obsession, something he can't let go of which is Xie Lian. So I kinda get that his whole personality revolves around XieLian because he literally lives for him.
I mean Xie Lian is the only reason he manifested as a ghost at all, if it wasn't for his love for him, he would have probably passed on. So yeah, it makes sense that his entire reason for being is wrapped up in his love for Xie Lian.
this still cracks me up Lingwen: *describes Huacheng as a very powerful and dangerous ghost king who defeated 33 Gods and burned their temples. tells Xielian to stay away from him* Xielian: ... but his silver butterflies are cute 🥺
I read the novel... Complete... Its a very good novel... All of it character got a theme about life... The development of the character of the trash god, xie lian is very touching... Once an arrogant man with so much idealism, then he realized that he cannot achieved his dream, then struggle with suffering, try to make a peace with suffering, and with his last ascend he become completely wise The perseverance of huaceng, waiting for his love and always support xie lian no matter what... Also so many numerous character that got their own story of wisdom... Such a beautiful writing
I found my favorite quote in this story. The one Hua Cheng says to Xie Lian. "The one standing in infinite glory is you. The one fallen from grace is also you. What matters is *you* and not the state of you."
This is my favorite quote too! ♡♡♡ What I love the most about it though is that Xie Lian is the one who says it first! And then Hua Cheng reminds it to him after their confession, so it's a very sweet touch, because it's like Hua Cheng is reminding Xie Lian that he also deserves to be loved (/u\)
What I really liked about Hua Cheng's love was that he was there to support Xie Lian with what he needed but not to save him. A lot of BL or even slash fanfiction has the ML rushing in the save our main characters in a white knight fashion, which is good. But Hua Cheng recognizing that while Xie Lian might need help sometimes but is absolutely a capable person who can handle their own issues I freaking LOVED THAT.
That's what I like about MXTX's characters writing. Her kind of romance scene is abt two characters developing and get to know more abt each other, which is healthy example of how we should approach our relationship
It's unique in that it was the uke whose character arc was independent, while the seme's character arc was entirely dependent on the uke. (I personally don't care for a lot of the top/bottom stereotypes, but the fandom does a lot). In that way it broke some "rules". Also when you think about it, there's a huge difference in screen time for Hua Cheng and Xie Lian's character building and development, with the latter being a lot more detailed. Has to do with the fact that Xie Lian's development practically embodied the central theme of the entire book.
Not gonna lie, I could write a whole essay on Xie Lian being the perfect main character, not because he's always in the spotlight, but because of all the things he goes through. When we first meet him we may think of him as such a perfect guy who may seem like a Mary Sue (or whatever the term for a man is), but in reality he went through so much, he hated, he acted on spite, he did many bad things, only to go back to being good. He's without a doubt one of my favorite characters of all media.
@@murasaki-cha101 *SPOILERS FOR BOOK 4 AND 5* *IF YOU HAVE THE PHYSICAL COPY THIS IS STILL SPOILERS* Knowing that Jun Wu is White No-Face + the whole land of the tender thing I think the sword was probably going to be used in order to kind of ruin how Xie Lian's followers see him, because his cultivation path calls for abstinence from sex
It cracked me up so much, especially with the way it was put into contrast with MQ’s and FX’s reactions. It was also funny since he was portrayed as future antagonist in the beginning and was very suspicious of XL’s and HC’s good relationship, but just became an amused bro watching their antics from the sidelines, and it happened so naturally with the flow. Cracks me up every time. And shout out to QZ’s “?”
13:00 exactly!! Ling Wen was telling him how he defeated 33 heaven official's and how much of a bad person Hua Cheng is and Xei Lian is like " but his butterflies are cute ". And when he said that, I died of happiness 😭
yes, you explain things in simple way. priest is the one who's gonna suck all your brain juice because of absorbing the plot while meatbun is the one who will make you emotionally drain because of the angst. i'm not even exaggerating
"I think they made me fall in love with the idea of loving" So so true. I never considered myself to be a romantic, and I think of myself to be uninterested in the romance genre with only a few exceptions, but after Hualian I realized that it seems I love romance after all. Romance that is actually good that is. Now instead of "i dont like romance except for these rare exceptions," I think "Romance is great if written well!" And sometimes I sigh and imagine what it would be like to have a person I can trust and love, though I also try to keep my head in reality that the world isn't perfect
YESSSS, so true!! They also made me fall in love with the idea of romance and helped me to believe that that was something I could even have myself!! Lo and behold, I did end up finding my amazing Hua Cheng and realised that there are some truly phenomenal people in this world... I wish you luck in also finding that special person for you, it's so much more wonderful than I could have thought! Find someone who is kind, caring and compassionate, who does their best to understand you and support you through everything - and don't settle for less haha!! (My key tip is always communication with your partner!) It may take some time, but people like that are truly out there! Our love for Hualian is one of the reasons we grew so close, and the reason that I was even open to romance in the first place - they have such an incredible story and love, that is somehow so infectious and encompassing... they truly did invent love, to me at least! Haha, sorry for the ramble but I related to what you said and wanted to give you hope that wonderful people like that do exist! Good luck out there! ✨✨
@@phoenixxrider You made me a bit teary-eyed, I'm so happy you found your special person! And thank you for your kind words, here's to hoping I find my special person too
One thing about TGCF is that Hua Cheng makes it bearable to me. Just his presence is so warming and comforting, not only to Xie Lian, but also to us as readers. I tried to imagine what it would be like reading this story if it was just Xie Lian and as much as I love him, the level of pain would probably break me completely. It's kind of different to MDZS in that way. I think WWX is himself a little grounding with how playful he is. Oh, one more thing that popped into my mind is- imagine reading SVSSS from LBH perspective. The pure dread I feel imagining that storyline without SQQ's banter with the System is- 😱
I would recommend Omniscent Reader. It is a fantasy action Korean webnovel and manhwa. It is not a BL but the fandom's most popular ship is two guys and the girls are wonderfully written. Best thing is that there is no harem or romance. Just pain, despair and found family.
YESS! That would be amazing- Just a question, (and recommendation) have you read Trash of the Count's Family? It's similar to ORV but has less pain, and it focuses more on the found family and comedy aspects, but still has quite a lot of action and an absolutely mind-blowing plot. The protagonist is similar to Dokja too, with being self-sacrificial, dense, all-knowing, smart and strategic. (he's better than Dokja with the sacrificing themselves business, though, but that's just in my opinion) There's also a lot of misunderstandings in this novel, though, but they're more comedic than dramatic.
Everytime someone asks me what kind of romance tgcf is, I always say that it's a romance about a man who once had everything, lose everything. And relearning to gain his confidence and re-love himself through the efforts of another man who had never once loved himself. The romance between these two is one of pure dedication, trust and commitment. Let's be real here, Hua Cheng is such a golden finger, he could have solved everything for Xie Lian right from the get-go but he only helped when Xie Lian asked him to help or when Xie Lian was in any danger. Because Hua Cheng trusts Xie Lian, and he was content with just being in each others company. And Xie Lian needed someone who stood by him, relied, and trusted his judgement even when the rest of the world saw him as a trash collecting fool. The line, "I pray to never rest in peace." Is still such a raw line that absolutely moves me to tears every time I hear it, even after how many months it's been since I've finished the novel. This book is just simply amazing, and I pity people who turn the book away simply because they don't want to read a romance between two guys. This novel is so much more than that.
"A romance about a man who once had everything, lose everything. And relearning to gain his confidence and re-love himself through the efforts of another man who had never once loved himself." Wow. Simply wow.
the way i legit just added this series to my watchlist not even 2 hours ago and now coley’s making a video about it 😳 the world works in mysterious ways…
The fact that you've warned us about the rabbit hole and still, many others are jumping without hesitation truly is a frightening power. Edit: I'm currently reading the Manhua, and already fell in love. Shit.
I 𝙬𝙤𝙪𝙡𝙙 binge the whole manhua but bilibilli, at least the app version I'm using, has that 5 tier wait system where it goes Tier 1: Wait 1 minute to read next chapter Tier 2: Wait 1 hour to read next chapter Tier 3: Wait 6 hours to read next chapter Tier 4: Wait 12 hours to read next chapter Tier 5: Wait 24 hours to read next chapter And after tier 5 it just restarts back to tier 1 😭
When you start explaining how Xie Lian didn't deserve what happened to him and all that stuff about his character just made me more aware of how similar he and Wei Wuxian really is... they just want to do everything that they can to help, but along the way they tend to forget that they are not the only ones responsible for everything... my boys just need a hug!! I'm just glad their husbands are there for them
Haven't finished the first book yet, but the reason I love it is: 1. OMG HAVE YOU SEEN THE ART ITS GOREGOUS 2. Why are all the guys so hot...? 3. It's friggin hilarious. Especially the whole Xie Lian dressing up as a bride bit edit me, almost a year later: *ah, how little I knew*
Same thing here! I watched the first season of TGCF on netflix but I'm still waiting before reading all the books because I know I'm going to get obsessed and it's hard for me to hyperfocus on two fandoms at the same time. I'm still not over MDZS, but once my obsession with it tones down a bit, tgcf here I come~
@@heretowatch2672 i very much not regret waiting for the entire english translation to come out. here i am, with my two books, waiting for the next ones while screaming into the void
So I was already obsessed with the Donghua and characters before this...but why did I pause the video and IMMEDIATELY purchase the novel on Amazon as soon as you said English translation. I have no self control. 😭 The cosplay is amazing btw.
@@mikari56 I definitely understand, I honestly spent the money impulsively so I'll have to wait a bit for the rest. Hopefully you're able to get them soon as well.
I feel overly un lazy so I’m gonna go find a book store to buy it because I need to make sure the spine isn’t cracked it’s not smushed and it’s in good shape because I will be framing it 🥰
Mxtx's protagonists have a theme where despite their efforts to be good, circumstances forces their hand and unlike anime they can't friendship no justsu out of it. Things get worse, sometimes you lose yourself everything will not go right just because you want it to. But both of them still hold on to their morals and their humanity. Which is so real. The best people get hurt the worst.
FUCKING HELL YES!!!! This book has had a chokehold on me for a year and it literally my favorite piece of media ever ;-; Seeing more people fall in love with it just makes me so happy
Agreed, Heaven's Official Blessing is incredible! I really hope Chinese media will receive more recognition like the Japanese and Korean ones are, since there's just so many incredible stories to uncover and check out! What did you think about Mo Dao Zu Shi btw? (if you've read/watched it that is)
@@Kalakeiko I’ve liked what I’ve read of MDZS so far. I only got through the chapters where Wei Wuxian reveals that he’s alive before the novels got licensed officially. I already am pretty spoiled on what happens in the end tho, but I hope to actually read it once all the English copies come out
mo xiang tong xiu's works have a very strong theme centered on good vs. evil and the significance of those ideas and how humanity has its major flaws. like i don't think i have come across a single character in mxtx's works that is a glorified saint and i think she does a stunning job of making you really understand the depth of these character's life stories (even the side characters,) while weaving in beautiful romance into the plot!
Personally, I like HOB the best out of all MXTX’s stories. 1. The story feels the most complex, like a puzzle 2. The Hualian plot 3. Hua Cheng’s devotion (the lanterns 😭) 4. I love how Hualian wasn’t sexualized. It is so refreshing! (I still haven’t finished reading the novel, but I know the overall plot.)
i agree! i think the plot is amazing and i love how it dosen't rely on the romance to carry the story, or vice versa, even though Hua Cheng is a big part of Xie Lians backstory, his lore would still be amazing and complex without our simp king. and the fact that its just a simple, loving romance whithout any smut is refreshing and at least in the danmeis i've read, quite rare lol
The lantern one makes me cry when I read the novel. Xie Lian is very unlucky guy even got mocked by other gods because of it. The lantern part is finally the time when Xie Lian is finally winning out of all gods, eventhough it's just a small contest.
Can someone help me? I'm very interested in this series and I only found out about its existence from Coley's channel. Where do I start? Do I start with the novels? Can I get them in Australia? Can someone help me out please? I'm very confused and I want to get into this amazing series.
@@katiemartin487 yes i would start with the novel because it can be kinda confusing to start with the animation (donghua) first. There is also a manhua & a 12 episodes animation (s2 comes out this year) I think the first two books are currently available on amazon. I hope you can get them If you do, have fun reading it !!!
I don't think Hualian love is unrealistic tbh. Whether or not something is unrealistic depends solely on ourselves. To me, loving someone to that extent is very realistic, but it's just the problem of finding the other half who can return it that seems difficult :'^)
If it makes you feel better, I was quite like Xie Lian in the way that I too didn't really even consider love... I did, however, eventually find my wonderful Hua Cheng who taught me what love was and taught me to also love myself haha! She taught me that I can rely on other people and not have to shoulder the burden of everything myself, and has shown such a genuine and astounding degree of pure understanding and support, love and compassion that I didn't think to be possible!! A big reason as to how we got together in the first place was actually our love for Heaven Official's Blessing and Hualian, it kind of brought us together and funnily enough I'd say that those are the characters we are both most similar to (including the exact cannonicle height difference lol)! Sooooo yeah haha, I'm not much of a romantic, and I think it's still true that that kind of love and devotion can only be a wonderful fantasy, we are all simply human... but I can say that you can get pretty flipping close!! So good luck out there haha ✨✨
People might see Hua Cheng's love is overbearing, but I agree with you. Prince Xie Lian was the only person who's kind to him when everybody believes him for being an orphan who brings misfortunes. Hua Cheng repays Xie Lian's kindness and it's noble and realistic
i read tgcf early last year and let me tell you that i am still obsessed with it. xie lian is my favorite protagonist hands down no debate. he's so perfect and yet so flawed, so nice and yet he's been selfish before, so realistic and yet an idealist with some things and a pessimist in others. he's such a nuanced character that you just kinda love him.
just wanna say, after watching this I went to find the donghua on Netflix and finished it today and cOLEY IM ✨SOBBING✨ I AM ✨WRECKED✨ THEY PUSHED THE CENSORSHIP SO MUCH MORE THAN I EXPECTED AND I AM ABSOLUTELY CRYING IN LOVE WITH THIS SHOW RN. after camping out in mdzs hell for close to two years now, the official translations being released finally gave me the push i needed to pick up tgcf and i'm OBSESSED, who would've thought. So this video coming out now? perfect timing
i'm only now reading her first series, svsss, i read mdzs first then tgcf.... those 2 killed me i cannot deal i've been lost in this fandom for almost 3 years now and cant climb out, i also took a break to read tian ya ke/watch the word of honor and it literally has a strangle hold on me
Oh, interesting take on the villian in the story. I've heard it where Xie Lian's goal is to stay the same, and the villian tries his best to force Xie Lian to change. But Hua Cheng is Xie Lian's eternity, Xie Lian's answer, and that's all XL needs.
I love your passion about the book! As a Chinese person I was lucky enough to read the original novel when it first came out on the internet (Jinjiang) chapter by chapter, and it has been my favourite one of all time! I read it many times and still get amazed by the depth and complexity of the story and characters. I’m so happy that it’s translated into English officially and more people are getting into it!
My mom was somehow the person to introduce this to me, she made a massive mistake. This series is taking over my life and I don’t know what to do. I’ve rewatched the donghua at least four times, reread the English novels at least five times while waiting for new ones to be released (I don’t know how to find fan translations), and have reread the manhua twice. I want to be Hua Cheng so fucking bad. I’m aromantic too, I don’t know why I’m so invested in this romance when romantic feelings in real life disgust me.
*handshake* *handshake* *handshake* Im aroace and still this is *everythingggg* you cant read hualian and not both be immediately in love with both of them and their love and also a lil bit jelly of them, even if u dont experience romantic attraction lmaoooo
I read the novel almost 2 years ago and I thought I was finally being normal about it... then I saw two (2) beefleaf fanarts and now I'm devouring all the fix-it fics I can get my hands on.. I've come to accept that tgcf will always have me in a chokehold
Hearing you talk about the blackwater arc is making me also wanna talk about it, like I just wanna grab someone and drunkenly pour out my feelings on the poor soul I just happened to capture.
I have been toeing this rabbit hole for 2 months now. I know that the moment I step in I won't be found. YET, seeing you review it, I am more interested than I have ever been
Same. I've been circling the MXTX drain ever since The Untamed/MDZS nearly killed me a year ago. I know the consequences of starting Heaven's Official Blessing, and it scares me. It's like a dang siren.
I had been in the mdzs rabbit hole since 2018, and after deciding to toe the waters of tgcf... I finished it in less than a week and have hit up every other media form it exists in

I also recently got into TGCF, and I was telling my friend about why I liked it so much, and I was just like, "they're a battle couple, and soulmates, and there's so much mutual pining! Also, the Vibes!" And really? The Vibes are immaculate.
OMG I JUST GOT INTO TGCF THIS PAST WEEKEND!! I've been in the MDZS rabbit hole for a little over a year and I've been in the same shoes of "oh god I know if I get into other ones that I will never see the light of day again." I know I’m so late for this video but I’m at the very beginning of my tgcf obsessed - watched tgcf in December , rewatched another 3 times, got some merch obsession died down a bit... I was sick in may so I decided to rewatch tgcf now it’s the start of june and I’ve ordered 4 volumes and have created 6 art pieces of tgcf in this past week 😭
When I saw the title of this video, my brain automatically assumed this was a Kictor video and I was just like, "Yeah. We know. 😆" But then I realized it was you (the one who dragged me into this fandom in the first place!) and girl... I have never squealed so hard and loud. Finally, both of my favorite fandom youtubers are on the same page. This world truly is a blessing. TvT

JUST READ THAT PART 2 DAYS AGO!! It's amazing, and got my partner slightly interested lol (Context: they've been refusing to read out of playful "spite")

Not gonna lie but Book 3 is is my favorite arc overall. And also what made me stay in the mxtx fandom is that everyone is kind and there's no argument.
Your initial reaction was me, when I was reading the manhua of mdzs for the first time and realized the reason and way Wei wuxian REALLY died for the first time and had to tell the WHOLE story to my mom because I was confined at home and had no one to actually vent it to expect my mom, and so after a good...3 hours of explaining, yelling and almost crying to her, she was just so so SO tired and done with me she didn't let me talk about any series, movies or books to her for a good two/three weeks
