help me grow tomato plants, I am growing tomato plants for the first time this year and im not sure if i am doing something wrong. I am trying to improve my tomato plant frame by making it wider to give the plants more space for sunlight, im wondering can you improve tomato plant growth like this and will i grow better tomatoes. i am hoping that this will make the tomato plant produce more tomatoes so i can harvest them soon.
im not sure what verity of tomato plant this it i cant remember but i think it maybe a cherry tomato plant. ?
if you have any tips please leave them in the comments as i am new to vegetable gardening and GYO food. this is where i am atm from growing tomatoes from seed, i am yet to actually have anything i can pick and eat haha.

you need to pinch out the extra sprouts from where the leaf joins the stem , on the bigger type tomatoes the smaller bush type you can leave alone. force the plant to produce less leafs and put more energy into producing tomatoes . look online for examples

Ashes. If you have a fireplace or know someone who does, put in ashes. It adds what the plants need to flower. Nitrogen makes them grow green and long, this can come from grass clippings. Banana peels increase roots. I was playing around with this and ended up with tomato plants that were more than 12 feet long and full of more tomatoes than we could eat. Sadly, I gave then too much banana peel and could barely pull them out when winter hit.

i actually do have a fireplace and only burn dried hardwood so i could try this, i was actually wondering if i could use all the ash for something in the garden as i thought i had read that its good for plants but i was unsure so at the moment just put it all in a metal bin and saved it till i knew.

i also have a large fish tank that i only use tap conditioner in and i have large amounts of water at water changes that i use on ornamental plants the water has normally - ammonia 0, nitrite 0 and nitrate 20-30 ppm ish i was wondering if it would be good for the veg plants but i don't know if its safe to consume the veg after ? same with the ash i was unsure if it would add to much of a mineral into the veg so i hadn't used it yet. do you have any thoughts on this ?

@RustyDIY It is. Disney has a huge hydroponic set up where the plants are suspended above the fish. The fish clean the roots and the plants clean the water. Rather than buying a set up for it, you could just apply the water to your plants instead of commercial fertilizer. Now, it will only give you more leaves and longer vines, but that is more surface area for potential flowers when mixed with the ashes.

wow i didnt know that, i have grown lots of plants in fish tank water and used the tank water for getting cuttings to root, tho i just didnt know it would be ok for the veg plants. i will give it a go this year and see. the tank water i use when doing water changes dose seem to have a good effect on my house plants. thanks for the tips.
