Help! My DeWalt miter saw stand won't open or close.
HELP! My Dewalt miter saw stand won't open or close! The Saw Dust Dude can help you out. I purchased my Dewalt 726 miter saw stand back in 2016. It has been a real work horse and money maker with little to no problems.
However, one day it would not close or collaspe at the end of the day. So on the job site I had to solve this problem. In this video, I focus on the cable issues that might pop up, which cables won't adjust and which cables you can adjust!
My first video on "Help! My DeWalt miter stand won't close"

Good luck and thanks for watching

Wow, spot on! I took off the black plastic cover and could see that one of the pawls (or locking tabs) was not staying unlocked after I lifted the stand, squeezed rhe release lever and started to lower the stand. About six months ago, it seemed as if turning the stand around on our inclined driveway did the trick. Tonight I looked like a dog chasing its tail spinning it around, but no luck. I'm not good controlling my anger, but luckily before I resorted to beating the snot out of it, I saw the cable adjuster, fiddled with it, and that did the trick. Apparently the cable was either never adjusted correctly, or the locking nuts were loose and didn't hold the adjustment. Got 'em locked down now. It's such a solid, portable stand, it's a shame DeWalt can't be more helpful or write better instructions. Thank you for all the great info!

Excellent video explaining potential problems with the Dewalt 726 stand. Convinced me to buy the 726 stand instead of the more expensive Bosch Gravity stand.

Yes, I already had to remove the saw to better examine the spring-loaded carriage. Initially, it wouldn't budge. The bar was not bent as far as I could tell. I purchased this stand, along with the DeWalt saw, and assembled it. I used it to install new deck boards at my home. The saw was never taken to other jobs outside the home, so it was not impacting anything that would bend it. Finished the deck last week and tried to close it ... for the first time. The cable system is useless if the carriage won't budge. Finally hit it several times with a ball peen hammer and it moved slightly. This dropped the saw to its lower level but I could not get it disengaged again to raise it up and flatten it fully. I'm bringing the saw to the town Dump today. Can't return it to Amazon since I've owned longer than 1 month. Very disappointing. Thanks for your feedback though. I'm sure your tips are helpful to others. Regards.

Same situation. Never needed to fold the stand before now, only to discover the sliding carriage won't budge. I will try to disassemble it to figure it out. Perhaps the locking tabs were badly positioned when manufactured and are jammed inside. Fingers crossed (and hopefully not about to be crushed!).

After adjusting the heck out of the cables for a couple of days...I tried the "JIM" fix. well it worked fantastic! I'm not sure how Jim reversed his cables. For me it was easier to take the one bolt that holds the lever on. easier for me to reverse the cables that way and then reattach everything. Also a Big Thanks to "The Sawdust Dude" for this channel!

Thank you for the video, and it's definitely got me thinking. After watching this videos I checked the cables and realized that the zip ties moved and took the tension off of the cable. I moved them back, and it now closes just fine so thank you

Thank you for your two videos. While my situation was not resolved with cable adjusting , your stated desire that a person dealing with this issue would continue deeper was fulfilled. I did and my situation was resolved. Under the plastic cover on the extension arm, the allen head bolt securing the sliding lock mechanism had to be adjusted. In order to get to the nut which is inside the extension arm I had to pull back the spring loaded tabs to remove the extension arm to gain access to the nut. I've had the DWX726 for just less than a year but it has had extensive use. It had been raised and lowered dozens of times and worked great until it didn't. Thank you for the videos... I subscribed.

Are you referring to the screw head on the metal traveler? How do you get to that bolt to loosen the screw? ITs in its own chamber

@@toddkroger I think we are talking about they same bolt head, you have to pop off the black plastic cover, that was not shown in the video, I don't keep it on my stand. It's been my experience, any thing that needs adjustment, you can reach. I hope this helps my brother. Thanks for watching

I've got this stand and I can't get it closed. I've watched all of your videos on it but I still can't get it working. In my case, the locking mechanism won't slide back. When I pull on the cable manually, it doesn't move. And when I try to slide it by grabbing it and pushing it directly, it doesn't budge. And suggestions? Is there a way to disassemble that mechanism?
@heimdell51
@heimdell51 11 месяцев назад
Thanks for your tips, but they didn’t help me. No matter how I reduce cable length to increase tension, it will never be enough. The carriage mechanism on my stand is frozen solid. Forget the cable, this carriage would slide, even nudged by a ball peen hammer and a drift punch. Is stand utterly defective or do you have suggestions as to how to fix this? Thanks Lou

Lou, the only thing that I can think of, is the bar bent at all. I had that happen one time. Take the Saw off the stand and check that bar. Good luck and let me know what you find. Thanks for watching and please Subscribe 🍀🍺

Jeff, thanks for watching. Make sure bottom bar is not bent. It has two locking positions as you lift to open. Look at the gas strut, is it ok? 9 times out of 10, The bottom locking bar is the problem. Keep me posted, would love to know the problem, and the fix so we can help others too. Hi Saw Dust Dude. I couldn’t get my new DeWalt 726 to collapse. DeWalt was absolutely no help. They told me to watch your video. SMH. I took it back to HomeDepot for a replacement. The new one has the same issue. Watching your video again, I see that pulling the black cable does not cause my mechanism to move at all. That think is fused tight. Is there a remedy for that or should I just return this one too. Thanks Dude.

Boy, I hate that you are having a difficult time with this stand. Try this, You have to lift up on the handle slightly, then hit the release trigger. Good luck 🍀

I just bought that stand and have the same issue. When I took off the black cover, it wasn't even attach. the spring was loose. I hooked it back up and played with the cable to tight it or loose it up but no go. The metal latch to open/close don't move. I'm reluctant to call Dewalt since I've ordered through amazon and the hassle to send it back by mail. Any help would be appreciated.
@apembertonfowler
@apembertonfowler Год назад
@@marcrossignol3153 The only way I got DeWalt’s attention was to contact them thru Twitter. Needless to say, they were sympathetic but no help. I ordered mine online through HomeDepot so I returned it to their store. Because HD didn’t have any stands in their store, they ordered a replacement online. However, that one was defective too. So I decided to check HD’s in my area to transact an in store replacement. My thinking was that the online factory stands may be the problem. I thought they were possibly from a different manufacturer or assembler. Luckily, there was one stand available in a 30 mile radius of my home so I returned stand number 2 there. Evidently, my hunch paid off bc the store model worked great. I could tell the difference when I first opened the box and saw how much better it was packaged from the first 2 I’d gotten online. My advice to you is to return yours to Amazon. Get your money back and purchase another one in store at Home Depot. DeWalt has a no questions asked 30 day money back guarantee. I don’t think it matters where you buy the product. And I’ve never had any problem returning products at Amazon. Just call them if you’re not sure how to return it. They’ll come to your house and pick it up, no cost to you. Either way, you should be compensated without too much hassle. Lastly, I went back and forth with DeWalt with little success. I didn’t ask for a return from them because I’d gotten such a good Holiday deal through Home Depot and I didn’t want to chance losing it by going through a DeWalt exchange. Nevertheless, I think it’s a good idea we all let DeWalt know about this problem. There are many ppl out there experiencing the same issue and we need to make our frustrations heard. Telling us to watch a RU-vid video they’re not even affiliated with or compensating the author for is just wrong. That was really disappointing. In my opinion; Sawdust Dude and DeWalt’s customers deserve better. Good luck. 🍀

All you have to do is swap the cable positions on the trigger. The 1 going to spring needs to be on the top because it has longer throw.
