I've never seen anyone use a hot air gun for leveling keys. This is a major innovation. I didn't see any damage by the heat gun to lacquer. Thanks for such a great demo!
Hey Wes, thanks for speaking to the class of Red Wing last week. I really enjoyed this PC level of work. We are working on these exact issues in woodwinds class right now. Thanks for the great content!
That is one fine looking instrument. Really strongly built (as it looks). She is a lucky lady to have what I expect is a fairly expensive instrument. Nice job Wes!
Nice! Reminds me of my decades with Music and Arts Centers. Diagnosis was a huge thing back then. It’s difficult to find “real” woodwind and brass repair specialists anymore.
Cannonball Raven big bell stone series 😍🎷 What a beauty of a horn and amazing player! The stones are beautiful Tell the owner stop beating it up!! 😂 Just kidding Great repair vid!! Keep up the good work!
I was admiring the black touch pieces on some of the keys and notice the high F side key had popped off. Horn manufacturers need to step up their glue game. This happens way too often. There are many modern glues and epoxies that would make that sort of thing virtually impossible and for only a few cents more per key.
You are quite right here - If all manufacturers would put just a touch more adhesive it would make repairs like this super easy! Thanks Wes for another awesome video!
I have a 1990 something silver Yamaha trumpet that needs a good cleaning because it hasn’t been played until recently.. Sounds airy when I play it and valves sound scratchy when pressing them down. Need another project to work on?
Hey folks, please try to do a better job of matching resonators on the pads you replace. Did you notice the 'G' pad? If you can, match pad color as well. I know, it's a Cannonball but at least match resonators. Lastly, make sure there's enough glue to support the pad. Many manufacturers are going with little glue and shims these days!
Looking for a restoration of high school Schilke MkIi trumpet. You want the job, or can you suggest someone in NC? Valve honing and cleaning is all. Why his it so hard to find help with this?
