It has an optic fiber along the wick that activates with infrared. So when u open the lighter above it, it will activate. You can open it with the tv remote as well. Just point the IF but direct to it. Hope this helps..

Aside from agreeing with the other commenters that it is infrared activated. This is very random and adorable as hell. Thank you for sharing this, it made my day

I have one of these and was trying to figure out what activates it too. That's how I ended up finding your video. 😁

It's activated by the infrared light that both the flame and the camera puts off

There is a second wick of sorts where it's activated I think it's heat activated

Have you tried moving your finger above the sensor? Maybe it's the movement of the lighter or the phone that activates it??? I am grasping at straws. And maybe the motion of the flame keeps it going? I would think the heat would kill a sensor, but that's just a guess too.

Just saw the video but I’m assuming your using and iPhone 12,13 or 14 pro due to the fact it activates with infrared and those models of iPhone have a lidar sensor that emits infrared light and the camera sees that and it helps auto focus at an incredibly fast rate. Super interesting technology. the front of your iPhone does this as well with Face ID and that’s how it’s able to accurately detect an individual

I had something strange happen next to a cell phone. I was crocheting, and I set a few darning needles right next to my cell phone. I had my cell phone on one of those non-slip corrugated shelf liners (to keep my phone from slipping down) and had the phone leaning back a little againts a container I have my scissors, stitch markers, etc. in. A while later, I went to pick up my darning needle and noticed they were sticking to each other, tip to tip. I then thought O saw the bottom needle moving, oscilating, spinning. I had my magnifying lamp right in front of me, and I looked at the needles up close. I saw the bottom needle spinning super fast for 5 or 6 seconds and then stopping on a dime, then rotating the other direction at a slower speed. I could tell how fast it was moving because the eye of the needle was flat and noticeable when being turned. It went on like thos for 30 min. Then, I noticed that it started to slow down. I set the needles back next to the phone for 5 or so min, picked up the needled, with one dangling tip to tip, and it started again. I also noticed the led lamp magnetized them some. Has anyone else ever noticed this spinning? 🤔

Do you have an iphone with a MagSafe case? All MagSafe products increase the strength of the magnetic coils built into the phone for wireless charging. So your phone is always giving off magnetic charges and MagSafe products make it even stronger (for better wireless charging). Your phone happened to magnetize the darning needles which is why the were vibrating for a bit.
