Wow. That’s an interesting concept. You’d have to weigh the benefits against the added fees, like attorney fees, property inspection, government fees etc. It might be worth it in a high demand area like London. I would proceed with some caution with this idea. I don’t know if we have this here in the US or not.

Great video! Well explained! The only thing I would add is that the rent for the share of the property you don’t own is subsidised, so it can work out cheaper than renting privately

Never, never, NEVER, buy a leasehold property. The property will not go up in value as much as one fully owned, and will also become worth less the closer to freehold lease expiration. Some freeholds last for hundreds of years, but the contract will continually squeeze more money out of you as time goes by. The unlucky owners who see the freehold expire may see a new contract with outrageous, unaffordable, terms, making your property almost worthless (un-sellable at any price). This has happened in New York recently. My home state outlawed freehold sales years ago.

I found the video informative about Property's while I am not in the market to buy I find the information interesting with the different types of ways to buy, that are different from the house buying rules in America.

its interesting that brits use "scheme" as a word for a program of sorts like "right to buy scheme", in the us the word has a negative connotation meaning shady sort of like a comspiracy

Correction: My state outlawed leaseholds (ground rent) for houses years ago.

At the end when you mentioned the drawbacks of selling the house, did you mean as a full or partial owner? Ps. Found the video overall super informative and helpful 😊

I don’t think any of the government housing that is offered for people to live in here in the US can be owned or partially owned by anyone other than the government. But I don’t know that for sure. I know we have housing that you can live in that the government helps pay some of your monthly rent (subsidized housing). Very interesting concept but like you said it can be tricky when it’s time to sell. Seems like the government always has their thumb on you.

I have 2 questions . the first question is when you can resell the house? There is any minimum period of time or any time you can sell it ? Last question is, what's the way to buy the new house with some help from the goverment ?
