2009 VW Passat Wagon 2.0 TDi - 3C5 - B7
Need advice!
I get to "unlock the door", but when I pull the door handle, nothing happens!
There is no battery in the car, since it was defective when it was parked .. Now I can not open the hood, as I can not get into the car!

Working on cars poses a danger no matter what. So be aware, and if you do not feel 100% sure of the result, rather ask others to help you or double check what you have done, before you expose yourself and others to danger!

I followed a video that shows the method of locating the release cable on a 2007 Passat. I used a screwdriver to pull down the black plastic cover that slots into the bottom of the lock, it holds the cable in position. The method worked but you won't get the plastic holder back into place without taking the lock out, I gave up trying that and removed the screws from the top of the grill and was able to move it outward enough to take the lock bolts out. Looking at the underside of the lock I could see you can't relocate the plastic holder with the lock in situ. In hind sight I traced the fault to the point where the two cables join and clip to the car body, the clips had lost their grip causing enough slack for the cable not to work. After I re clipped the cable join block back onto the car body the cable worked fine. The guy in the other video also didn't say that you will break some clips off the front badge doing it his way.

You can supply 12V on fan plug or cable then open it via remote. I have passat b7 with same problem. I opened it as i said above.

Yes this is a common vw problem and it comes from the handle cable that pulls the lock inside the door. It happens in the winter in cold countries like ours. (I'm in Iceland). I replaced the lock it self and the outer handle cable.

Thank you very much for the information. Yes we have cold winters, and this year, we have had a lot of changes up and down in temperature, which causes doors and locks to freeze. Now I stand without the opportunity to get into the car, and struggle to find a good solution for the hood as well. Any good ideas on and get it up? Regards Pål

@@bildillamagasin ah is the battery dead also. Well if there is not a key hole in the passenger door I have sometimes found that with heat the lock system will loosen itself. My wife often has to hold the door closed while she locks the central locking to hold the door in place since in the winter mornings the door sometimes won't even close. Then when she has been driving her passat for some time the heat from inside the car will mend the stiffness in the door. I would think that maybe a blow dryer for some heat to the door might do the trick. Best regards Davíð

If door looks won't open from the outside just hold the unlock button until all the windows go down butcar needs to havepower in its battery.

I tried that mutiple times on my passat B6 but it didn't work, had the same problem on another door and took the lock out and greased the plate that the preloader spring drags across so it's looking like I'm going to have to do the same with other door now.

Da var pansertet åpnet av en der bilen sto. Han ente opp med å løsne bolter til lukkermekanikken. Jeg skal komme tilbake med en video med mer info om dette. Bilen står ikke hjemme, så jeg får ikke vist dette akkurat nå. Hilsen Pål

Then the hood was opened by someone where the car was standing. He ended up loosening bolts for the shutter mechanism. I will come back with a video with more info on this. The car is not at home, so I can not show this right now. Regards Pål

The cable is half frozen inside and that's why it won't come off, try heating this part of the lock with a hot air dryer on the battery

Happened to mine battery went,had to put jump leads on alternator to get bit of power then it opened,

Yes, it goes well as long as you get to points where you can connect auxiliary power :)

Pop out the hidden key in your fob and manually open the lock then pull bonnet lever to open and install a new battery

Hello. Guess you haven't seen the video as I showed that I used the physical key as well.It is a typical fault on these and many other VW cars, that the plastic clip / retainer inside the door breaks. Especially in areas with cold winters. Then it is no longer possible to just use a physical key anymore, unfortunately. Greeting Pål (Paul)

Any news here 😮‍💨,today i had the same problem with my b7 Only from the outside it wont work, i entered the car from the back door and opened the front one, but front left outdoor handle is not working anymore

Hi It is very common here in Norway that the Passat doors will not be able to be opened from the outside. Seems to be more critical in winter. What seems to happen is that a plastic clip solution that holds the wire from the door handle to the door lock breaks. Sometimes it can help to hit the door hard, down where the lock is. Have heard of many people who have managed to get it to work a few times. But the solution is finally to enter the door and change the plastic clip. Regards Pål (Paul)

Hello. Unfortunately, this did not work when we got the car into the garage, and it was warmer too. But maybe the temperatures we have in Norway in winter destroy the system. Or should one say that the system is too weak for Norwegian winters? I have heard of a lot of people here, with the same problem! Greeting Pål

If you hold the unlock button on remote, your windows should roll down allowing you to unlock the car from inside.

Ouch. I had not received that function. I know my old BMW had that option. Have to check if the e-Golf has this too! The Passat was sold on, as the list of faults became far too long. Greeting Pål (Paul)

Hello. We ended up taking off the VW badge at the front, and getting to the screws that hold the bonnet lock. I think there should be some videos on other channels about exactly this. Greetings Pål

@@bildillamagasin Hello, thank you for your respond, i already try this metod but i cant find any screws, so i probably call some servise to open the car. I wanted to try all the methods first and this would be the last one (some servise). Actually what happened to me was that my electronic handbrake stopped working, so my mechanic told me to disconnect the battery, so I disconnected it and locked the car from the inside and locked the left front driver's door with the key, but then most likely the cable came loose on the driver's front door, so even though I unlock the left front door, when I pull the car handle it doesn't open at all. But thanks for the reply, I'll try to find something else on the internet, if you or anyone else can think of something, I'll be very glad for the reply. Thank you kindly Patrick
