VW Passat Door won't Unlock (how I got it opened)

VW Passat, Front passenger door wouldn't unlock, I had to remove the door trim from the inside with the door locked closed, this had unavoidable damage to the door trim since you normally would remove the trim with the door open. after removing the door trim I could get to the door latch from inside the door, then I could get to latch to unlock.
this now means I can open and shut the door from inside or outside, it may help someone out that wants to replace a faulty door latch when the door won't Unlock.

It's nice when he wants to help, sometimes when I wash my car, he puts his little red and yellow car next to mine and washes his wee car. :-)

Thank you. Worked for me. Best advice to bust the stop right out of the way. Screwdriver lifting the central locking stop just didnt work. Thanks. So happy to get the bloody door open. Great video.

Thanks for sharing this. I tried following other videos and poking bits of wire through the door, none of them worked. Guess it depends how damaged your door lock is. This worked perfectly on the back door of passat. You will wreck the lock doing it and it's a bit awkward to get screwdriver in, but it works and the door opened. Thanks.

Congrats to the hare-brained engineers at VW who came up with the ridiculous idea of making a car nearly impossible to get out of once you're inside. Clever boys, really truly clever. You really showed those VW buyers who was boss didn't you.

I am getting a lock from eBay, it's new for £20 I don't know if it's better than a used genuine VW part though.

He - he i had same piece of shit in Sweden .In winter time ,temp. below -10 i 've never could open any door ...😂

Pour hot water around the door lock mechanism, down the corner of window and down the lock pin and keep locking and unlocking. Iv opened it like this before.

Hi @MechanicMatt I have a more serios problem but similar to this On of the back doors did not open from the outside door handle, but it worked from the inside My dad was trying to fix it but he mistakenly turned the child protection screw and then closed the door. It can now be open only from the outside but the door handle doesn't work, it does nothing because it's broken for some time and we wouldn't use the door because of that Now the inside door handle doesn't work as well because of the child protection screw What should I do? Is it locked forever or is there a mechanism to jam from the inside I just painfully got out the door panel with the door closed and I don't know if I should carry on

Hi now that you have gone that far, if you can see the latch inside the door you could break off the spring part like I did so that the door will open. It won't lock after that but it will open and close. Also their is nothing wrong with knowing when to stop and leave it to someone else if you feel happier doing that.

@@mechanicmatt871 thanks for the reply In the meantime I found another fix, I entered a wire with a pick from the outside, right pass the door handle, I jiggled it in there a bit then I pulled and the devil opened. I tried this after putting the panel and everything back up, I realized that the window won't get off the regulator that easily and maybe I didn't have access to the mechanism even after breaking the window or something and I put it all back on. Anyway this child protection thing with a broken door handle was like shooting yourself in the foot. The door now opens from the inside like before. I'm trying to fix the outside handle tomorrow, fun day today but short for ugly things like this. Cheers
