These tips really work! My June baby hasn’t shown interest in rolling for weeks, then within about a couple weeks of practicing Tip 1 with her, she started to roll from back to belly - today, at 4.5 months! I could tell she enjoyed this exercise too, she would smile and start working her muscles every time we got into position as if she knows ☺️ It also helped to have our high contrast images booklet propped up behind her head when laying on back as she would try to look up and roll over to see them. Your videos are so helpful - thank you!!!
My son turns 4 months old in a few days, this video definitely helps, I’ve been helping him roll over and so far he hold his head up and starts to move his hips and shoulders as if he wants to roll over but then gets very frustrated 😩
I work at a day care and my 5 month old had surprised me trying to roll from his back to his tummy thank you for this video he should master it in a few days. I’m so happy he loves tummy time i just put him on the mat and he does his thing.
Great info...My 6 month old doesn´t roll yet (but he tries) and i was wondering if floor or surface hardness has anything to do, our apartment is very small and we mostly have him on the bed or a soft futon for his excercises. Should we be placing him on the floor instead?
My baby is 5months, i saw this n tried 3 4 times on my baby today n nw she is turning by herself, in 1 day i saw ur video n i tried n shez turning, thanks alot
My real struggle is about letting the baby play on his own, where he actually learns and practices these skills independently. Everything I have read and watched kind of tells me to be engaged with the baby all the time with rolling, sitting etc. And I did it constantly I think until 3 months, but now that he is 4 months old, I have realized that the moment I leave him alone (spending time a couple of meters away), he starts to think by himself and immediately starts to roll over and try to shift the weight back to roll back. But no sources ever told me to just leave the baby to play with himself if he is happy and I still have this mom's guilt if I am even just watching him from the distance minding his own business.
Hi Mia, at this age your little one will be a lot more independent in being able to move around and hold and play with toys. So he will start to be happier to spend time lying on the floor exploring. It is exhausting interacting with a baby all day and honestly it isn't something they need - sometimes they would prefer to play with toys then interact with you. That is fine. So enjoy those moments of watching him from a distance without any guilt!
@@EmmaHubbard Thank you for the reassuring words and also for the content. I have used the guidelines in your videos for helping to roll from stomach to back. But now I try to help him if he needs me and lets me know and the other times when he is playing by himself he sometimes remembers the moves which we did together and tries to mimic it by himself. Which, I realized, is also the progress he needs to go through - to process the steps by himself and let the little one learn his own body and movements :)
M’y baby started doing it by himself at 4 months. First time I was scared then I learned it was part of his development.. but I remember doing all this may it helped him without me knowing
I was playing "roly poly" with my 3.5 month old yesterday and she loved it ... for a little while 😅 I've been doing your tips since she was 2 months 1 week old. She's not rolling yet, although she's done it a few times on her own, but she's strong now and all she wants to do is sit up or stand. She literally does these crunches and holds for like 15-20 seconds trying to get herself up 😂 I'm like WHERE ARE YOU GOING TO???? 🤣🤣
@@Nowordscameout it gets funnier when they're on the verge of rolling 😂😂 Mine's 5 months today and she's still doing it, sometimes face planting into the bed while shes at it 😭😭🤣
Great videos!!! I had triplets 3 months premature and they are 9 1/2 months and 6 months corrected. One of them has fully rolled from back to tummy 1 time but hasn’t since because her arm keeps getting in the way.. how can I help her?
My baby is 3 weeks old and already started to try rolling. She is happy when she has tummy time and lifts up the head by herself for 2 minutes. I am not sure if I should teach her rolling this early.
My baby started to roll over at 4 months, I noticed his right arm is stronger than his left arm though, he is extending his right arm more than the left.
Thank u very much for the tips. I watched your video and did the same thing. My baby is 4 months old now and after watching your video in just 10 days she has started rolling😍😍😍
What about techniques to roll from their tummy to their back? My boy went back to tummy easily but is having a hard time figuring out how to get back to his back.
I'm sure your baby has done the roll by know but I taught my son at 7 months and he learnt how to go from his stomach to his back first. I had to show him a few times and he got it! It was sooo cute I could see him thinking about it. I would get his left arm and put it down on a slight angle to the right, then I would press his head down onto his arm and that would allow free movement onto his back. He was frustrated the first few days but he kept trying. By about the 5th day he picked up the pattern and all I would have to do is press his head down and he would turn. then after that he realised he didn't need to do that anymore and he would do it on his own. Now he's an expert. He then used the strategy to turn to the opposite side without me showing him.
Thanks so much for this! my baby is almost 4 months and started rolling. he hasnt grasped to fully roll to his tummy so he spins around in a lil circle. lol but I helped him today to complete the roll ;)
Thank you for explaining the natural progression of how a baby learns to roll! I am a first time mom with a 3 month old and I was wondering how & when he may learn this skill.
Sama seperti saya .. i was wonder, anak teman saya sudah bisa tengkurap sendiri di usia 3month .. sementara anak saya 4month belum bisa .. thanks alot Miss
Hi I m in Australia also,I see you’re Australian. I’m having a lot of trouble with my 9.5 month old baby boy that I am currently sleep training. He had started to roll onto his tummy in his cot, but his arm gets stuck along side him and he can’t go back over to his back. He seems to be doing it ok on the floor but not in his cot and this is making him very frustrated especially when he wakes up. During a nap. What can I do apart from more floor time which I am doing now 😩
My baby is 5.5 months old born at 38 weeks but is not at all interested in rolling, she is not even lifting her shoulders as you have shown . I haven’t given her much of tummy time as she always wanted to be held and I was all the time holding her. I have been practicing what you have shown but she cries so much , please tell me should I be concerned?
I recently discovered your channel and I just fell in love with your videos! You have so many important topics you cover and you do it so thoroughly, thank you so much! I recommended on your channel in my mom group on Facebook🤩
Son starting rolling over at 2 months but it seems to be by accident and scares him lol but started to help him through it and seems to be enjoying now!
@Emma Hubbard Hii..My baby is 3 months old how can i increase her tummy time..When we are giving tummy time she won't be able to in that postion for atleast 5 mins ...Can you suggest some tips
My baby already puts himself in side lying at 3 months ,but I didn't know you could assist them rolling, so next time he does that I will definitely try it.n
Maybe my baby is stubborn but she doesn't like tummy time unless it's on my chest and cries when I try to help her roll. She starts eating her hands or whatever I have her on. Once we stop our practice, cuz she's crying. She goes back to happy baby. Any advice?
Hi Emma. I tried these tips but my baby is not rolling over yet. He is 5 5 months old. I am trying assisting Roll over from past 2 months and no help. He doesn't like tummy time and for whole day it will be 15 mins. When I place toy on his side, he is not interested. Please help
This is great. My 6 month old loves rolling from belly to back but suuuuuper uninterested in rolling to his belly lol. Going to stick with it and keep practicing with him!
I’m not trying to rush anything with my daughter but what if my daughter’s doing the first 3 already at a month? I just wanna help her if she’s ready to do all that
My baby is 4months now and I recently put her on tummy time and she tries to turn over but she only Swerves side to side and then she get upset and cries and puts her head down and cries do I need to let her cry. For how long tummy time and how many times a day.because she more comfortable doing tummy time on the bed.she doesn't cry as much.what do you recommend?
I did this with my daughter she learned to roll within the week of starting it. Trying with my son I’ve been trying for weeks and I just can’t get him to track a toy further then his shoulder if I move it further to get him to look further up and around hoping he’ll lift a shoulder he won’t do it. I’ve increased belly time and reaching for toys to get the strength up but he just doesn’t seem to care. What can I do?>.
I've been practicing rolling over with my daughter since she was about a month and she just turned 3 months and has been rolling over like crazy so what she's saying really does work.!!!!
Literally just tried this with my 4 month old as I came across this video and it helped . As my baby is side rolling then gets stuck so I know how to safely encourage her over
I love ur videos so much .. it help me.so much as I am a first time mom.. Just 1 suggestions the subtitles actually prevents us to see the actual baby position you try us to show.. u can check on time 4.07
Hi. My baby 3 months old & she loves to roll over now but including after breastfeeding session. So once she is in tummy time position she will vomit. Should i still encourage her or stop her attempt to roll over until 1 hour after breastfeed so that she didnt vomit?
My little one is almost 6 months, she’s been rolling from belly to back since two months and we have tried and tried to get her to roll the other way but she has no desire! She’s been sitting for close to a month independently and when in her tummy will push onto straight arms and interact with toys. I have done all of these tips for probably a few months and she can roll with perfect form if I guide her, but just won’t do it independently. We’ve tried toys, wedges, mirror, phone, and she will actually fight against the roll if she’s not in the mood, knees to her chest arms pushing hard back, tucking her head, etc. I’m at a loss in what else to do to help her. We have to use lots of distraction to keep her in tummy time as well or she will just roll over. We practice every wake window and she sleeps side lying almost all the time ( gets herself there). Any tips??
Thank YOU for information I have 5 months old baby she use to roll on her side almost on tummy when she was 2 months at 3 months she drooling a lot and wants to be hold all time she is awake now she is not rolling over even when I try to help she refused and thighs her muscles what should I do
Hi Enma, thanks for your videos. My 3 months old baby doesn’t feed while awake, he feels very less hungry, he can wait for 4 hours with just 30 ml milk. We are putting him to sleep every time before feed as his weight is not growing as per expected instead of leaving him to ask for feed. we are unable to understand what needs to be done. Any suggestions?
My babe is 6 months and doesn’t even try to roll. He gets up on hands and knees, rocks and scoots backwards, but hates being on his sides! When I move his legs to help him roll, he resists with his upper body. Is there something wrong? He loves tummy time and is pretty strong.
My little dude is 2 months and is already trying to roll over. He’ll, he’s trying to crawl… i’ll be not very good but it’s impressive how much he scoots himself forward
My baby can roll over at 2 months old. Whenever she lay down, she always roll over and not only doing that but also manage to position his hand as well. Just confuse why it’s happening so fast…
I am in awe. I’ve been doing the rolling practices with my son and he learned to roll from back to tummy at 3 months and tummy to back at 4 months. He is now rolling both ways! Thanks for the tips!!
My baby is gonna be 6 months and no rolling at all :( I just found this video and I’m gonna try it out not sure if my baby can’t roll cause she’s chunky, is that possible? Help
mine's got chunky thighs and only occasionally rolls over but not necessarily at will. Sometimes she struggles. I think every baby develops and ages at different rates, not an issue for concern unless doctors have diagnosed it with motor related issues. Honestly, this was never a thing 15-20 years ago, especially when we were babies. Now baby developmental milestones are trending or quick reference check offs to indicate baby is developing on track compare to other babies, but it has no consistent correlation to babies health or intelligence. I spend much time reading and speaking to my baby more than she gets on the tummy. Which ever activity she engages with better.
My LO can proficiently roll from her back to tummy, but struggles with the other way. Do you have any recommendations? This issue causes sleep disruptions as she doesn’t know how to roll to her back to sleep comfortably.
My nearly 6 month old is great at rolling from her back to her tummy but is still struggling to roll back from her tummy to her back. Any suggestions? Thank you!
My baby is 4 months now. She started rolling from her tummy to her back at 2 and a half months. Did it about 20ish time but now doesn’t seem to remember how to or doesn’t want to at 4 months
Hi! Rolling onto her side at 3 months to hat we would be expecting in regards to her development. At the beginning of this video I show how you can assist them to roll from their back to their tummy. If she is rolling to her side I would continue to let her do that movement and then apply slight Pressure at her hip to assist her to roll the rest of the way.
Thank you❤ I followed your tips and our baby is rolling back to tummy and tummy to back at 4 months. Following your suggestions for supported sitting and walking also. Your contents has been really helpful and this is the only channel I watch for any doubts on baby development. Great work🤩
Wow, great content, this is exactly what I was looking for! Thanks for amazing advice, and the parts of the video where you demonstrate the moves on actual babies are extra helpful 👍
Hi, we have 13 month baby and he is unable to seat yet. Also not able to do rolling...he have problem with kneck control as well. As per doctor he is having development delay. We are taking physiotherapy and we can see some improvement. Could you please suggest, we will be really thankful if you assist us. Thanks.
my baby is about to turn 5 months and needs assistance. she used to roll when she was younger but she stopped so now i’m trying to encourage her. how was it? and how often did you encourage her? and how long did it take?
@@jae6950 we demonstrated how to roll in front of our son then we helped bending his leg to side position. Even so, he was really not interested. But we always let him on his tummy. Now he is 8 months old and suddenly he is happily rolling front and back. I think it's a matter of time. Really 😅
HI @Amber Hurst it's awesome your little one has mastered rolling from his back to tummy. Here is a video on how you can help your little one roll from tummy to back: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-H9O0cPh2bsM.html Hope it helps!
Do you have tips on how to teach them from tummy to back? My 3 month old started rolling onto her tummy almost every single time we put her down on her back and she haaaaates it! We’re working on making tummy time more fun but she’ll do it at night time and wake us up screaming cause she’s on her tummy. Sometimes she’ll sleep through which also makes me nervous and wondering how stressed should I be that she does this? Is it ok that she sleeps on her tummy if she puts herself that way even though she’s so young??? I’m having trouble sleeping being up so worried about her rolling over in the middle of the night. She sleeps right next to me in her crib so I’ve been told not to worry but she’s only 3 months 😬
Hi Jessenia to teach her to roll from her tummy to her back you can see if shaking/moving a toy from the middle of her body- so directly in front of her face- and moving it to the side. Once the toy is out of her line of sight she might accidentally roll onto her side and then back (as gravity makes her tip over). Also when she is on her tummy you can straighten on arm directly in front her head and then help her roll over onto her back. In regards to sleep : now that she is rolling onto her tummy after you put her in bed on her back, you will need to make sure her arms are no longer inside a sleeping bag. This will ensure when she rolls over she is able to use her arms to push up on and move her head to the side. Generally the recommendation is that if the baby rolls from their back onto their tummy while they are sleeping and you know they have the strength to repositioning their head and move it to the side , then there is no need to roll them back onto their back. Just make sure there are no soft items in the bed (eg. toys, cot bumpers/rail protectors, pillow, loose blankets etc). Also the mattress should be firm.
@@EmmaHubbard thank you for replying! We’ll work on the maneuver with the toy to get her to roll over on her back. She no longer sleeps swaddled. As soon as she rolled over onto her tummy once I knew I’d never feel safe if we kept swaddling her so I ditched immediately and went to a sleep sack. It was a rough week of sleep but she finally got used to it and stopped being so startled awake by her arms. But instead of being startled she’ll usually tighten her tummy and roll right over instead. She’s absolutely able to use her arms to lift her head but she still sometimes likes to bury her face in the mattress which stresses me out so bad. But we don’t leave anything else in her crib and she’s on a firm mattress so I guess that’s all I can do besides laying her down on her back to start the night. Anyways thanks again for the reply and the great content.
@jessenia T yep you are definitely doing all you can do. I would try not to stress because you have limited all the risks you can. Just continue putting her to bed on her back and using the sleep sack.
This is what I need as my baby keep rolling to his tummy while sleeping and cry..I'll practise your tips tomorrow or as soon as he get better coz LO got cold..Love your tips and the fact you answer the question..I am gonna subscribe now
My 1 month old could roll over to his side but today while changing his diaper I pushed his bum to the side and he rolled over on his tummy I have been trying to encourage him to do it again
My son is 6 months old. He can sit up, passes things from hand to hand, and can roll from his tummy to his back but he has yet to roll from his back to tummy..
I am in tamilnadu... My baby 3 months completed.. she shaking her head side to side is it normal mam? What is the reason mam .. and please help me how to stop this movement please reply me mam I am waiting for your valuable reply mam please help me mam
Hi @Raji Roja if she is shaking her head when you are holding her in your arms (like a head bobble) that is not that unusual because it is hard and tiring for them to hold their head up. Unfortunately, because I can't see her I can't tell you exactly what the reason is.
Great video! I'm happy to see I've been doing it right 🙂 My daughter used to roll from her front to her back aaaall the time but when she turned 3 months she stopped. I guess her balance changed then. We're doing lots of tummy time and encouraging her to roll from both her front and her back.
My daughter started rolling over from belly to back before she was a month. I wanted her to learn so she couldn't get in that position in her sleep and not be able to get out. They stop being able to for a period of time because of the weight of their head ..they can no longer roll their body weight
I hope this isn't a dumb question, but is two blankies enough on a tiled floor? because my babies movement is probably limited because of the tiled floor, so how can I safely play with him. On the floor.
Emma, can you also pls make a video on how to transition baby out of swaddle ? My baby is almost 4 months and she is starting to roll half the way to her tummy. I think she will start rolling very soon. We have been using the regular swaddle till now but wondering what other swaddle to try since there are so many options out there!
Hi Rash great idea. Will make one but won’t be ready in time for you. What swaddle are you using? As a parent I used love to dream swaddle which had my bub’s arms up and then for my second child I used the Halo sleeping bag. When I transitioned them with arms out I found it easier to just put both arms out at the same time - sleep is a bit rough for a few night but then it returns to usual. I feel that doing one arm at a time makes the process longer. Some sleeping bags have transition sleeping bags to make it easier for the little one.
@@EmmaHubbard thanks for replying Emma 🙂. Right now I am using a regular swaddle that has velcro in places to make it easier to swaddle the baby. I just bought love to dream swaddle with arms up to see if she would like it before I stop swaddling her arms down. Hopefully all will be well! Honestly she sleeps so well at night and takes good naps all day I am kind of keeping my fingers crossed that changing the swaddle doesn't mess it up 😆
@@mjpm507 happy to report that it only took two naps to get her used to love to dream swaddle. We were thinking of using it for the night but today she has been turning from back to tummy all day. I am thinking of buying a sleep sack that is snug around tge waist with arms free. Keeping fingers crossed she would like it. Let me know if you try anything different.🙂
@@rashn2065 Thanks for replying. I bought the love to dream transition suit but could only used it one night because the following she rolled to her tummy and I had to run to take her arms out. She is still waking up at the middle of the night getting used to the free arms and we are in the foutrh month sleep regression but each night gets better. Fingers crossed it will passed soon!
My baby is 7 months and still won’t roll herself! If I help she will roll fine.. but she hates tummy time and always cries when I try and make her roll a few times. She is a bigger baby and has a heavier head 😂 Also she does get a bit sick by being on her tummy too much. She can now just about sit up. Any tips?
Hi @Haziratul Hamidah I wouldn't be concerned. Babies can learn this skill anytime from 4 - 7 months. Every baby is different. If you are concerned always check with your doctor.
My son is 6 months old and my son hates tummy time, he just wants to suck on his thumb always, so I'm worried that I'm doing something wrong. So he can track toys well, and he stays in the side line position.
