I like the idea. My problem is that I have grapheme-color synesthesia and my brain assigns colors to the letters. C=pink, F=green, A=yellow, for example. Putting the do-re-mi in *strict* rainbow order is understandable, but *my* brain doesn't interpret it that way. I see the colors of the individual letters instead. For me, the do-re-mi would have to be in black text or white text visualized on the piano keys. Yes, I'm one of those who used to complain to the 4th grade music teacher that they should use letters over the notes rather than numbers, not only because the notes are referred to by letters, but because the colors of the numbers don't match those of the letters! (Teacher looked at me quizzically. I can't blame her. I never knew anything about such a thing as synesthesia until I was in my late 40s.) I have several types. When I was in 6th grade I happened to be in my brother's first grade classroom once. One wall had phonetic cards. I said the colors of the letters were wrong. Hoo boy. I have taught children's choirs, ESL, and reading. My advice to teachers is to be careful when color coding. You might just have a synesthetic student.
Thank you for sharing your experience! I would be happy to make a charge that matches colors that work for you. Let me know what colors for what solfege syllables
