you can do better by bleeding your irrigation lines by running a cycle after you cut the water as well, which is a step better than this

Why do we have to drain it? Why not leave the water dripping in each faucet?

Leaving water dripping will be crazy, thats what turns to ice, you need that area as dry as possible.

Because at those Temps a slow drip will not prevent freeze. Best to just turn off water, open all valves in the house and wait the freeze out
