[Helping Hand #46] "GOLDEN SLUMBERS" by vmpqnmy // Review 

Welcome to the new series on my channel, in which I will look at and review some overlooked or unrated levels, with the goal of helping the creators in getting them rated in the end.

For our next level we are looking at something really interesting that I got send on Discord. I really enjoyed the visuals so I wanted to give it a shoutout on the channel. It is also made by a very unknown creator with very few creator points, so it was even more worth to showcase here.
As mentioned previously, the level looked really interesting to me and I enjoyed the visuals a lot. It is presented in a very simple, neo-design style, which works really well in my opinion. I like the color scheme a lot and the little flower create really nice accents within the overall monochromatic color scheme. My favorite part has to be the ship part at 0:34 though, it looks really beatiful and I love how well everything here works together. It feels very lively with the little flickers that have been added and the colors enhance the whole part a lot again. I would have liked to see some form of slow movements though, as I think it could have given the level some more energy outside of the pulses. The ending part also felt a bit underwhelming, as it seemed like it was mainly used to get the level to a minute in length, which isn't all that necessary in my opinion. I also would have liked to see some more variety in the parts themselves. The whole level only really has two parts plus the ending, which works for sure, but can make the level feel a bit dragged out in my opinion.
The level does play really nice though. The first part is a very nice intro into the level and works really well with the song. I also like the gameplay in the ship, which uses a lot of gravity changes to make the gameplay more unique. My main problem here is that the previously mentioned ship part is a lot harder than the first half of the level, which makes the level very unbalanced and very frustrating for some. I would recommend trying to fix the balancing here to make the level as enjoyable as possible for everyone. Due to this I would also say this is an easy demon in difficulty, but one that fluctuates in difficulty a lot, depending on how skilled the player overall. Trying to make it as fair as possible for everyone should be the highest priority here.
Overall though, I will say that I really enjoyed my time with this. I like the atmosphere, enhanced by the really nice colors and little details, and the gameplay which works really well with the song and the overall vibe the level gives off. It is worth mentioning that the level uses a NONG, but I decided not to use it, because levels are judged by their Newgrounds songs anyway, which worked really well too. All that considered I would send this level for a feature, even though I do think there are some things that could be fixed, mainly the ending feeling a bit dragged out, there only being two different parts present and the gameplay being very unbalanced. The level is very nice nonetheless and I am really looking forward to the creators next projects.
