[Helping Hand #48] "UNTIED" by Hack695 // Review 

Welcome to the new series on my channel, in which I will look at and review some overlooked or unrated levels, with the goal of helping the creators in getting them rated in the end.

I recently looked into one of Hack695's levels already, it being their auto level "Dear Pet Rock" which I thought was really nice, so I was looking forward to trying other levels by them. I chose this to showcase, mainly because I liked the way the song was represented here a lot, as well as the visuals being something really interesting that I haven't shown on here for a while.
Speaking of the visuals here, the level is featuring a nice modern style with the sepia and greyscale filters being used throughout its whole runtime. This, even though I am usually not the biggest fan of monochromatic levels like this, makes the level work with the song super well in my opinion. It really creates a nice atmosphere, that is being emphasized nicely by the song. This really tight bond between visuals and song make for a really satisfying, cohesive overall product. I also think the lyrics being visible throughout the whole level isn't distracting at all here, something that can happen quite easily in my opinion. The way they have been integrated into this level is really nice though, I like the way they are being brought on screen, especially in the parts from 0:07 to 0:19. I really like the visuals in this overall, I think all the elements added work nicely together and the additions of movements and particles only enhance the already strong visuals in my opinion. The only part I wasn't too big on the short part from 0:42 to 0:44, as I think the lack of structures here look a bit weird compared to the rest of the level.
Next up is the gameplay and like the visual aspect of the level, I think the gameplay is really nicely done here. Slowing down the player here is a really strong way to represent the levels atmosphere through gameplay elements in my opinion and it works super well as a result. It makes the gameplay feel a bit awkward at points though, especially in the ship part, but due to the level being very easy, this doesn't have too much effect on the overall gameplay quality in my opinion. In general I found the gameplay to be really fair, everything was clearly visible and not confusing at all, even the parts that have a bit more going on visually. Some people have been saying that the slowed down gameplay can feel a bit boring after a while, but I couldn't really agree with it as I was playing the level honestly. Overall I really enjoyed how Hack695 was able to capture the levels vibes within the gameplay in a way that it fit really well, while also being enjoyable to play.
With all that being said, I will say that I did enjoy my time with this a lot. I think song, visuals and gameplay fit super well together and create a really nice, cohesive experience, which was also very fun to play. I understand when people make the argument that the level feels a bit boring, due to the shaders making the level uninteresting color wise or the slowed down gameplay feeling odd and boring, but I think the positive aspects of the level outshine those flaws by a lot. The way Hack695 was able to work with the limited colors and the slowed down gameplay gimmick is really nice and very clever, so I do think the level deserves a feature rating in the end. I am really looking forward to what they are bringing us next in general, as they have been improving steadily in recent times.
