Hakaniemi (known as Hagnäs in Swedish) is an area in Helsinki’s eastern city center, located north of Pitkänsilta. It lies within the Siltasaari sub-district of the Kallio neighborhood. Separated from the downtown core by Siltavuorensalmi and Hämeentie, Hakaniemi is home to the SAK headquarters, the Social Democratic Party and Left Alliance offices, and the Helsinki Workers’ House. The annual May Day workers’ march often begins at Hakaniemi Square. The area is known for Hakaniemen kauppahalli, a traditional market hall offering fresh produce, meats, bread, and other goods.
Eläintarhanlahti (in Swedish, Djurgårdsviken) is a bay located in the heart of Helsinki’s city center, specifically in the Kallio district. It connects to the open sea through Kaisaniemenlahti, Siltavuorensalmi, and Kruunuvuorenselkä. Eläintarhanlahti separates the Siltasaari and Linjojen areas. On the southern shore of the bay, along Siltasaari, you’ll find Säästöpankinranta Street, home to the Helsinki Workers’ House. The northern shore features Tokoinranta Park, with the Helsinki City Theatre just beyond it. A pedestrian and cycling path runs along the western shore, connecting Kaisaniemi Park to Kallio. The name “Eläintarhanlahti” is derived from Eläintarha Park, which originally extended east of the railway line and included the current Tokoinranta area. The bay was once part of Töölönlahti but was separated by a railway embankment built in 1862. The idea of filling in both Töölönlahti and Eläintarhanlahti for development was considered but ultimately abandoned in the 1940.
Siltasaari is a central neighborhood in Helsinki, Finland. Most of its area is also informally known as Hakaniemi. The neighborhood is situated north of Pitkänsilta (Long Bridge), and it practically covers the vicinity around Hakaniementori (Hakaniemi Square). While people often refer to the area as Hakaniemi, it’s important to note that Hakaniemi itself is not an official subdistrict12. If you’re ever in Helsinki, consider exploring Siltasaari and its vibrant surroundings! 😊
Helsingin Kaupunginteatteri (Helsinki City Theatre) is Finland’s largest and most diverse professional theater. It aims to provide unforgettable experiences and meaningful stories to its audience across its five stages1. Currently, they have some exciting productions lined up:
Moulin Rouge! The Musical: An epic adaptation of the Oscar-winning film, filled with glamour and passion. Step into the world of Moulin Rouge and let it dazzle you!
Veljeni Leijonamieli (Brother Lionheart): A magical fantasy adventure based on Astrid Lindgren’s beloved classic. It’s a tale of courage, love, and hope.
Yllätysvieras (The Unexpected Guest): A hilarious comedy that explores the consequences of excessive politeness.
Forever Young: A lively musical comedy celebrating aging and the hits of past decades.
Ilon aika (The Time of Joy): A playful and original exploration of life choices and human connections.
Silence: A dance performance inspired by classical music, bringing concert pieces to life through movement.
Kaisaniemi Botanic Garden is one of Helsinki’s most popular visitor attractions. Situated close to the city center, it offers a unique experience for nature lovers throughout the year. The garden features both outdoor areas and greenhouses. The outdoor garden is open every day from 9:00 to 20:00, and it’s free of charge. The greenhouses, which house a fascinating collection of plants, have an entrance fee of €12 for adults, €9 for reduced price tickets (such as students or 7-17-year-olds), and €6 for children. The garden’s mission is to maintain a scientific plant collection for research, education, and conservation. If you’re in Helsinki, don’t miss this green oasis!

Kysymys. Miksi messut poistettiin aukiolta? Aiemmin sijainneen rakennuksen saneeraustyön valmistumisen yhteydessä?
