Hietalahti (also known as Sandviken in Swedish) is a coastal area in the southern part of the Kamppi neighborhood in Helsinki, Finland. Notable features include the Hietalahti shipyard. The borders of Hietalahti are defined by the seaside, Mechelininkatu, Ruoholahdenkatu, Albertinkatu, and Bulevardi. Historically, it was a sandy bay between two rocky peninsulas, and over time, it has transformed from industrial use to residential and office spaces. If you’re ever in the area, consider visiting the Hietalahti Market Hall or exploring the nearby neighborhoods of Jätkäsaari and Hernesaari.
Sinebrychoff Park, colloquially known as Koff Park, is a popular green space in Punavuori, Helsinki, Finland. It was originally a private garden established by Russian-born businessman Nikolai Sinebrychoff (1786-1848). The park’s name is derived from the nearby Sinebrychoff brewery, which operated from 1819 to 1992. If you’re in the area, consider enjoying a leisurely stroll or a picnic in this charming urban oasis!
Mikael Agricola Church (Finnish: Mikael Agricolan kirkko, Swedish: Mikael Agricola kyrka) is a Lutheran church located in the Punavuori district of Helsinki, Finland. Designed by Lars Sonck, it was built between 1933 and 1935 and inaugurated on 14 April 1935. The church stands as a tribute to Bishop Mikael Agricola, who significantly contributed to the development of the Finnish language. Constructed from red bricks, the church features a 97-meter-high tower, with its top reaching 103 meters above sea level. During wartime, the tower’s 30-meter spike could be retracted to avoid aiding enemy bombers. The church hall accommodates 850 people, and its crypt can host events for up to 200 people.
