Helsinki Katajanokka, July 2024
Music Track: The Magnificient Escape by Robert Meyers
Katajanokka is a district in Helsinki, located on the eastern shore of downtown. It was originally a peninsula, but now it’s separated from the mainland by the Katajanokka Channel, which is crossed by four bridges connecting it to the area between Kauppatori (Market Square) and the eastern end of Aleksanterinkatu. The district is known for its well-preserved Art Nouveau architecture, which can be found beyond the famous Uspenski Cathedral1. Additionally, Hotel Katajanokka, a unique hotel, is situated in a historic former prison building, offering chic design, comfort, and personal service. In the summertime, the terraces along the shoreline create a picturesque oasis by the sea.
The Katajanokka peninsula in Helsinki is home to six giant icebreakers. These impressive vessels play a crucial role in wintertime by clearing shipping lanes in icy waters. However, during summertime, you can get up close and admire these mighty icebreakers from the Merikasarmi Quay
