It gained popularity when it was played later in that year in a Finnish Guard & Russian Imperial Guard joint military exercise in Krasnoye Selo near St. Petersburg, and the Russian Emperor Nicholas I wanted to present the march to Friedrich Wilhelm III of Prussia as a gift. Nowadays Suomi-marssi / Marsch aus Petersburg is the official march of the Guard's Battalion based in Helsinki.
