Helsinki New Hakaniemi Bridge And the Demolition of the Old Bridge, June 2024
Music Track: Cosmic by Lish Grooves (RU-vid Studio)
The Hakaniemensilta bridge is a new bridge being constructed in Helsinki, Finland.
The original Hakaniemi bridge, completed in 1961, is deteriorating, necessitating its replacement.
The new bridge will connect the northern part of Kruununhaka and the coast road of Sörnäinen.
Unlike the old bridge, the new one will not have massive ramps, providing more space for new construction.
It is designed to be low and lightweight, without overhead supports, blending seamlessly into the cityscape.
The bridge will accommodate two lanes for cars in each direction, as well as pedestrians and cyclists.
Construction began in February 2022, and if all goes according to plan, it will open for traffic in late 2024.
Additionally, the Crown Bridges Light Rail project will connect Laajasalo, Korkeasaari, and Kalasatama to Hakaniemi by 2027, providing a new seaside route for cyclists and pedestrians. The project is progressing well, with passenger tram service expected to commence in 2027.
