Your video on the actual original dimensions of the park. Fantastic!! Brought back memories of when Lou Brock hit one out of the Polo Grounds. Wondering how many amazing players and feats we never got to see. So happy that the world has changed. We are family. Cherish and learn from one another. Go Cardinals!!! Jordan hit a HR. Perhaps bring his bat up to spark the team?
Great game at Rickwood. I'm glad you were able to cover it and experience the ambiance of the park, if not the area. I hope serious and successful efforts are made to preserve as many of the remaining historic parks as possible--even if people need to be educated about the history. If they play an MLB game in the old Evansville park I'll definitely be there. Great win Looking forward to the show about today's game.
Thx for late night work. Glad to get your perspective being down there on the feel of the game & community. Fox & MLB did a great job but still enjoyed your take.
Brenden you are spot-on with your assessments of this event. Even though this was about color, it does matter what your race you had to have sincere appreciation for what happened. More events like this is needed to heal some of the racial tension in our country. Thanks, Brenden!
MLB had been talking with Bosse Field in Evansville, IN about having a game. Bosse Field is one of the oldest, built in 1915. League of their own was filmed here!
Great venue in an historic ballpark. Winn played very well as he usually does but one play could have been ugly. He strayed way off of 1st and when the catcher bobbled the ball he took a few more steps toward 2nd. The catcher finally controlled the ball and was in front of home plate. Winn was froze and instead of the catcher running toward him and faking throws to 1st and 2nd he stood there and tossed the ball to 2nd giving Winn an easy way back to 1st. Thought they taught that play in little league. This game was more than just about baseball. Best game and venue I have ever seen. I played there a couple games in the early 70’s and this game brought back so many memories. Very emotional for me thinking of how far we have come. Hopefully MLB has at least a game at Rickwood every year.
@@bschaeffer12 It was silly. Winn has been a great surprise this year. Had no idea he could maintain a 300 average this far into the season. Glad you got to attend the game at Rickwood. I’m a little jealous 😂
Haha I'm not sure that's true but hopefully I'm just heading toward taking care of my family by doing what I love. I could be proud for reaching that level, keeping it in perspective and keeping focus on the opinions of my people and those who are in my corner. Gotta try to stick to that.
I remember saying before the season I didn’t care what Winnie hit, I hoped for a .250/.325/.375…thinking the offense was robust enough to carry his light hitting. But Brenden, he looks like a superstar in waiting. I mean, he might be the best defensive SS since Renteria, and he’s got some pop.
And not to mention he has some power that hasn’t been unleashed yet. Once he builds a bit more muscle not only will he be hitting near .300 but he’ll be hitting for some power too.
Sorry Ace. I do need ads in order to do these for my career but I also don't want that to be so inundating. I don't set the breaks but I'm sorry that happened on this one.
One doesn't have to be black, or a person of color to be overwhelmed by the magnitude of the moment and the historical significance, and then there was the tributes to Willie Mays, and then Reggie Jackson, candidly, tells his painful story of his time in the south. Bob Gibson, had his own adversity in the face of racism, and in 1967, the great HOF sportswriter, Bob Broeg brought Gibson a breakfast sandwich so he could have something to eat before game 7 of the World Series. He wasn't allowed to eat with the team.
I noticed that the pants they were wearing seem to be the new design from this year but the jerseys they were wearing were jerseys from last year not this year. The mlb logo was in the right place towards the top, the plackets were back to their original size, and the players weren’t sweating through them. Also the STL stars jerseys had last year’s embroidered Stifel patch as opposed to this year’s cheaper plastic Stifel patch. Could this be a sign that Nike is going back to last years jerseys and patches or could these even be a prototype for what we could see in 2025. I guess we’ll see.
this might be a little outside the box, but what do you think about the future of chris roycroft as a cardinal? i think if roycroft practiced some pfps and developed a true offspeed pitch like a change or split, he could become an decent starter. his stuff is crazy
I want to see how the team performs once we get Contreras, Nootbar, and Edmonds back. If we can score enough runs to give the bullpen breaks and rotate them in and out, I think this team could be a playoff contender. Honestly, I think they should trade Paul to the yanks or phils for some pitching and bench depth. Drop Arenado down in the order and let the young guys be young guys. Ken Griffey Jr was once on the field at yankee stadium and he was not allowed to play on the field, yet one of the white ballplayers had his child on the field. His father told him, that's the NYY. It must have torn Steinbrenner up because there was not enough money that could be thrown at him to get him to be a yankee. I hate that the media hated Bonds, even if he juiced he was still a hof before he ever got on the it. It would be amazing to have him around the game more often. He's sitting on much baseball knowledge, Willie Mays godson, he is a great link to the past. I am happy that we got to celeberate the Negro Leagues and the players.
My initial reflex was to razz you for saying get “Edmonds” back, rather than Edman… but after recalling who runs this franchise I did a quick google search to make sure then hadn’t actually signed Edmonds to a 1 year contract at league minimum 😂
Really disappointing I couldn't watch this game because it was blacked out on MLB tv. Really seems ironic and counter productive for what they were trying to do.
@@boschlosser10 Doesn't change my point. I don't have cable or RU-vid TV but I pay for what supposed to be all the Cardinals games on MLB TV. I shouldn't have to pay anyone anything else to watch what I'm already paying for. A game like this shouldn't be blacked out on the app that literally only exists for watching baseball games. Blackout restrictions are the number one factor limiting the growth of the sport and whoever is responsible for them is the biggest cuck in sports.
If anyone has watched Hagen Smith I recommended a look see.. 17.4/k per 9 Arkansas lefty… cardinals and Mo make big mistakes if he’s there and pass on him
Never, never, give Barry Bonds that much credit. Yes, he was an exceptional player before steroids, a Hall of FAME player; however, he was never in the mention of one of the “Greatest of All Time.” He was fast as a younger player, but he had no arm. Any Gold Glove he could have won was based on speed. His envy of others led to his explicit decision to take so many steroids that his whole body changed. As the creators of his steroids said, “We were surprised. We expected the drugs could increase muscle mass and strength; we did not envision the increase in quick-twitch reflex, muscle reaction.” NEVER UNDERESTIMATE WHY HE CAN NEVER BE IN THE HALL! If we can keep Shoeless Joe Jackson and others accused of betting on baseball out, WE CAN NEVER LET BONDS BACK IN THE GOOD GRACES! I am even closer (but NEVER IN still) to allowing Pete Rose in. NO! The Hall should be, isn’t always, but should be…about HONOR TO WHOM HONOR IS DUE….not just play on the field. Is this guy worth giving honor? No. Absolutely not! He let a good man, a close friend, rot in jail, rather than just admit what he took. I think the time in jail reached a year.
Barry bonds is 1000 percent in the discussion for the goat conversation. Everyone in that era was taking steroids just like a few years ago when pitchers were putting spider tac on their hands. He was so good that teams would walk him with the bases loaded.
@@bschaeffer12 Absolutely, we can always agree to disagree. Let’s talk about what I think we both agree upon: Hearing about Willie mays, and about the fact that even the great Roberto Clemente suffered some racial discrimination makes my lifelong admiration of their greatness and personalities even more important. Growing up, my two favorite players were Roy Campanella, (spelling unsure) and Roberto Clemente. I was a catcher, but the latter, Clemente joined Willie Mays in demonstrating the joy of playing the game! What Mays accomplished on defense, with speed, and in hitting for average and power, with such great all-around success may never be equaled. We can probably agree the a Japanese man, special, unique, may well inspire the net generation of players, may well set records never before imagined, inspiring more individuals, from ethnicities we do not yet even associate with baseball. Sports! To know that many of the greats from the Cards’ early days played against the Negro Leagues’ players in the summer, many knowing some of the best athletes in the world were being denied what should have been their birthrights: to play the game! Thanks for all you do. We can just disagree on Bonds.
Barry Bonds is the best player of all time. If you think the HOF is anything more than marginally based on character go look up the track records of half the people in it.
Honestly, I think baseball is moving past just absolute sluggers and station to station baseball. The Cardinals have to adjust. Team speed and defense is coming back. Hit and run, moving runners over, productive outs. We do not need 40-50 hr guys any more. We need better fundamentals. Slugging and home runs are nice, but getting key basehits and scoring risp. Our Lineup should be Donavan, Winn, Burelson, Contreras, Gorman, Edmunds, Herrera, Fermin, Arenado
Herrera and Fermin batting before Arenado… mhm never happening Donovan imo needs to stay lower in the order and become that clutch version of Renteria.. Noot also will be back unless traded for an arm.. Goldschmidt glove and ability at first base will keep him in play over any one else… Pages is better than Herrera and that has been proven… Herrera imo should be moved for a high leverage Kittredge/Romero like arm give these guys more help… Carlson too..
That's always been my opinion you don't necessarily need a guy to hit 40 home runs just give me five or six guys that can bat 300 and you win more games
I don't know if you've been watching the games but Herrera is the 2nd best bat we got now. We need to score runs to win. Goldschmidt is good for 1 hit a game, maybe. That's not a cleanup hitter
Herrera isn’t better than Donovan Winn or Burleson give me a break.. so that automatically makes him 4th and Wilson would of not got hurt he’s automatically 5th I don’t think you’ve been watching
