I agree on most, but I have Miles with a C and Lance with a D-. Miles has been better IMO and is more dependable. No one in MLB has started more games than Miles and he's 22nd in IP. Lance has come out before completing 5 innings far too many times. I get that he's had some unearned runs, but not all of those are completely unearned. He goes off the rails quickly.

Mo is going to ride Goldy to a missed playoff or wildcard asswhoopin' and then say "our season depended on Goldy performing like we expected him to," all while refusing to bench him just so they can can use the "Goldy didnt perform like we expected him to" excuse for missing the playoffs or getting crushed in the WC. They declared Goldy has to "perform like they expect him to" before the season started, and they refuse to make adjustments just so they have that excuse...they think it will absolve them from another disappointing season.

As far as bullpen I'd give Helsley, JoJo, Kittredge, Fernandez, and King an A. Overall grades of other Cardinals players: Goldschmidt D, Arenado B-, Gorman C-, Nootbaar C, Carlson D-, Herrera C, Carpenter C-, Crawford D-, Gibson B, Lynn B-, Mikolas C-, Matz F, Pallante C, Liberatore B-, Roycroft B, Leahy B-, and Gallegos F.

That being said, I do agree 100% on your evaluation of the position players. Especially Winn an Sinai. D is extremely important up the middle and these two guys are as good as it get. Gorman is not the guy for me. Maybe if he hit 50 homers but he doesn’t and you can’t overlook his 200 K’ a year and the fact that his D at 2nd is less than I think it should be. Hard for me to individually rank the starters so I give them a C as a group. With the few runs we have scored in many of the games it seems they are always under pressure. Relievers I also score as a group and they get a C+ or maybe a little better from me. A- for our closer. Numbers are great but that has a little to do with sticking him in for almost every save opportunity. We have to disagree on Oli. He doesn’t have all the horses but I’m not impressed with his lineup management or what I think is an over use of our closer. He gets a C- from me. I think Mo has to be judged on several years of work in that he has done some good things but is limited lately on the amount of money he can spend. C+. Thanks for a well thought out show.

I'm sure there *are* but it's so hard to give specific grades when there is so much about who is responsible for what week to week game to game and moment to moment that we won't know. Sure, we could grade 3B coach on how many good sends vs bad sends he's had (I think he's probably been more bad than good this year but that's just anecdotal and he's also had some aggressive sends that have led to key runs, Siani scoring on Elly comes immediately to my mind and it won them a game, etc.) So I think the answer to your question is ultimately yes but it's tricky to break down

Pages deserves that grade, especially considering that he only logged 51 games in AAA (and only 7 in the past two seasons). And really, for a guy at the back end of the lineup, I'd rather have a guy who does his offensive damage when it matters most than someone who pads his stats when it doesn't. You have to be able to count on whoever is Contreras' backup to get heavy use, and Pages has stepped up. I swear I've made this comment at some point during the pre-season "buzz" (or lack thereof) but man I swear the Cardinals and Sox parallel each other; especially when looking at their struggles noted going into, and as we've moved deeper into the season. With that only difference really being the ability (if ownership truly wanted to) to absolutely BALL out both heading into the second half deadline/before our season even started. Also shoutout Packy Naughton. I still haven't given up on the idea that he can make his way back into the bullpen and eat up some innings for this second half.

@@bschaeffer12 Realistically speaking, I know he's really just getting back on the bump in Memphis after that unfortunate season ending flexor tendon surgery last season but you think they (the Cards) will end up putting him back on the 40 man if not into the pen for the 2nd half? I know he never was that guy w elite stuff or will blow ppl away when he takes the mound but the fact that's he's a crafty lefty with a decent amount of big league experience (esp when considering his previous stint w the Halos when he was still being used as a starter + his time developing in the Red farm also as a starter) and high floor (relative to the rest of the clubs current pen options & Memphis arms) just seems like it would make almost TOO much sense to have him penciled in to be that "utility" pitcher (whether it's a mop up job, low/hugh leverage or even spot starts purely off previous workload history). I guess to top all that reasoning off Naughton has proven to be (relatively) "durable" and reliable when it comes to just eating a few innings here and there. At least when looking at his proball career, disregarding this latest injury that required surgey, I don't believe Packy has had an excessively long nor frequent IL stints; with his last major season-ending injury being back in 2013 during his junior year of HIGH SCHOOL after going down w TJ. So between give or take a 10 yearish span Naughton had roughly 777 innings of work under his belt (*caveat this is across college, cape code league & proball but for the purpose of this point it's moreso the volume of work rather than skill anyways) between his first major injury and his most recent season ender in '23 (if that doesn't scream reliability then idk what you would classify reliable as).

I don’t have the complete stats on him but I think I remember him coming in at least a couple times when we were up by 3 in the 9th. I don’t want him warn out. Closer stats don’t mean much to me since runners on are not counted against them. I do like his WHIP. Pretty damn good. Little tougher schedule coming up but I still think we have a better chance of taking the central than getting a wild card. Disappointing that we split against the Cubies and damn near lost 3 of them.
