HELSREACH - Part 4 - A Warhammer 40k Story

*NINE. DAYS.* Holy shit the Astartes have really legendary endurance to endure nine days of Imperial bureucracy

Wow that one was a lot of work! I apologize for stuff that's not 100% authentic to the lore (believe me I'd love proper Steel Legion) but so far I've managed to juuuust scrape together enough assets to tell the story, and that's what's matters the most. Now I'm finally going to get some sleep. Also someone tell Netflix to let me make them a 40k series!

"I endure this for nine days, niine DAAAYS!!" brilliant. Love the whole thing but that part certainly made me laugh. The way you capture emotion in these leaves me in awe. Well done good sir. As many, I really appreciate you doing this and the work involved, bringing the novel to life.

anyone feel like the Marines are just on the edge of smacking the normal humans? like they could kill at any second? i think that is how it would feel to stand next to one of them, and somehow you captured that good job

Although I, as many, don't like bureaucracy, the way it is shown in here talks much about he depth of the universe. The city is alive, and so is everyone living there. This is not a battle for a piece of hollow rubber, this is a battle that will decide the fate of millions of souls, of millions of families that want to live another day to thank the Emperor for his protection. The pacing, the dialogue, the shots clearly show this without making it boring. It makes it clear that the war to come has a meaning far greater than the glory of a single commander, and builds up perfectly the hype for the future moments of glory and grief and horror that the soldiers will endure. Thank you for this, words cannot describe what I'm feeling right now. I'm just going to say that it is perfect, and that I'm shedding tears of joy for how great this is.

"And this, they say, is the overview...!" I can sympathise, Grimaldus, I truly can.

"Martial law is in immediate effect." "As a Black Templar, shouldn't that be ... High Marshal law?" "Puns are heresy." BLAM.

That scene in the war room with all the logistics is one of the reason I love 40k. It's the only sci-fi to truly address the massive bureaucracy and supply issues that would be found in a galaxy spanning empire. Not only does it address these statistics with the proper scale and a great deal of realism, it somehow isn't boring.

I can't until you get to the part when Grimaldus motivates the troops with an awesome speech.

When and how did you earn God-Emperor's blessing? Seriously, It is too magnificent to be done by simple non-saint!

It's interesting that doom sirens have remained unchanged for 38 millenia. The ambiance of this anthology is freaking top notch.

Your work is amazing. Probably my favorite of the 40k/30k audiobooks and youve done nothing but enhance it. Your art style really helps to convey the the grim dark future. Some of my favorite parts you've done are the scenes with no dialog. So much world building in those moments. Your ability to convey Grimaldus's and his squads mood and expressions while being helmed is amazing. Love love love your work.

Shit like this is exactly what got me hooked on Warcraft back in the day. WC1 and WC2 were brutal. I never looked into Warhammer much until I found this series and I have to say it makes me feel like those old Blizzard games did. Thank you for showing me how badass Warhammer really is.

I love how the gargantuan quantity of statistical analysis required to prepare a single Hive for war is simultaneously terrifying, engrossing, and mind-numbingly dull.

Wow, the way you crafted the atmosphere, it was amazing. The moment that alarm sounded I was a civilian in that city and an officer in the HQ at the same time. I felt my heart skip a beat and my asshole tense up. Amazing.

The whole segment with the city's statistics is brilliant, especially Grimaldus' heavy sigh at the end. NINE DAAAYS, awesome.

I love to think of this scene when people talk about how realistic and complex a strategy game is. Nine days of stats and planning. Nine. Days.

This is absolutely incredible... the direction, the pacing, even the style (which i assume was opted for to reduce visual issues and keep up a frequent turn-out of episodes, which i'm so very grateful for) works really, really well... I'm honestly so excited for this series and apologize now for my lack of descriptive ability but this is just fucking amazing... absolutely fucking amazing. And to have achieved this single-handed... Outstanding effort Rich, truly amazing. This is a monumental achievement so far, a crowning example of the potential the 40k universe has and a defining statement of how a 40k story, when in the right hands, can be something truly special and a property that deserves far more attention as a visual medium. It is criminal that this series hasn't been viewed by far more people yet, hundreds of thousands of 40k fans who crave a series such as this as much as i did, and i shall not rest until it garners the views and attention it rightfully deserves. Thank you so very much for the time and work you have chosen to invest in this project so far and beyond. We, the lore-whore's, are incredibly grateful.

I'd never heard any official source mentions unions in the Imperium before. I'd be curious to see something that delved into that. It's such a dystopian setting, the idea that anyone agreed to give workers even a token voice is kind of surprising, so they'd have to be either fuckawful or pretty fucking militant. Either way it'd make a great Warhammer bit. Oh and of course also, this is rad as shit, you're amazing, holy shit you're so fucking cool, how did you even, have my babies.

This is fantastic stuff. You've really nailed the aesthetic of the grim darkness of a future in which there is only war. The Space Marines actually look like they are sinister super soldiers. I think this is the best 40k video I've seen yet. Others might be more technically polished, but this one actually looks right.

This is a work of art, all involved should be very, very proud, also the narrator sounds like Kain from blood omen... extra points just for that!

Looking back, I truly believe that High Marshall Helbrecht sent Grimaldus to this position, not to shame him or deny him glory, but to humble him and let him see and experience another part of leadership that was necessary for him to be a Reclusiarch, possibly even maybe one day a High Marshall himself. Helbrecht is showing the Reclusiarch how logitistics, records, beauracuracy and so many other things are part of leader as well. As an E-6 in the Army, let's just say when I was a Specialist, with 2 deployments under me, by the time I wanted E-5, it very nearly drove me insane. I had LOTS of ideas once I got my Sergeant stripes (When my temper and attitude had finally lowered to a level that they felt I could be responsible enough) but now I had to work with officers, now I had to sit in leaders meeting, NCO meetings, had to read OPORDs and double check CONOPs. I had to sit in meetings about plans for PT during deployment, so much stuff. And I was sitting there, an impatient 13F Forward Observer, just wanting to lead my dismount team down with the infantry on patrol. Then came learning more. I was required to learn so much more about Fires Planning, Fire Support Planning, Fire Support Coordination, the Fire Support Coordination Measures, the AFATDS computer, put it all together in briefings, ensure it's done in the Task Purpose Method Effect nature.... How it IRKED me as a young Sergeant to deal with all of this. I went from the E-4 that was just about being with the infantry and carrying out fire missions in support of them and ready to drop rounds in surprise situations, to now I was the one that had to do the planning. And after becoming an E6 FSNCO, it got deeper. I tell you now, everyone wants to be the leader until it comes time to do everything that comes WITH leadership. Reclusiarch Grimaldus probably learned alot more in his days in Helsreach in a crash-course of leadership on a large scale than ever before in 200 years of service to the Black Templars. It was one of the many things that made him worthy of the title Reclusiarch.

By the emperor. It is so well done and you ended it right when the tension was at its most high. It is Glorious.
