""I do not understand what just happened'" Imagine you were in a battle and got injured and a literal angel turned up, kicked all your enemies and then stood over you giving you comfort as you died. ... that's why the animation in her eyes is so good.

For the lore you are right. In modern society, any hand to help you is a blessing. It is what folk do.

The Guardsmans death is a powerful scene. Priamus( the Space Marine) is young, has no empathy for humanity. He has no idea what to do as she’s dying. He keeps looking for someone to do something, anything to take his place. He sees her fight to stay alive but knows she’ll die. So, he finally grants her a great Honor. His Grace. She passes before one of the Emperors Angels. Blink and you’ll miss it. His head nods. A sign of Respect. Your life is not your own. It is The Emperors Coin. Spend it well. And she did.

This video was a total waste, reactions from people that know nothing about the lore. Read the book if you want it to make sense.

Well put.
@scar445

he is young, arrogant, VERY skilled and still fairly new as a space marine. the time as neophyte and the later term of service as a scout marine also helps to drill out humanity. before that scene, he was all of this. but after her death, he realizes just what it means to be a space marine. one of the emperors chosen. an angel of the god emperor himself. it means to be transhuman. you must loose a part of yourself in order to become more. to transgress the limitations of humanity they must give up the very thing that makes them human. and its all made clear to him in a second. he will forever connect the death of that random, nameless guards(wo)man with his understanding of the price that must be paid in order to serve the emperor as a space marine. on a personal note, in my opinion, the Vlka Fenryka (space wolves) seem to suffer more from this loss of empathy towards humans than others. i suspect its on account of the Canix Helix, or maybe its their "viking" ways?? after all, thralls were a common thing in viking history and the Huscarls (guardsmen) seem to fit this role, accepting that even hesitating to follow an order from a space wolf always warrants the possibility of serious maiming or death. surprisingly they respond to this style of command with a fierce loyalty and an unshakeable sense of duty that precedes everything in their life. anyways, im getting off track, what is your opinion on my theory?
@ChocorocK
@ChocorocK 5 лет назад
@@scar445 What? The Space Wolves are one of the most empathetic chapters to ever exist. They openly fraternize with Humans they serve with and risked war with the Inquisition and the Grey Knights to Protect the survivors of the First War of Armageddon from sterilization/extermination camps. Even with them going Wulfen they still have more humanity and self control in them compared to the likes of the Blood Angels struck with the Black Rage and Red thirst.
@scar445
@scar445 5 лет назад
@@ChocorocK a space marine going Wulfen looses touch with humanity and is transformed into a mutant that is only kept alive to be unleashed upon enemies, so that even in failure, the wolves serve. and while they do "fraternize" they also see humans as less. they understand, perhaps better than most, how weak humans are. they have no disdain from that knowledge. its just a fact. a fact that manifests itself truly when seeing wolves deal with huskaerls . that not only expect but demand that they die for the "sky warriors", that they may continue their work in the name of the emperor. and most importantly: their sole purpose as a Legion: to utterly destroy and cripple beyond saving, any enemy deemed bad enough for the wolves to intervene.

To explain a bit the scene - to regular humans, those huge guys in power armor are like angles. Literally. The God-Emperors (pretty much IS a god) Angels of Death. They are trans-human to an absurd degree and having one comfort you is a BIG deal since most humans will never see one.
@StarboyXL9

Just watched this and I love it...the scene where she's dying is deep because they see the marines as demi gods and him staying with her in the end says her duty is done and he will carry on her fight
@blamalam7257

The girls death scene, that was a Benediction, seeing as Space Marines are literally Genetic Grandsons of the Immortal God Emperor of Mankind and Instruments of his WILL ,thus Almost as Holy. Plus Space Marines are Basically Warrior-Monks, so what he was doing to that Chick was Basically Last Rites/blessing her to the afterlife.
@stuartlittledrowning4965
@stuartlittledrowning4965 5 лет назад
The scene with him and the dyeing soldier had deeper meaning. The space Marines don't really consider themselves human anymore as they have been so desensitized to death over their milenia long lives of endless war. This guy in particular considered humans to be so weak they where beneath him, it was awesome to show him regaining a bit of his humanity.

I agree with other people in the comments. You should have started at part 1. It takes a while to grasp the full picture (especially if you are not that familiar with 40k lore), but around part 6 and here it gets really good.

That death of the guardswoman scene. You guys better understand it, because it is one of the most powerful scenes ever. It takes the lore of W40k, a superb story, and the masterful rendering of the makers of Helsreach to produce it. We don't see things like that in movies, just like people in the W40k universe rarely get to experience what she did.

To make clear the confusion at the end, the person kneeling was comforting the dying guardswoman. He is an Astarte, and are genetically enhanced super-warriors. To normal humans, they are literal Angels of Death. Their mere presence is already an honor, and him taking time to watch over her as she passed would have meant an infinite amount to her.

In case that you might still don't know. Games-Workshop owns two different Warhammer titles, fantasy setting and sci-if setting. Warhammer 40k is the title of sci-fi setting talling stories of humanity - fighting space elf, space ork, space deamons, space bugs, other alien species, human trailors- in (roughty speaking) 40000 years ahead. Narratives can be told ranged from 30xxx AD. to 41xxx AD. This is why everythings relating to WH40k always have "in the grim darkness of far future".

In the lore, spacemarines are the emperor's angels of death. You can go your entire life without ever seeing a 9ft tall superhuman the equal of a hundred men. To be in the presence of a astartes is to stand before a son of the emperor.
