Here we look at cuts 3 & 4, recovery from them and a figure of eight exercise using them. Also a little more work on the lunge.

Interesting that you mentioned using a lighter/heavier weapon for training. One thing I have found quite useful is the use of lighter weapons will expose and iron out technique flaws as with a really light weapon you're able to focus completely on mechanics without also dealing with weight. Also allows you to train for hours. Foil for example is invaluable in terms of conditioning for rapier. However, I also think that training regularly with a normal weight sword and heavier swords is certainly important as the arm strength required for sabre, rapier, sidesword, and even smallsword is often underestimated.

I can not thank you enough or these videos. I have been eager to begin learning HEMA for a few years now but live in deepest darkest Wales and have few travel options. These types o video are exactly what I have been looking for, thank you good sir.

Glad to hear it. Where abouts are you? Both the main instructors of the AHF live in South Wales.

What bag would you recommend for transporting your saber to class around public transport, etc? I can get my jacket and mask in a regular sports bag but what I see online for carrying a saber/longsword are massive things. Thanks!

Have a look at rifle bags on ebay. You want the non-rifle shaped ones, so a simple retangular shape, as linked below. I use a few of these. They even have a pull out extention peice to take longer blades. You can fit upto 8 training swords in one of these, depending on type. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Tactical-Carbine-Long-Rifle-Bag-Gun-Case-Firearm-Backpack-w-Pistol-Handgug-Case/372725158278?_trkparms=ispr%3D1&hash=item56c8269186:m:mYlIT44Gob9yrasMdzk_9jA&enc=AQAEAAACUBPxNw%2BVj6nta7CKEs3N0qWKVAko4s12o6HQb3oweaB14OrFdsOCEDkWvyMJ4tXblA8HQx3LklRuERo2niQnIpHizACx7B5SbnL9kZWIRuPVidORjRet4OTTPVF55k%2FRguWAP%2B8qR1ki4bfe6Nbx3jciilSAofLs7%2FdKWqUJN%2Fnbqy1DkBiJpgFQHxNLipokPxEvhaCecvN99ddmGiHnZBlCv%2FkBhSTmh9D%2FeVNm9%2F7UCgjTBSgjaLFTKW3kbY2H7IkogdOStEtPkp0XUWFxWG3o1ZChdvPSO5abFIzBwcPCgkdJzoiXLhrnsPaW5yne%2FtLrDhkKOeoHiQLO1%2FOv4r0fO2sptEgl8ys55rWNZeV1KID5ts%2FgJgJC3n17FqM3v0NiGa05GyZvf%2BqDIhel12Fs7mkwqcRBrjZ34Emc3IVff2NfxRTJXlaMRTLaEhV2mut1tlwp70MOyxdImBC9NN4PP%2FV4HVbKBpYJ1TSZyuZ40pXpi1HZCI7Gw%2BXoEfltSaez%2BIbo50ix9gaMz8f6pFGxXzribIQcp5KIuwZPU3bmU5GXxCOqNQCjJ6adSWoWGSNoAVcGLeesu1c1PbOmpCiCPTfJTh0gKSmkq2DIhaM5HvckbjKnyD84AQ5%2FAAZ6W%2B2Mu8%2FFjx17Y5FypDjf%2FKUp8pyCYTPSnbFMieecU7SF4TyccJS7UbLlkElsOvO2IUpQtanOOgOMCXIIe76ReKqRAG9aAZ8xGsECGTntIQAMHMVaZLG27JiQOo3ePPyqRjPU9L9uSSfjjJH9MuYC1tI%3D&checksum=372725158278f17917eccc074261ad064a196ef8ff5a

Also this type of fishing bag is really good, I have a similar one. No zip, but much more durable for it. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rod-Holdall-Carp-123-34cm-Fishing-Bag-Folding-Padded-Tackle-Reel-Storage-Luggage/401983941079?hash=item5d981c29d7:m:muwkxU1JLRYsnGwYN9AzR_g

Have you checked your website's contact forms recently? I sent a message about a recording I did of AOD, would you mind checking it out?

We do check it regularly, but all that goes to my work computer, and I have been in lockdown this week, stuck at home. I intentionally keep things seperate to ensure I get time off, but in this crisis this is obviously an issue. We can be contacted earily via out Facebook public page though. Alternatively, post a link here.

@@AcademyofHistoricalFencing I commented on the Facebook post for this video with the contents of my email yesterday; may as well pop it here as well. Sorry to make a comment like this, I couldn't find any private means of communication besides the contact form on the website. Here's the contents of the email I sent there last Wednesday: Greetings, By some combination of intense self-isolation-induced boredom and admiration for your study of British military saber, I've taken it upon myself to record a full reading of your lovely transcription of the Art of Defense on Foot, Fourth Edition, by Charles Roworth. This is my first time doing anything like this, so pardon the quality of my performance; I recorded it on my phone under a blanket. Since it is your transcription, I'd like to ask permission to perhaps publish the reading on a platform like Soundcloud/RU-vid, and post it around on social media. Of course, I won't monetize it in any way. If you have any issues with this, like if the quality doesn't fit your standards, I'll go ahead and refrain from releasing it online. A link to the file is here, for your perusal: drive.google.com/.../1VFd3i.../view... I read everything, including the introduction. Thanks very much for your time, Andrew Zhang P.S.: I'm a big fan of your RU-vid channel! As a practitioner myself, I help to run a humble little club at UC Berkeley, here in California. It's great to see people doing things properly in your videos.
