Hey man!!!!! I just stumbled onto this series of videos regarding your Ram. I am looking to buy one next year. I will first say say I am sorry your having to deal with this. What I will say is your outlook on life is spot on! As much as I want to tell you ( Like everyone has told me) to keep your emotions out of I can't tell you that! As a truck guy and someone who has to save for a very long time to get what I want I also get very emotionally attached to my trucks. I commend you for these videos. I haven't all of them yet but I am still watching. Your either a real good actor hahha or you have the most honest videos I have ever seen. Love the human element of this. good luck my friend!!!
Hey Josh, I can't tell you how much I appreciate your comment. Although I consider myself a pretty decent actor, this was a real emotion..... The knocking sound happened on my way home from work and then literally when I got home i pulled out the camera. This whole ordeal caused me so much anxiety. I always put myself (heart and soul) into all of my videos. Thank you for your support sir. I hope you enjoy the other videos.
@@bigdaddyshouse I have watched all your videos this evening.. As I joke about your acting its seems your videos are so much to the human element. Like I said I love your outlook on life... love the moments at the end of your videos with your beautiful family... after i watched the hemi tick series ( as i mentioned I watched all your videos tonight) I ran into my wife and explained what a great channel i subscribed to... You, Your family, Your honesty, Your emotion is second to none. I am a fan... great videos my friend! I will finish this post with a group of words that your finish with... These words are on point! " Live Your Best Life" Love this!!
Thanks for the compliment Ryan. I Put a lot of time and effort into my videos. I'm glad it's appreciated. You can always help a brother out and share my videos on your social media. Thanks for watching and your support!
Chrysler has brought this hard working American family man nearly to tears... their core customer base. Can’t believe they haven’t even made an attempt to make it right...how is there not a class action law suit by now????
Good for you brother. I've got a 2014 Hemi and I totally understand the love of this truck. Glad you got the engine fixed with a good warranty. Love your truck too!
Hey David, after making these series of videos, it astounds me how many people have reached out to me having this problem. yeah, I decided to go to the more expensive route because I had 100,000 mi on that engine. Question for you though sir, would you buy another Hemi?
Your truck is probably the best color ever made. Worth it! Can't buy another one modded out like yours for that money so what hell, spend it. Enjoy it.
Hey Adam!! Man this video got me hard cause it’s true its more than just a truck, it’s something you invest in time and emotion! Been searching video about the hemi tick. I have an 08 Dodge Ram 1500 with 218k on it. Just recently fix exhausted manifold noise but I still keep hearing a tick. I’m hoping what you explain on the video will be cover with the popper train warranty! My next next step was for new injectors and fuel pump. People always tell me “ just get a new truck man your always doing something to it!” But they just don’t understand stand!! It’s shocks people that think my truck is brand new and find out I have had it for 12 years. Like I tell people all the time. “ I’ll probably kick the bucked before my old girl falls apart!
You said it brother! She's about to cost me more money too...... When do you say enough is enough. NEVER! Lol I know, I know, never say never though..... Thanks for your support brother!
My brand new truck has 4,000 miles on it and it just started that noise today. Ugh this sucks. Hopefully they take care of it. Going to the dealer tomorrow.
Great vids Adam!!! Sorry bout your Hemi. Should go Cummins!!!! I would definitely go for the gold with you tube!!! You have great content and great personality for it!!!!!!!!
Nice video bro , I have a 2011 ram 1500 crew cab Laramie and my truck been sitting in garage for about 2 weeks, and after I start it remotely I can hear ticking noise , I freak out turn it off and turn on again and it works normally no ticking noise, it’s been cold here in Midwest about 20 degrees
I bought my 2016 of my buddies wife after he passed away, and I just had that issue come up. Kinda of a nightmare now I have been out of work since March because of covid. They also broke into my job and stole all my tools, did not need this right now
I hear you Robert. One of my best friends passed away last year and I still have his text messages on my phone. Sad.... Unfortunately the Hemi tick will never go away. Replacing the cam and lifters, obviously is optimal. But as you said 2020 has been a trying year. You may want to try changing your oil with a high Molly, Redline full synthetic. It may help with giving you more time on that engine since replacing the parts might not be feasible or financially allowable right now. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching and keep your head held high brother!
@@bigdaddyshouse actually good news brother. It was two of the intake manifold bolts that snapped and created an exhaust leak. I didn't think it was because it sounded like the sound was coming off the lifters. So not too bad but will replace myself next time. Thanks again brother just thought you'd like to know. Have a great year man !
The average cost for a Dodge Ram 1500 camshaft replacement is between $1,348 and $1,608. Labor costs are estimated between $994 and $1,254 while parts are priced at $354. There is that. I don't get, when people claiming they paid $5-6000 and more for the repair. Except there is something else.
Yeah, I had an exhaust manifold I had lost two bolts. I replace that about 20,000 miles ago with BBK shorty headers and Stage 8 bolts... I did a ton of research on that hopefully I'll never have a problem again
Make your money any way u can, everyone else does. That blows man, and every time I put it in drive and turn that dam MDS off I worry about this shit. Love my truck and scares the shit out of me constantly and keep thinking about if I should sell before this happens. wish Dodge would do the right thing here
I hear you Jeffrey! That was my biggest quarrel with myself. Sell it and cut my losses or pony up the money and keep it. I literally hope this never happens to anyone else, but the fact of the matter is it's happening to many of us... I wish you luck sir.
Alternatively for yours or anyone who wants to avoid this you can do a complete mds delete kit which includes a non mds cam and upgraded lifters. As long as the problem just started and hasn’t sent metal all through the engine I’d say it’s worth it. It helps if you can do the work yourself 😁 MMX sells an awesome kit and it has what you might need.
Hey Elvis, I really hate this for all of us. If you're looking for some advice I can tell you what I wish I would have done. Get car repair insurance for the drivetrain. Then make a few monthly payments on it and take the truck in to get repaired. If you don't get insurance and you have a repaired it will cost you several grand. In my case I went a little above and beyond and just got a rebuilt Jasper motor. Hope this helps out brother.
Good call. Check out Uncle Tony's Garage on the hemi. It's a design flaw that starves the cam of oil. I have a 2017 1500 with 39,000 miles. So far so good, but with what I know now, I would have bought a Tundra.
@@briangil2163 2017 has the upgrades, Uncle Tony was just looking for clickbait(like alot lately)... he didn't even realize there is a lifter oil galley.. He admits he has no clue about modern engines... And Adam wasn't idling his engine.
I just pulled my jeep apart because I had a tick. Lifters and cam were both good. Oil was full of metal so now we’re stuck between a rock and an expensive solution. I’ve never owned a vehicle that I can honestly say is garbage.
I'm sorry to hear that man. I remember the feeling when I found out my engine was toast. Hopefully you're still under warranty. I unfortunately wasn't, so I had to make the call to Jasper engines. I got 15,000 mi on it now. she still running strong. Thanks for sharing brother
Right! Is yours a Canadian model? From what I've read, pretty much every RAM (with a HEMI) from 2006 up has this problem. Some get the tickets as early as 6,000 mi and with my particular case it was 103,000
It was built 1 mile from my house in Warren, Michigan at the Mound road Truck plant. I'm only saying I don't have it due to my vin # I've read and maybe I'm wrong, reading from right to left if you have the letter D you don't have it. If it's the # 2 you do. I also get horrible gas mileage around 12.5 on average, but that can be due to only 6 speed transmission as well. Do you know any other way I can tell for sure?
Mine was built in the exact same plant. I can't comment on the numbers and letters because I'm not well versed on what they all mean. However I have used a site in the past and it literally tells every little thing that's in your truck. www.vindecoderz.com/EN/Dodge/Ram Let me know what you find out brother
@@bigdaddyshouse just went and 😪 I have the MDS. 85k no tick yet. Been running Mobile 1 full synthetic. Just keep my fingers crossed. Thanks for the site man. Take care.
I had the same on 10 it was my exhaust manifold bolts and gasket upgraded bolts and everything stock manifolds again, sound went away it was exactly the same. Took it to a shop they said it was bad lifters as well I did more search discovered this. Maybe it’s different for you which would suck.
Hi Adam, are you able to find out what exactly happened with your old engine, also was your engine going back as a core exchange as a part of the deal? Thank you for letting us know about the situation!keep going forward!
So my engine was a combination of the Hemi tick and the valve seat. All bad news that Dodge should address! Maybe they could take notes from Jasper. And the core is worth 900 bucks. So most definitely I'm giving them my engine LOL. Kind of wish there was a way I could track it. That way I could see where it ends up, so I can see were my heart is beating again...... Im so extra hahahaha.
@@bigdaddyshouse thank you for getting back to me. So if you pay them the cost of the core you're able to keep it and work on it fix it and sale it or keep it as a spare engine?
@@nickbotici7157 that is correct. if I keep it, then basically I lose that $900. But I could however keep it in my garage and replace the parts and rebuild it myself in my own time. I wish i could do that for all of you and myself but i just don't have the time to do that. Now if I did RU-vid full time maybe that would be a possibility.... But honestly RU-vid doesn't pay mortgage money until 100,000 subscribers. So this is real life and I'm going to core out my engine. GREAT QUESTION NICK!
Hey Raymond, I've unfortunately had both happen. The Hemi tick, I talk about here, which is probably the worst financially thing that could happen to you if you were out of warranty. Which I was $103,000... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2x1YW2kK9h8.html 20,000 mi before this video, if you decide to watch it, would be an exhaust leak. Much cheaper to fix and very common. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jHovhX5gDa4.html so I guess the answer to your question is both happened within 20,000 mi. Each condition definitely sounds different. As an exhaust leak eventually goes away as engine heats up and closes the gap between the block and the exhaust manifold. The hemi tick never went away because it's a seized up roller smashing against a cam. Which cost me almost $7,000 to fix cuz I decided to put a Jasper engine in it. I wish this for nobody. Thanks for watching brother.
Sorry Anu, Jasper isn't really an auto shop where you can drive your car to and have them fix a problem. To my knowledge, they just build engines and shipped them to locations to have somebody else install. You can read more about Jasper engines here. www.jasperengines.com/crate-engines Thanks for your support brother
you can talk bad about it just be honest and don't be a youtube click bait shill(which this video isn't) ... I don't monetize my sh*t. But UT is trying to make a living off YT and is desperate for hits. He makes up plain bs for hits. He then tries to lie and cover his bs up. He didnt even know there is a lifter oil galley that feeds the lifters/cams... He claims its only by luck and splash... He call Chrysler engineers morons. I work with engineers, they aren't stupid. (i dont work in the auto industry).
(Taking your Ram into the dealer while it's still under warranty): Service Manager: (shouting) IT'S NORMAL. THEY ALL DO THAT. IT'LL BE FINE!. (After warranty expires): Boy, you're in a heap 'o trouble! You can just sell a kidney on Craigslist to pay for repairs!
@@bigdaddyshouse Yes I just had it at dealership and they replaced 16 lifters and push rods but I still have the lifter noise and now they somehow took away the mean Hemi Original Roar of the engine and they also took away the engine’s power performance 😔 its very very sad!
Hey Lori, I would drive it right back to that stealership and tell them they need to replace the cam too. Replacing lifters and push rods is literally just the minimum, if there was no cam damage. But more so than not there's almost always cam damage.
@@bigdaddyshouse Thanks for replying. Yes they said no cam damage was done, but whole thing was very shady & they actually did damage to my truck inside & out. It’s a 2018 Limited 13,600 miles now. So, I will be reporting them and taking it to another dealership! I believe I figured out the issue with not Having the original Hemi Roar & the decline in power and I think I got both back, but still have the lifter tick.
@@bigdaddyshouse not enough oil from the poor design, she started rattling the other day. I thought it was exhaust manifold gasket at first, almost positive it's the camshaft issue now. Just had gotten the truck paid off too. Totally sucks. It's had a lot of idle time, because of running the ac for my dog. I think I'm done with ram for good. Might just lease a chevy Silverado. At a loss of what to do tbh.
Same problem I had and it seems like for thousands and thousands of RAM owners. Have you decided how you're going to proceed with the fix or if you're going to fix it at all?
@@bigdaddyshouse my 2nd and last dodge. Going to get a toyota with 247k on it, sad thing is i trust that more than a ram with 150k. Ram customer care only said to keep the receipts for possible future refund🤣🤣🤣🤣, if i put a new motor in it. They would go into bankruptcy if they actually stood behind that motor. I'm tempted to make a video about it, to warn others as well. They should man up and take care of people.
Hey TJ, great question. So a lot of guys in the Rams forum have this happen on cold start. Especially if it's been sitting for a bit. after startup trying to get the oil to shoot to the right places takes about 2 seconds. Now is metal on metal banging around a good thing? No. Should you be super worried about it at 100 km? Meah. If you're honestly really in love with the truck, just make sure you get that powertrain warranty, so you don't have anything to worry about. And use Redline full synthetic oil. All in all, if you're looking for real advice, listen to yourself brother. Do you feel like this is the truck for you? It's clearly giving you qualms. so maybe not jump on this deal and wait for something better..... You really should just listen to your gut. It is pretty much a brand new truck, so everything's going to be covered under warranty. Damn I feel like I'm talking way too much lol.
@@bigdaddyshouse thanks for the prompt reply. Yea im absolutely in love with it but im pretty picky when spending that kind of money. Im gonna think about the decision a bit longer. Thank you for your input.
Sorry brother, Even the classics are plugged with this. My advice is always run Redline oil, full synthetic of course and get that extended warranty from the dealership! Thanks for watching and your support man
Man that sucks now I'm worried. Thanks for the reply I'm currently running Amsoil full synthetic in it right now I've actually never heard of Redline oil maybe my next oil change I'll put that in it.
devildog 7 Amsoil is fine although I believe dodge recommends Pennzoil. I do believe this issue has been fixed on the newer engines, dodge isn’t going to say that though because that would imply something was wrong with the older engines.
You're right Stone, this is what was implied by Chrysler. I guess we will know the truth soon enough, once these engines have a few hours on them......
Hey Robert, I hate this for you and anybody that happens to. since I have done these series of videos, it is astounding to me how many people this has happened to . Have you taken it to a mechanic to get a diagnosis?
I've read stuff on forums alluding to the fact that they made some changes without admitting there was a problem. I guess whether they made changes or not, will we'll see soon enough when these late 4th and 5th gen trucks get some miles on them...... I might just ask that question in the Rams forum. Now you got me curious lol
