Shri Hemkund Sahib is one of the holiest pilgrimage sites for the Sikhs. Situated at a height of 15,200 feet beside a glacial lake surrounded by seven mountain peaks, each adorned by a Nishan Sahib, the Hemkund Sahib Gurudwara is the highest Gurudwara in the world.
In order to reach Shri Hemkund Sahib, one must reach Ghangaria, a small hamlet situated at the height of 3050m, from Govindghat, after doing a trek of 14 km along the river banks of first Laxman Ganga and later Bhyundar or Pushpawati rivers. From Ghangaria it is a trek of around 6 Km one way to reach Hemkund Sahib.
