Me, I believe that painting and drawing are the same thing. Drawing is a painting done in a simpler way [or with ‘limited/reduced resources’]. On a white surface, a sheet of paper, with a plume and some ink, one creates a certain contrast with volumes; one can change the quality of the paper given supple surfaces, light (or clear) surfaces, hard surfaces without always adding shadow or light. For me, painting is drawing in a simpler way [or with limited resources]. - Thank you Karen and Mary
@@byattwurns1553 thanks for your thoughts. It is a matter of semantics perhaps. Pastels (soft and.oil) have been spoken about as paintings. Many dry mediums (pigments) are held together with some sort of binder. The "me" part of the comment was a belief I hold and I respect others thoughts as well. Thanks.
For those of you who do not understand French: "I believe that drawing and painting are the same thing. For me, drawing is painting with a meager needle."

I usually prefer academic realism but the vibrant colors on clean white backgrounds in Matisse's paintings are strikingly amazing also his paintings are not too modern or abstract , so not subject to personal interpretations.
Oui.
@zimmy81 With any master if you want to see work that some would call skillful from a technical level look at their early work. Matisse 1890-97. After, an artist can feel free to explore their creativity without exception. Matisse was a master in the truest form of the word.
Where's the rest of the video. I read a paper on this, and i saw images of the stages of this. I know how he's supposed to keep going on with a few more stages for this drawing. Could you please post it?
@zimmy81 I am sure that Matisse would be flattered that you compared him to God. The fact of the matter is that this is so vastly complex that is just looks simple. How about that man who spent his life doing this E=MC²? Sure it looks simple on paper but what did it take to get there and how vastly complex is it? I can understand the basic idea but I will never grasp it's full meaning of what it meant to Einstine. What it is that you are looking at is not what you are seeing.
I'm so sorry -I meant *me*. I Intended "monoglot" as an ironic, self-deprecating antithesis to "polymath". I'm a dick, but I'm not that big a dick. ;-)
@zimmy81 No Zimquats plz don't take this the wrong way as I am not offended by you in the least. I think you represent 99.9 percent of the viewpoints of the subject. And I would agree that defending this to anyone is futile, but it's not clever artspeak. It's really what I think, my personal viewpoint. van Gogh died unknown and penniless. Proven time and time again the public at large can't see what others can and we shouldn't expect them to.
@zimmy81 Then perhaps you are not qualified to 'judge,' what you are looking at. Have you considered that? If the world regards this man as a Master in his time do you really think the world is wrong and you are right? It is very common for people with no formal training in art to think they can understand art just because they can see it. But can you understand an Astrophysicists equations written on a chalk board just because you can see it? Both are the highest levels of human intellect.
