Life comes at all of us differently. Some people use their situation as an excuse and others use it to fuel their fire. Henry hails from Minnesota, where he found skateboarding as an escape. Henry’s skateboarding has now brought him to Los Angeles with some of the top sponsors in the game, but the road wasn’t necessarily easy. This is Henry Gartland’s True Grit.

I was working skatecamp with henry when he did the ollie over the cone into the bank and ruptured his spleen. It was so gnarly and he made it look like it was nothing. Toughest dude ive met in a long time.

RIP to the young man. I don't want to speculate because who knows how he suffering, but it was interesting the people close to him said he was known for taking a lot of bails. The guys take a lot of bumps over the years. I wouldn't be surprised if some of their brainscans were looking like American Football players with CTE with the constant years of abuse their bodies go through.

Minute 2:06 almost made me cry. I always liked him and his skating since I learned about him a year ago or so an never thaught he suffered that hard. I´m stuggeling with depression by myself and that made me think about it even more but made me at the same time go out to skate for the second in a month after another "pause", even though my muscles were hurting. And it was worth it. Thank you Henry for your life and for sharing awesome moments with us. Greeting from Berlin

Henry is a damn inspiration. If you set your mind to it, if you love it, have the patience, passion, dedication, perseverence and persistance to do it then you can learn and accomplish anything. Love you dude! Stay awesome, keep up the amazing work and always be yourself. Keep on shredding. Edit: Calling some one a natural takes away from the hard work and dedication. I do not believe in "naturaltalent", I only believe in hard work and using your mindseye and previous skills to your advantage. To quote Bob Ross -"Talent is persued passion".
