Nice looking rifle! My wife bought me the Henry Evil Roy Carbine last year for my 40th birthday! LOVE it!....hope it's the first of many Henry Rifles to be added to my collection! Enjoyed the video as always sir!
Nice! I've been tossing around the idea of picking one up in 45-70, that way it'd be legal for deer hunting in Ohio. You ever do the factory tour? Do they even offer one? Thanks for the compliment and thanks for watching Rusty!
I've got a Golden Boy, and also one of their blued large loop levers, both in 22LR. They are keepers, and something that you will be proud to pass down to your family. Excellent guns.
Nice shooting rifle and good looking. Henry also makes two models with Skinner peep sights. Can't beat Henry, esp. for the money. The next best lever rimfire (some might say the best?) is the Browning BL-22 but you'll pay more money and it's made in Japan. Very informative and thanks.
I bought a Henry Small Game Carbine, and I really love it. It is difficult to give it a good cleaning when it gets real dirty. The rimfire Henry's meet a certain price point AKA ZYMACK 5 and other other cast parts (along with some nylon parts in the action). It does have a very smooth action and the company stands behind their products. I am getting ready to purchase side gate loader centerfire lever gun from them. With all that said, IMHO, the best American made 22 lr lever gun is the Marlin 39A. Of course these lever guns are special order from the custom shop and priced over $3,000 now. The 39A is an old design, it has no nylon or ZYMACK 5 parts. The rifle comes apart by one big knurled screw, and is ready for cleaning. Ruger bought Marlin, so maybe they will bring out the 39A in the fall as a standard production gun at a lower price, but it will never be as low as the Henry. I have a 39A Mountie and 39A rifle that I bought used which are superb 22lr lever guns. Lots of forged and real metal parts, and when you disassemble it for cleaning, you have two main assemblies, the large knurled screw is captured it the back part of the receiver. No star washers or six screws to contend with, in fact you can use a quarter to unscrew the takedown screw. Recently at the ranged, I had to disassemble a Henry lever in 22 WMR that a loaded cartridge had jammed in the receiver, it made me appreciate the Marlin design.
I've seen a lot of really nice guns that are just too far out of my price range, I might pick up one of the larger caliber Henry rifles for myself someday. I hope whoever bought the Remington ammo line continues the Thunderbolt bulk boxes of ammo. Not the best .22s ammo but I've had very few issues with them. Thanks for watching!
@@SmallCaliberArmsReview I always enjoy your videos, I would never pay the $3K for a 39a. I was fortunate to pick up my 39As used for less than $200 each. Of course they were abused and beat up, but they do function fine. I use a lot of bulk Golden Bullets which work great for plinking. I find the subsonic Aguila, or any good standard velocity ammo always group better than hyper velocity ammo. Maybe Ruger will come out with with a modern production method of the 39A and bring the price down. I hope you get a chance to inspect and shoot a 39A, and you will understand why I think the Marlin 39A is the best American made lever action 22 but not the cheapest.
I'm glad he mentioned heirloom, a rifle you can pass on. Other reviewers have said otherwise. Not heirloom quality, they said, unlike the Winchester 9422 and Marlin 39a. In fact, anything well cared for can be a heirloom, the Golden Boy included.
I've seen a lot of abused firearms and a lot of them that have been well cared for, some higher end stuff and some cheaper ones. It all depends on the care taken. Thanks for watching!
Good review and a nice piece of hardware Richard. I purchased the H001TSPR Frontier model last spring. It has the octagon barrel but it is threaded, that's why I went for that model. I need the threaded barrel for shooting suppressed. The drawback is the shorter magazine tube but it's not a big deal. They are nice quality machines. I bought the Rossi for my grandkids to start out with and there is no comparison. But, that goes for the price also. Good stuff, keep 'um comin'. Always enjoy them. JimE PS: Have you ever reviewed the CMMG AR15 22 conversion kit?
I have never really looked into the Henry rifles much, I bought this one for my daughters birthday many years ago because she liked it. I didn't even know the made a threaded barrel version! I have seen the CMMG conversion kits but I never bought one just because I have a dedicated .22 AR, The S&W M&P 15/22. Thanks for commenting and watching Jim!
@@SmallCaliberArmsReview I too did not know they had a threaded version. I wanted one so one day I decided to look on their website, wow........ there it was. At 77 I am not fond of the brass bead front sight but a little dab of paint helped me see it and can be removed easily. I too have dedicated AR15 22's but I thought the conversion kit looked interesting. Especially if Chameleon Harris comes for my 223/556. See ya.
Be careful when you put the screws back in the receiver cover. I've got a Golden Boy and a small game rifle and had to send back both of them (one of them went back twice) back to Henry because of striped screw threads. You're working with relatively soft metal (a zinc alloy), not steel.
I scoped mine cause the lookers don't work too good anymore. this makes it interesting getting the receiver cover off and on. Have you done one with a scope?
Nice review of a great .22 rifle. Now I'm wondering if this is another case of "I got this for my daughter"...but dad shoots it the most. I've bought a couple "for my wife"...that she may actually get to shoot some day. :-)
She does, I just happen to clean a firearm every time I use them, even if it's not needed. In this case I cleaned it before I used it, mostly to familiarize myself with how it comes apart (it had been a while since I shot it), I did leave it for her to clean when I finished this video! Lol, Thanks for watching!
@@crawwwfishh3284 that's just weird, I've used it on my daughter's Golden boy and a few of my revolvers without any problems. I wonder if there's an issue with your Henry's finish.
@@SmallCaliberArmsReview Bought that Henry new at Wally World. Cleaned it with a rag I had sprayed with Remington oil. Man it looks awful. I called Henry twice. Told them what happened. They said both times they would have a tech person call me. They never called. The brass faded to a yellow color.
