Great video! Interestingly, Henry II was the first King of English to be descended from both the Normans and the original Anglo-Saxon kings; his maternal grandmother was a great-granddaughter of Edmund Ironside
Interesting how you didn’t bring up the foundation of Common Law once in a video about Henry II. Unfortunately, this video makes the fatal error of concentration heavily on the Becket affair which, as Henry’s greatest biographer W.L. Warren points out, has less bearing on his actual reign. Nicholas Vincent has written how little power Henry effectively lost in the affair and it’s great disservice to the greatest English medieval monarch to concentrate so heavily on it.

Ok the fact the kid got paid off by the king not as a way for him to stop the raid because it had already failed but out of pity. That is a lot of restraint for a young king who had just been attacked verry interesting. Then makes a dead to make his enemy king after his death which he probably thought would be many years off and could deal with it later no dought but ended up dying at 25 from a stomach illness just wow that's one for the movies. I am making my way through your videos I love them detailed but somehow short and sweet. I was playing some CK3 and was looking into the verry unheard of king I was playing and long and behold you had a video of him and now here I am lol.
Even though I am south American, I descend from Henry II, Genealogy is very interesting !!! And found a lot of queens and other kings, amongst my ancestors , Europe! Very nice video!
