Lever guns with box magazines are outstanding! I own 3 Winchester Model 95s and a Savage Model 99. They are great! You can use any bullet, for handloading you can seat the bullets as you choose (no need to crimp) and use much more effective cartridges like .30-06, .300 Savage, .308, etc. Were I in the market for a new lever gun today, this would be one of my top choices. I think Henry did it better than Browning, actually.

I brought one of these a couple years ago. Shoots almost as good as my tikka bolt. Shot my buck with it. Awesome gun.

Great review. Im in Australia and got one in 308. Honestly this is a well built rifle for carrying. I developed a load the same as my precision rifles and believe me these things shoot accurately which was a surprise if you spend the time with load development. Mine will place 5 shots at 100 for group at 3/4" It liked the nosler 160gr BT seated .050 from the lands with enough space to feed reliably from the mag. Great lever gun. As for the negatives on the aluminium receiver, I've got no idea what that's about. Its as strong as they come.

Recently bought 2 loneranger's in 6.5 creedmoor, 1 for my military son and one for myself, beautiful rifles, pros-very smooth lever action, easy use magazine, extremely accurate rifle once sighted in, con - trigger pull is somewhat on the heavy side, id estimate it somewhere between 5-7 lbs and there is no adjustment, possibly some polishing and lots of use may help,this takes some time getting use to, still even with that 1 con we both love this rifle.

Aside from the wind...looked like a great day to be out at the range!

A three inch group with new ammo, scope and gun with that wind is very acceptable. The thin wrist stocks are hard to hold for perfect shot to shot position. I would put in the 180 rain loads and feel confident with that rifle out to 225 yards for deer size targets. Anything close is neck shot toast! Good job.

Nice range, I have a number of 308 lever actions and love them. But I would spend my money on a nice bolt action rifle first.

Awesome review, after waiting 5 months I finally received my Henry Long Ranger chambered in .243 Win. My Long Ranger has the sights just like yours and I would like to mount a scope just like you have. I will be mounting a EGW Picatinny Rail and I was wonder what size scope rings I should buy. Do the scope rings come in different heights? With the sights on the gun what size rings should I buy?

My goodness. That wind was absolutely brutal. Certainly a “worst case” scenario.

Excellant groups shooting into the wind,,hand assisted front rest,,guessing a low power(3-9) scope which the crosshairs take up an moa…..

I have to take a shooting test before the season begins every year and that is at 100 meter range, is the original barrel on a 308 good enough for this? Or would a longer barrel ne better

I like the rifle very much, I would like a 10 round and a 15 round magazine for self defense too. Would it be possible for a manganese bronze receiver, that I would like it a lot or case hardening receiver.

I know this video is a couple of years old, but at 1:59 were you having difficulty decocking the hammer? I have a Long Ranger in .308 and noticed that when I first got it. It caught my attention when it looked like you struggled with it too. Mine seems to have broken in now and isn't really an issue anymore (I spent hours working it one day). But at first, I couldn't put any backward pressure on the hammer when releasing it with the trigger. Just had to sit my thumb in front of the hammer and catch it-which was different than what I was used to with other lever actions. Even now, it seems happiest when the lever is gripped tightly and thus holding the bolt firmly in place when letting the hammer down. Anyway, enjoyed this video and think the Long Ranger is a great gun.

For a wind like that those groups were entirely respectable. More than adequate hunting accuracy. Any hunter with the Henry in their hands would be well equipped. It will be interesting to see results with less wind.

Those groups were plenty good to kill a deer. Man, that Henry is a beauty! great video.

How about a video shooting this gun the way it was meant to be shot: as a hunting gun at moving targets (like deer running in front of the dogs) preferably with the iron sights.

It is too bad they made the receiver out of aluminum. I do not like it when companies do that and then lock the bolt in the barrel. A lot of European companies have done that for decades and Browning as well. I do not own any of them for that reason. Thanks for sharing though! I won't spend $500 let alone $700+ for anything that has a lot of plastic or aluminum in it.

I like idea of my Henry's better than the reality of them. Honestly I prefer my Remlins over my Henry's. I only have 4 Rem Marlins, a bunch of JM Marlin and 6 Henry's for comparison. Also have savage 99s and BLRs, Belgium and newer. Must be personal preference, 22lr golden boy is the best Henry I have, the other 3 have all been back for foreend replacement, the 44 mag multiple times. I will buy another Henry though

That’s probably is about right for that amo. Hornady is much more accurate

Why would anyone do an accuracy review in a howling wind? The shooting technique is horrible for accuracy. There's no way anyone could truly zero this rifle in that wind. Sorry Henry, no aluminum allowed in any rifle I am shooting.
