Nope it was a flaky paint job and lots of old greae and grime, all machined surfaces were brown but thankfully no deep rust just surface , maybe mid bruswick green and thankfully with age it was easy to scrape off I forgot to mention all except 1 casting was original this machine, all stamped with a casting No "7" apart from the horizontal slide which is a badly stamped 288

Very interesting, I've never had the opportunity to have a close look at a planer, I'm a bit more enlightened now. That's a big work area on the table, considering it's only a small machine. Fully agree that it would be nice to motorise it. I have a small shaper, and on the rare occasions I use it, it's nice to just sit back and watch it doing its stuff, fascinating. I've no experience of rust convertor, so can't advise whether it's good, bad or indifferent. Thanks for posting this video.

I think the holes on either side of the clapper are to lock it. Rustinox explained in one of his videos that there are times when you don't want the clapper moving because it would be dragging over a finished piece of the metal. My guess is that if you were cleaning up the block by going down the side you would want the clapper locked so it wouldn't drag across the finished part. But I don't own a shaper so I could be entirely wrong.

Thanks mate for the good points, a friend who watched this mentioned when using a shaper or planer to make splines or mostly keyways you also can lock the clapper box so it forces the tool to stay in the channel.

Hello Mark, What a great machine... Saved eBay search already setup as I would love one for my workshop... Have you still got the Bormilathe? Take care. Paul,,

Thanks Paul, yeah I've still got the bormilathe, I havn't done any work on it for some time though and it's been pushed to the side of a bench for a few weeks to make space for an Atlas MFC, that is waiting for a few parts and the royal mail strikes plus Christmas period are holding the deliveries back :/ I havn't given up on the bormilathe, I've just been distracted with other stuff and recent lack of space, that end towel is covering a Pultra P I had to move out of the way lol

Hello, I've just picked my self one of these up. Unfortunately it's not complete, nothing major I guess just afew missing nuts, bolts, drive handle and perhaps some auto feed components. Mine is different to yours in that the bullgear shaft has treads at each end with a key way to bolt the handle on and the shaft is way shorter than yours. I'll be posting a little video on my channel later today asking for some help with reference photos and any drawings. I dont suppose you would be kind enough to take a few photos of yours at and send them too me? Particularly of the auto feed components cheers
