Tour ( Lathe ) d'horloger ( watchmaker ) burin ( Chisel ) fixe ( fixed )
This lathe dates to between early 18th century to mid 19th century and was in a heavily tarnished state, I stripped it down and cleaned it up plus made a few minor parts for it to replace worn or broken parts.
new parts made or replaced were a few screws where the heads were damaged, new springs for the faceplate clamps as the originals were corroded, plus new wood handles which I decided to make out of Ebony with blind holes.
the original shafts I was happy to see were original, no nice cold rolled steel back then, they were forged and then the threads files to diameter and cut! , I replaced with new inside the wood handles I turned but I'll have a box to keep with the lathe holding all the original parts not used ( which there are few )
.
the spindles center pin lever was also too long so I made a small bush so the plate and pin can be locked in place.
