Heads up to any new owners of this weapon. Take care when you pull the lever out and remove the bolt. The extractor is pinned from the inside out to the left side of the receiver. It will rattle and fall out just be ready to catch it when it drops. It's not so hard to put back in. If you look at the left side of the receiver when the action is closed you can see where the pin is located. Also if your new to side gates there is a trick to loading it and not getting your thumb pinched. Push the round in to the rim then push another in to load and repeat. When you get good at this you can reload the magazine very quickly. Thanks Jay for letting me ramble. Great Post.
Enjoyed the shooting video. Somehow I landed on the 44mag round and after much success hunting deer- have no reason to switch. Own both the Henry Big Boy Steel and Big Boy Classic in 44mag. Next on the list would probably the single shot. I liked seeing the Winchester being shot too; but my eyes prefer a gun I can put a scope on.
LOL, this is exactly how I ended up with a Henry X in 44 Magnum. I went into the LGS I frequent most, but is still 30 mins away. So I only tend to go into it, when 'in the area'. Plus, it was the height of cough cough, shortages of guns. So, I didn't have high expectations. Mind you, when it comes to my pistol caliber rifles, I ALWAYS have a handgun to pair with it, or I get one to go with it. Had zero anything in 44 Mag. HOWEVER, I had been wanting and looking for a 44 Mag, or 454 Casull revolver as a woods backup gun, for awhile. But, again, cough cough times. So, in the store, I see the Henry used for, specially considering the time and shortages, a great price. And, to make matters better, they also had a Smith and Wesson Model 69 Combat Magnum in 44 mag, with my desired 4" barrel. It had been one of my options. I also knew, if I came back the next day, one or both could easily be gone. Heck, I found out later, that someone had went home to get their credit card, to come back for the Henry. He showed up, as I was filling out the 4473s. Happy, NOW, because I really like this Henry X. Favorite of my 4 Lever action rifles, that include an older mossberg, older marlin, and 2 other Henrys .
@@SmoknJaysGarage I have had lucky timing at that shop Found my 44 all matching numbers M1 Garand there, for a price that would make a lot of folks jealous lol.
Got a big boy classic .357 and was lucky enough to snag a model x .44mag last week for below retail. Shot it yesterday for the first time and man, I haven’t had that much fun shooting in a very long time. Simply blown away. Saw a Marlin 44.mag from the 70s today and was about to give him an offer on it until I picked it up and compared it to the Henry. I love everything about older guns?but the henry is hard to beat. If only Henry would restock their parts inventory to convert it to wood furniture…
Okay okay I love the option of the can. I chose the compinsastor available at Henry Pride. I like the compensator it works well and looks kool on The Henry BB .44 Mag X.
I've been looking for a few months to get a Henry X .44 or .357. Finally found a .44 mag last night, so grabbed it immediately. Now hopefully I can find ammo for it.......
Congratulations. I think you're going to like it. I have been having trouble finding ammo as well. You might check the Wisconsin Cartridge Company. Last I looked, they had .44Mag, but it wasn't cheap.
I'm sure you found ammo about now. Even in Texas they are hard to find. I got mine from EGUNCO from Paris, KY. Bought the HSM Cowboy Action .44 S&W.... Decent prices....
Your first target is what mine look like as well, but mine look that way because I like to point and use the whole target. Any good shooter can hit the center. It takes a great markman to transfer site picture with a lever action rifle and hit many points aimed at the target. Just saying. The sites on this rifle make that super easy. I did put an aftermarket red dot w/laser on mine. Just could not resist and I did put the flashlight light on the provided pic rail. This is an awesome rifle and if you can find one buy it right away don't pass it buy!
@@SmoknJaysGarage First time owner of a lever action of any kind and I was very impressed. Always wanted one since I was 9 years old as a neighbor had a Red Rider BB gun. No kidding, I was not exaggerating when I said everyone wanted to fire it at the range. Love this weapon so much I'm also looking for either the Big Henry X .357 or 45-70.
@@victoryeneydad9199I think 44mag is better, because its much cheaper to find ammo & compenets. Just in primers, you hand load with large pistol primers vs the non existent large rifle primers for over 3 years now. If primers weren't so hard to find I would consider them equal but a gun is dead weight without ammo. 44mag is just strong enough todo everything you want. That bring said a henry in 460 magnum would be sweet
I'll pick the HENRY over the winchester, winchester is now made in turkey, no longer an AMERICAN! SAD day in America when that happened. Noticed the lower case lettering for winchester.
I've always been a Winchester fan. But you're right, leaving America probably wasn't their best move. And companies like Henry are making awesome firearms in America.
It was very close. But I think the Henry is a bit more accurate. Or perhaps I was just better with it. The peep sight on the Henry makes it easier, for me anyway.
I was researching lever actions before I got my Henry X .357 and Winchesters website says not to shoot 44 special and 38 special in their lever actions. Not sure why.
@@MartianBuddy I haven't had a chance to shoot the .357 yet. If I had to pick only one, I'd probably say the .357 because I don't hunt and ammo is cheaper and easier to find. If I hunted, or ammo was available and the same price, I'd say the .44. Because the .44 Mag is just so badass.
i have been debating for days now if i should get the 357 or 44 mag big boy X, i bought a classic .22 just to get used to a lever acction without spending much in ammo, but i need to decide on a caliber for hunting whitetail deer and fun shooting for the rest of the year. i have a 9mm sidearm so i think i should get the 44 mag. do you have any suggestion to help choose, or am i over thinking/researching this whole thing?
I liked the .44 mag so much I bought the .357 and .45-70 as well. 44 has more power for hunting, but 357 is cheaper to shoot. I'd probably go with whichever you plan to do more, Hunt or shoot for fun.
Hi, i just watched your video and im in the same situation as you. 44mag vs 45-70 all weather. I want a survial rifle, i can reload and do just about everything. Human nature tells me bigger is better. But after playing with both ALL things considered do you still feel 44mag better than 45-70?
So he got a gun (an EXCELLENT gun, by the way), even though he didn't WANT it--he knew he NEEDED it. That must really suck to get a gun you didn't really want.....🤨
@@SmoknJaysGarage I hope you enjoy them all. Henrys are excellent quality firearms backed by a 100% lifetime guarantee. I have 30+ Henrys right now. Haven't shot them all, but I do love them all.👍❤️🇺🇸
@@SmoknJaysGarage Well, I have to shut it completely down next year as I spent waaaaay too much this year, just on Henrys!! But I'm keepin every dang one of them!! 😉👍
