When I was little, this was the theme for the afternoon drive-time program on our local classical-music station, so I called it “Daddy’s office music” because it played when he was coming home from work. Thanks for bringing up that memory - and for a glorious performance.

It's about time Henry Purcell got his dues. Always overshadowed by his German counterparts, yet every bit their equal.

A wonderful rendition with great acoustics. Also, the tempo was comfortable, not hurried, as is often the case in many contemporary baroque performances.

I've been completely obsessed with this piece (and Benjamin Britten's Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra) ever since I heard them for the first time in my music's classroom, about 12 years ago, when I was just 10 or 11 years old. I must have heard hundreds of pieces in those 2 years of musical education in school, but these 2 pieces really engraved themselves in my mind.

Purcell would be proud with this performance!👌

I liked this as a child when it was the theme tune to a BBC costume drama called "The First Churchills" about the Duke and Duchess of Marlborough. (That gives my age away!) This is a really good setting of it.

This sing featured in my 2018 gcse music exam. Even though it was only two years ago it is mental how music just encapsulates specific memories. Its like whenever I hear this it just throws me back into my music exam as if everything I have done since that exam was just a dream. When I listen to this I tend to remember specific aspects of my life back in 2018 that I cant without listening. The power of music is very real.

One of Purcell’s last works, the play was staged in 1695, the year of Purcell's death, and the text of the play was written Aphra Behn. The Rondeau’s place in history was assured when the composer Benjamin Britten chose it for his Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra: Variations and Fugue on a Theme of Purcell (1946). After Purcell's death, his wife Frances gathered much of his unpublished works, and these were printed as “A collection of ayres, compos'd for the theatre and upon other occasions .” Henry Purcell (10 September 1659 - 21 November 1695), was an English composer. This is very nearly 8 bar phrasing - standard fare in Mozart's time, yet it still feels so asymmetric. Bravo, Purcell & ye!

Rondeau has always been my earworm. I have listened to a good number of renditions and I can tell this is the best! Not too loud and not too soft. Very exquisite!!
