Many great artists lived that way, especially the musicians. They endure much suffering in their lives in order to convey emotions in abstract form. Artists eventually embrace their suffering because it is the source of their creation. Beethoven went nuts and deaf after an abusive childhood, Mozart was a gambler alcoholic in debt robbed of a playful childhood, Chopin was bipolar and emotional wreck, and JSB had botched baroque eye surgery that left him blind. Tis the journey of the artist.

I have watched this over a 100 times or more. Vivaldi's Winter. Kittens meowing by the fire. A dangerous walk on the ice to gather wood. A classic car chase and perhaps a murder in in the dark of night. The cold revenge of Winter. The music and visuals are so good!

I've heard a lot of Vivaldi's Winter, but Mrs. Cynthia definitely tops the hat. The sparse opening is usually played with too much force, making the violin crunch a lot, but she managed to rope out such power without being too massive on the strings, which is amazing because the clarity and the strength of the music sounds just like the cold itself. It's amazing that she made all the harsh sounds of winter so effortless, while keeping emotions on the warm part of the music. And definitely I bow and commend the final movement where she lets all the emotions out, truly amazing, this is literally (and most probably) the hundred time I repeated this recording already. Thank you VoM for recording this masterpiece!!!

Hey there, sorry to interject, i'm a newbie in classical music, and even if this interpretation give me the chills and the tears by his beauty i still prefer Mari Samuelsen's version...i'm i wrong somewhere? I don't understand all the technique behind the violin, it just trigger my soul that's why i love it.
@VoicesofMusic
@VoicesofMusic 3 года назад
Mari's version is totally great, and in art whether it is music or painting one can go into a room and have a favorite painting or artists. There's a subtle factor here which is the baroque violin is really different from the modern violin, as they are separated by three hundred years of development, so in a way it;s like comparing a piano to an electric piano, they are both cool, but they require different techniques. And each performance reveals something interesting about the music. One of the differences is the bow. The baroque bow--and the player--shapes each phrase as an arc instead of sustaining the music lines all the way to the end. This creates a harmonic space for the other instruments in the orchestra to interact with the soloist so it is more of a music conversation than prepared remarks. This also allows for improvisation, which you see in baroque music and in Jazz, but not, typically, in a modern performance. So there are differences.

There are dozens, if not hundreds, of Vivaldi performances in the wonderful word of RU-vid. However - THIS performance is BY FAR the best in my humble opinion. I listen to this video as well as Summer at least four or five times a day. Such a masterful performance all around. A standing ovation!! Bravo!!! Bravissimoooo! 🙏

Reflecting on my childhood, I recall my dad's fondness for classical music, which I couldn't appreciate back then-it just didn't resonate with my definition of 'cool.' years later, my tastes have matured, and after 304 years I can truly say this music is timeless and exhilarating!
