For me this immensely civilized music is anodyne for our era of pandemic, war, and social fragmentation. We are fortunate to have it at our fingertips.

John Karkalis...yes indeed ...set a tragic template for Mozart and Schubert. Such majesty and delicacy combined .

Why I no longer derive satisfaction from listening to this?

The painting reminds me that Godfrey Kneller had a brother Andreas Kneller who was a composer but sadly very few of his works survived to this day.
