Black flag was fuckin horrible, no talent idiots at there best , Rollins has NO CREDIBILITY AS A MUSICIAN OR SINGER , HE JUST TALKS SHIT AND WONT GO AWAY
I saw KISS and Def Leppard in Scranton PA this summer and Paul said "Scranton" so many times it started to feel like a bad episode of The Office. My wife and I decided to take a drink every time he said it, but had to quit because our livers began to protest and brain damage was becoming a real danger, as was bankruptcy due to the $25 cans of beer. It was an awesome show
***** woah, no way! I used a Groupon! Seriously, I see a lot of shows each year, both new and old bands, and many genres. The classics usually put on the best shows, so don't knock it too hard. Def Leppard was freaking amazing by the way.
I'm not the biggest KISS fan - they do have some decent songs, but c'mon Henry: you're really gonna bag on 'Detroit Rock City' ? That is a killer , timeless song - Black Flag & Rollins Band have never written anything that comes close to that level of popularity.... (*cue all the tough guy / "I'm a punk!" / "Indie Rock 4ever!" / "corporate rock sucks!" / "fuck dinosaur rock!" - comments*)
+hazor777 I agree with you and Rollins was just the singer of Black Flag anyway, not even an original member. He has never done anything that compare to KISS, Nugent, or any successful band.
+gothamjediknight But he still has his dignity. He's not an old closet case in a wig. He's never done a disco song. Kiss is for people who never grew up. He wasn't an original member of Black Flag ? Yes, but you don't know who the first singer was... or Henry's adoration of Black Flag and how he got the gig. Rather listen to Rollins in any form anytime than two original moneygrubbing members with crap facelifts trying to get a football team off the ground. Gross.
klimtklavier awwwww......look who got their feelings hurt.... :(,,,,,,,,, So dude, does KISS really "suck ass everyday" ? You mean they don't take any holidays off from sucking ass? I know Gene & Paul are Jewish, so they at least have to stop sucking ass for Hanuka , right? If not,....then that's a lot of ass sucking!! Haha! WOW !! So,....is ass sucking something you know much about? C'mon -- I bet you know about it...you sure sound like you do, haha ! Fucking PISS ANT.
I could never hate anyone who is as honest, and open as Henry is. I disagree with him on a lot of shit, but unlike 99% of the dickheads on this mudball, he is genuine.
exactly! I only saw Kiss once (2008 Paris, Alive 35 tour), I felt that way the entire show. When Paul grabbed the wire to fly to the platform closer to the back row seats during Love Gun, I felt like he was looking right at me. Maybe he did for a brief moment hahah :D
I know nothing about Black Flag and very little about the punk rock genre. But I do know I could listen to Henry all day long! Dude is refreshingly learned, well read and intelligent.
I dont know Rollins music at all but the guy was actually really funny. His Stanley imitations are spot on and hysterical. "He won me over" (refering to Stanley) LOL
@wildcatter63 I'm not a fan of is solo music, but I love his spoken word stuff. His "Papa Don't Preach" story from back in the 80's is fucking awesome. My brother and I were into Rollins' era Black Flag. There's some Heavy Ass stuff there.
I seen Ted Nugent,Skid Row and Kiss on Kiss's farewell tour in 2000 when I was 10 years old. That was the first concert I went too and by far the best.
Honestly, agree with him or not, Ted Nugent is vastly superior intellectually than Rollins. If you ever notice, anyone that criticized Ted Nugent does it from a far distance....not because he would likely kick their ass (but he likely would) but because they cannot debate him. That tells me all I need to know. Put up or shut up. But they don’t. They just criticize. Hard to respect that. Debate the man publicly like adults and see what ideas and common ground can be forged...but nope....
@@Donjasoni critique doesnt work only on your terms. especially if its about someone so unlikeable most wouldnt even consider talking to him. like the bully in your office.
Henry, the reason rock bands yell out "how you all doin tonight CHICAGO!!!" or w/e city is it PERSONALIZES the experience. It lets everyone know that they appreciate the fans there that came out to see them!!!!
maybe, or more often because it gets a rise out of a room full of fools. puppets, er i mean people get excited and cheer and it makes the whole "experience" seem more exciting.
I don't like Nugent's political opinions but I must admit his musical talent and influence... I believe that Henry Rollins didn't care too much about making it great in music...Anybody who play hardcore punk knows that there's no big shows and wealthy careers there...
I just saw Slayer and they had Testament opening. Chuck Billy screamed, "How's it going on a Saturday night, [city you're in]?!" The audience started shitting their pants in pleasure.
Rollins rocks! He's done it all...hardcore, spoken word, acting, and now stand up. An awesome talent, and a great, open minded elder statesman of rock! And funny AF!
So many people get angry at Rollins but they all seem to forget..... he's telling a story from his point of view. The same way any one of us who would tell a story to a couple of friends at a bar. People are so offended so easily its truly disgusting. He recounts how Ted.... says such a ridiculous comment.... and his reaction to it. Yet people get so angry is insane .
Daniel Garcia ... that’s because Rollins ,or his band couldn’t play music for shit , I think they are in the same ilk as gangster rappers...jus sayin !
I dont get angry I just dot think Rollins is profound. and hes not funny. hes entitled to his opinion but he prances around like hes gods perfect edition
"My senility is gonna be bitching-think I'll start now." Thank you Henry, for having to choose between choking on my drink, or ruining my monitor by spitting it out in laughter.
I'd sure love to see Henry and Ted debating together! The one thing they have in common (besides being rockers) is they're both anti drug/alcohol and very outspoken and intense and quick witted, though Henry is way more progressive on social issues and just seems more enlightened. Don't agree with any of Nugent's politics and in recent years he's gone WAY overboard on a few things he's said, but I can't deny he's intelligent in his own way and definitely fascinating.
Oh he's a piece of shit don't get me wrong, but it'd be cool to see him and Henry talking face to face.(I'm sure Henry could kick his ass both physically and verbally too, lol).
Jim Busch I disagree. Sure he's not a huge celebrity the way he was circa 1991-1994 when he was all over MTV, but he still has a dedicated fanbase for his spoken word shows. Seems like at least some young people today still know/like him too.
The couple of times I've been out and about and happen to bump into Henry Rollins, he was super cool. He even initiated a picture when all I wanted was a hand shake. He never seemed arrogant, or withdrawn!
Good laugh! What is to remember, though, is that both Nugent and Kiss are master showmen, can rock with the best, and give their audience their money's worth times 10 every time out. You'll never see either Nugent or Kiss half assing it at any of their shows and Rollins pointed that out, with the comedy. It's all good.
Unfortunately since your comment 7 years ago Kiss did start using backing tracks for live shows (I think specifically for Paul's vocals since he's had trouble vocally. But who cares they've been past their prime live anyway for ages. Eric Singer is a good drummer, but they definitely needed Ace Frehley. They were never gonna top their original era). But hey they did so without for many years, so I'm not bust their balls too hard on that note. They should've hung it up (or taken some time off) before it came to that. I luckily got to see them live in 1996 with Frehley and Criss back in the fold. Great show : )
But yeah Kiss has had a widely sliding scale of quality control since after their first 4 or 5 albums. Those are mainly what I listen to with them, plus various songs later. I did like overall that Sonic Boom album, but still need to hear Monster. Not sure why I haven't yet. But yeah since he relaunched his solo career Ace Frehley has been kicking a ton of ass. All of those albums since have a ton of great stuff on them, so much fun to hear! And I believe he's got a new album coming soon : )
I saw this tour with Ted opening for KISS (Psych Circus tour). Ted really shot a bow at a guitar and did the rants between songs but otherwise delivered a great show. KISS was the spectacle they always were and didn't disappoint. Henry's description was pretty accurate.
+dkyelak KISS was one of the worst bands of their day, but perhaps some of the best performers ever. They managed to overcome their lack of talent with makeup, wardrobe, pyro, and special effects like spitting blood. How does it feel to be duped by a bunch of old Jewish businessmen?
Robert Frapples...typical verbal diarrhea from someone who thinks he's so much smarter than everyone else. Lack of talent blah blah blah...makeup blah blah blah...pyro blah blah blah...42 years and counting must make your excuses for why KISS sucks seem a little...old...
Nugent was a great showman ine the late 70's and 80's.. too bad he talks so much about politics ! but we cant take it away from him , he was of the best , and the double live gonzo has to be one album in your collection or the first ted nugent album !
Dancing Bear thats my dancing bear! Same one is tattooed on my butt cheeck! I also love henry rollins his story telling is very detailed and rich with his character....very amusing.
Yes, it's a shame that his politics have over shadowed that. I just love his wild ''gonzo'' music from his 70s peak. Some of his 90s, 00s stuff was good too. I also liked alot the two albums he did leading up to the start of his solo career. Call of The Wild and Tooth, Fang and Claw was the other one, I believe. They were both done with ever changing versions of his Amboy Dukes band mates. Rob Grange his later solo era bassist was on both of them. He was a badass and many don't know he came up with that monster bassline for Stranglehold.
4:55 there is a roillins interview with dennis miller where Rollins says "I cant hold a note" but rollins is doing pretty well here. Amazing his vocal cords are rested...
Maybe, but I don't think you'd do well in prison. It's his stage..he can say whatever the fk he wants, just as Rollins does. It's called 'free speech'...when I listen to Ted speak, it's refreshing, actually. Not cuz I agree with it all, but because he articulates his views very well, as Henry does...
Not fair how talented Mr. Henry Rollins is. Singer, publisher, writer, etc etc etc and stand up comedian. You are a renaissance man Mr. Henry Ronllins and I admire the skills.
I saw Ted Nugent at his peak in 1978, as one of the Headliners for the Texxas Jam in front of 80,000 in the Cotton Bowl. The thing was , the Cotton Bowl was big enough to host Ted's ego. It was Magical!! I saw KISS in '77 and later on their Maskless Tour when "Lick It Up" was out. I went on the strength of "Lick It Up" and was disapointed that that was about the only song that rocked like that. (Note: at that show, I was not drunk or stoned...)
Look man, while my politics might be more right than left, and while i like Ted Nugent's music a lot more than Henry's? I fuckin' agree with Henry here. (and let's face it, this is a guy that was a seminal part of true punk rock music, admitting, he liked these two bands. Pretty cool.)
+BubbaZen10 Near the beginning, Rollins himself praises Nugent's music, playing and performance - that's where Rolls hooked me in this clip. Because I also loved that kick-ass, flashy-fast, noodle-spinnin', motor-mouthin' schtick that made Gonzo's name way back in the 70s. But the purile gunk he now vomits outside his music act totally crosses the line between "entertainment" and "treason to the human race". Way to destroy a rock 'n roll legacy, Nuge. Way to destroy a rock 'n roll legacy.
Okay, so Henry seems to think that people can be neutral about Henry Rollins? This guy got older and just now figured out how f--ked up the world is and so now he needs someone to blame it all on. I like Nugent's music and his politics are not my concern.
BubbaZen10 While my political views lean more towards Teds than H.Rs Ted is a tool with his mind less banter. And Henry is a poser trying to make headway with the movie career so who is he to cast aspersions? Ted spouts his all American b.s.while forgetting to mention that he went to great lengths to dodge the draft. They both have their share of flies on them.
I saw Rollins play on the West Virginia side of the Ohio River in Huntington. He pointed over to Ohio and said I grew up a couple of hours south of here in DC. Keep those mountains clean West Virginia. So he has done the thing where he points out to the crowd where they are however he seriously needs to buy a map.
I worked security at a club about 15 years ago and Rollins Band played there one night. Everyone was happy to see him and were fans to an extent. Henry was so reclusive and didn’t want to talk to anyone. It was as if he was afraid (granted all of us on security were over 6 foot tall and 200+ lbs). We all were trying to be cool with him and let him know we were fans and appreciated him playing at such a small club in our little town. He barely acknowledged it and his basic response was “sure, whatever” which was uttered about half a dozen times. About 3 hours before the show he marches out of his bus demanding a dozen PawerBars and that the club manager himself personally drive him to the nearest full service gym. He was barking orders at everyone like he owned the place. He didn’t like how the bar area was set up and the fact we had couches set up along the wall at the back of the dance floor. When the show started he did his usual shtick and then proceeded to freak out on me and my boy Eric because we were on opposite sides of the stage to prevent stage diving (local ordinances “prohibited” it). After the show we asked if he needed help with the load out and he said “don’t touch our fucking gear”. We all just walked away. A little while later a few Hip Hop heads from a club a few blocks away made there way down. We were all cool with each other and we all started talking about how each of our shows went. One dude bumped one of the bands Marshalls and Henry was like “you security guys gonna do something?”. One of the security guys with us said, “No! You played, got payed and now you and your gear are out of the club. Our job is done”. He stormed into his bus and cried about it. We could hear him yelling outside. Henry’s a d-bag bullshitter. I lost all respect for him after that night. I’ve seen Nugent twice and I’d go to see him again if given a chance. I wouldn’t piss on Henry if he was on fire.
To all the people who love to rag n on this guy.Yeah hes a guy who got lucky and worked his ass off to get where he has come.He doesnt claim to have huge talent.Where you guys are dead wrong is he is quite the reader.More than you would actually believe. Its funny how you guys who get so insulted when he points out the Obvious.Nugent is great musician but just shoots from the hip without fact checking. In fact a lot of this country is so dumbed down by mass media they just take Nugent at his word like its gospel. I dont have to Parrot what the talking heads say when comes to the diatribes from the people on the right wing radio. We have become a nation of people who cant think for themselves or are even educated enough to understand what.
Explain why people like henry rollins go around saying others are (just place any trailer trash curse word here) because they say what they want on stage...and yet...right here in this very video...you see henry making his living doing the same thing. Sounds like a very familiar theme these days.
I seen Kiss and Nugent together 2x. Kiss has always been the best stage show in Rock. That year Alice in chains opened for a few shows, mercifully they booted them, The band played awesome, But Stan was so trashed out he couldn't move from the mic for a few songs, Hell the first night the drummer walked him to the mic, The second time, The seats was cheap, behind the stacks was more guitar players, Then I realized the opening act was BS all the way around
Are you saying that Alice in chains had guitarists off stage playing into the band's live mix..? That does make sense: Cantrell used to double track rhythms, then add the solo track, and umpteen overdubbed sounds: a totality of riffs and tones that was impossible to reproduce live anything close to the album with only one guitarist. And live his solos sound grating without the basic rhythm track at least.
Ryan Camp ridiculous. Hes a great, public speaker. There are tons of videos of him speaking in front an audience being typically smart (without being a douche about it) and hilarious. Just scroll the suggested videos below this one. Whats really sad is people that feel the need to comment negatively without any basis for it. How could you not notice all the videos of him talking in all kinds of forums and formats? Youre annoying. People like you make the internet suck. There are things in this world that deserve intelligent, informed criticism. Why not spend some time finding out what some of them are, and then comment on that? Make things better. Not worse
Yelling out the name of a city is cool. It's a bonding technique. A rock star from another part of the world is acknowledging the place he/she is in. It's good manners and good showmanship.
Can't help but "Double Live Gonzo" is still one of my all time favorite live albums along with "Frampton Comes Alive" and "Kiss Alive". Yeah Ted often says shitty things like typical pundits Rush Limbaugh or that skank-bag Ann Coulter so I just tune the man out when he starts his ranting. Otherwise I've enjoyed his playing like many others. It's no different than when I've heard Bono run his mouth on politics that I couldn't care less about and yet I enjoy his performance as an artist. Some of us enjoy your music, but not your politics. While I have no issue with an artist or musician stating their political views aloud to the public, since they have every right to do so, it's my right to tune them out or TURN THEM OFF!
