You did not listen.... Duff is the punk rocker in Guns n Roses, that's why GNR had and still has that "Punk Sensibility" GNR has different influences that make up the Band, and Punk Rock is one of them because of Duff.

I want to thank both of these amazing artist. Henry and Duff both have changed my life for the better. Specially GNR. The first time I heard them I became a big fan instantly. I never got bullied again in school . I started getting straight A's on all of my classes and thanks to GNR now I am Engineer. To all those people who told me I wouldn't amount to anything and that was including some of my teachers and even some professors in the university I prove them all wrong. And Henry Rollins also helped me get through some of my darkest moments, thank you so much Henry !!!!.. Axl you are a Rock God !!!!! Love you all of you guys.

You are missing the point brother and I'm sorry to say Appetite For Destruction was just that little bit different from other mainstream 'Rock Bands' releases,that is why it blew everyone else away at the time.HR even makes the point during this interview.
