Just because it's brass doesn't mean it can't join you in the deer stand. The H024-4570 is the perfect example of form not always having to give way to function. Choose to hunt with a Henry, and go ahead and make it brass.

I shot a Henry 45-70 a couple of weeks ago…. It was so much fun. Belongs to a good friend of mine…. Now I want one……

They are absolutely a BLAST! I have 3 of the 45-70 models (I don’t shoot my brass version, as it is a Bison Tribute). I shoot my color case hardened and X model 45-70 Henrys. H010CC and H010X models. The X model has awesome fiber optic sights. I blew up a watermelon at damn near 100 yards with it, shooting from lying on the ground, with ONE SHOT. I loaded one Hornady round through the side gate, aimed, fired, and then celebrated my little victory! If you do not yet have a Henry 45-70, GET ONE!!!😃👍🇺🇸

I love my brass Henry side gate 30-30. I harvested two deer last season. The Henry got plenty wet with some snow and rain and still looks brand new. Henry makes the best lever action on the planet today in my opinion.

THIS is the Henry .45-70 I've been waiting for! I opted for a Marlin 1895 SBL "T-Rex" .45-70 a few years back because of the side gate and features like the Skinner rail with built in peep sight. Now I can finally add my Brass Beauty .45-70 to my Big Boy and Golden Boy rimfire collections.

Although brass will tarnish and patina pretty (to some people) one thing brass will never do in the wet is rust on you.... which is why it it is used on high end boats.

Really enjoyed this video. About a year ago, the first new Henry came into our home, a Big Boy 45 Colt I got my wife for her birthday. As we speak the second new Henry is on its way to my FFL with my name on it, the brass 45-70 Side-stuffer. I was raised on Winchester and it is my top favorite but Henry is a very close second. I love everything about Henry, from their patriotic business model, to how they take care of their customers after the sale, and how they listen to their customers and keep bringing out new models and variations. Such a class act! Thank you Henry USA for doing what you do!

By “Work of Art” do you mean good or bad? One reason I would never buy a Henry is because I dislike tube loading on lever guns. Takes away from any resemblance of a Traditional lever gun!! Henry finds it impossible to make one model lever gun without the tube load feature which I and many other Traditional lever gun enthusiasts dislike!! Henry’s have a completely different non proportionate look to them, where either you love them or don’t love them. If you love them, then enjoy, and I hope it is and remains an excellent firearm for you!!

I really want a Henry .45-70 , but I'm old school and want the blued model with the rubber recoil pad. I'm getting recoil sensitive in my old age. I own one Henry rifle and I love it, and you can't beat Henry reliability or their customer service!!! 🇺🇸👍😉👍🇺🇸

Please consider the H010CC model (45-70 color case hardened). I have one, love it. It does have a rubber recoil pad, and you can always fold up a towel and use it as additional padding, or figure out some other simple solution. It is a gun worth having!

Cody makes a very interesting presentation with this Henry. A Henry IS on my Birthday list but it’s a long time ‘til my next Birthday. ;^) I really like the Henry’s but I don’t know which one would rise to the top of the list. I have a very nice .243 (not a Henry) so that one’s covered. Henry’s mantra “Built in the USA or not built at all” makes a huge difference when choosing!!

Great Video! I have a Henry All Weather in 45-70. Do wish it had the side gate but I bought it a year or so too early. Love the gun and the chambering of 45-70. Have filled the freezer a time or two with it. Always DRT (Dead Right There) which is fantastic not to have follow a blood trail. I have a set of Skinner Sights on mine. Prefer the peep rear over the buck horn. Overall could not be happier with my Henry. If you don't enjoy shooting a lever action then there must be something wrong with you.

Note though, they don't always have the specific gun coming through delivery so they are not always in stock but if you check every day your bound to get your hands on one. It's what I did. They were in stock here for delivery locally at the sportsman warehouse in Roanoke virgina. Which is about an hour drive from my house but hell that ain't nothing for a new gun! I picked one up last week and when I took her out I have 8 out of 10 shells have light primer strikes on super x ammo, but switched over to federal hammerdown and she ran like a champ. I took it home and cleaned the firing pin housing with birchwood casey gunscrubber and today I had 5 out of 15 rounds light strike with the super x and again she ran and loved the federal ammo. I'm lost on why the super X ammo is having issues in the rifle. I cocked the hammer and shot the round again and it would go about 80 percent of the time on a 2nd strike on the primer.

I have the regular H010 and I use iron sights, I'm going add the old school long rang sights soon. I will say it's nice to hunt with. The best part is the game don't run off and have to track down. So far it's flipped then , knocked them down on the spot. Given some thrashing around for few seconds. I also love all the different loads. Low recoil to + p, 200 gr to 700 gr. If this gun can't do it then it can't be done. My fave ammo is Buffalo bore. I have good collection of different loads they make and there magnum loads will kill any mortal creature on this planer

Only thing I still don’t like about the Henry is the magazine tube. It limits the ability of owners to potentially customize their guns with longer barrels. Sure some people probably can do it and like having a half length magazine tube but if you wanted…. Say a 26” octagonal barrel with full magazine tube….. well as Clint Eastwood once said “you’re sh*t outta luck”.

There are side gated Henry's too.
@Ben_not_10
@Ben_not_10 Год назад
@@fullsendabeerforme2988 did you read my comment? It hasn’t got anything to do with the loading method but the design of the tube. If you get a longer barreled Marlin you can get a larger magazine tube with a larger capacity. And the Winchester/Marlin style magazine tube allows for custom lengths of any preference as long as you can make a tube and spring long enough to accommodate it and feed reliably. The two piece design of the Henry, side gate or no side gate, limits you to a maximum of four rounds. If you get a longer barrel the magazine cannot be modified as easily. It’s a limiting factor for the people that would like to make custom guns from base guns.
@fullsendabeerforme2988
@fullsendabeerforme2988 Год назад
@@Ben_not_10 my mistake, a comment above you on my phone was talking about how they should have side gated Henry's, I must have clicked reply on your comment instead of theirs by accident. Agreed though on what you said but there are more modern lever guns that do offer barrel customization. Not entirely sure if henry themselves make them though. I personally prefer the shorter barrels but that's just me. I just wish 45-70 ammunition were more avaliable for me, in my area I normally have to order rounds because no gun store around me has them in stock. I guess I need to learn how to reload ammunition. Have a great day/night and a merry Christmas Benjamin. Also when it comes to 45-70 there's no need for more then 4 rounds. If anything takes more then 4, then boy your in deep.

What type of scope would you use on this Henry 45-70 or on my new Henry’s All Weather 44 magnum hunting deer or hogs or coyotes @ 100 to 150 yards? Thanks for another entertaining video!

Joseph I recommend Leupold optics. For one they are American made just like your Henry and the glass is fantastic. For shorter range like you are talking their VX- Freedom 2-7 or 3-9 would be a great choice. - Cody

Hammerdown ammo for lever actions is rather anemic compared to other .45-70 ammo. Is there a reason it's ballistically inferior to other commercially available .45-70 ammo? I would not be choosing Hammerdown ammo if I were going to be in big bear country or going moose or elk hunting. My reloads have safe pressures and still generate about 40% more ME.

The 45-70 is still not legal for deer hunting here in Indiana, or I would already have one, instead I chose a 460 S&W magnum in a Thompson Pro Hunter, pretty close to the 45-70. I’ve shot two bucks with it, one with a 300 grain bullet, one with a 269 grain bullet, this rifle was designed with a 20 inch barrel for moose hunting in thick northern woods, it comes in 45-70, 460, 500, and 50 caliber muzzleloader, I get cut by the scope every time I pull the trigger, it’s a beast.

How many yards do you zero your buckhorn sights in at?
@HenryUSA

Really depends on the situation ill be using it. A lot of my irons sights I zero at 50 to 75 yards because I wont shoot passed that. However I feel confident enough in this rifle to probably zero it at 100. - Cody

Its just unfortunate 45-70 ammo is SO expensive... I have a 1874 sharps rifle and good god.. i just bought 280 rounds for it 45-70 of course, and with tax i spent $720... YES 720$ on 280 rounds.. and this is for a breach loading 1 round at a time 1874 sharps quigley.. i dont know why anyone would want a 45-70 repeating.. youd spend thousands of dollars in ammo LOL.. Ill stick with my 44 henry.. I just wish the damn rifle didnt hang up on chambering a new round all the time, its frustrating.. i bought it used and it looks in mint condition, according to henry when i emailed you guys, it was made in 2004 so it is old one of the originals from you guys. But this damn thing the action hangs too much on loading a 44mag round.. even worse using 44 special. Ive had to tilt the gun many times to drop a loose round out and try to chamber another too many times...

Will the 45-70 run the 45 Long Colt rounds?
@NorvalHenderson
@NorvalHenderson 3 года назад
@Nunya Binnis . I have researched reloading Data for these two cartridges. Unlike the 22 short vs 22 long rifle, or 38 special vs 357 Magnum, or 44 vs 44 Magnum, there are great differences between the 45 colt and a 45-70 cartridges. I am no expert, but my opinion is: the 45 Colt cartridge SHOULD NOT be fired in a 45-70 chambering.
@brandiwynter
@brandiwynter 3 года назад
Never try a fire a .45 Colt in a .45-70. The only they have in common is the .45 part. One is a rifle caliber and the other a pistol caliber. I own both calibers and it's a definite no.

I have one question. Why the side gate? They are a PIA to load. Should have stuck with the loading through the tube. I know many will climb on board, but once they realize how much more difficult they are to load, not many will want one.

When it shoots its nice, mine came with a canted barrel almost a 1/4 inch so by default the mag tube is skewed a bit. In 40 round she jammed 3 times one critically had to dig that sucker out. Im in canada so getting it fixed on warranty is almost non existent. There is only one guy who does warranty and your lucky to get your rifle back in better condition. Super dissapointing.

Dumb question: Is the gun completely made of brass or does it have steel components. Writing a novel and the world I am building doesn't have access to iron.
@beakboi9533
@beakboi9533 2 года назад
I know it’s a bit late, but only the receiver is brass, I believe the barrel and most internals are forged steel. You can make barrels entirety out of brass or bronze, but they’ll be softer and more prone to damage. So technically you could have a gun made without iron, but they’d be less reliable
