The fact that he is such a kind guy makes this all the more heart-wrenching.

But also perhaps why he is such a kind guy. It's not uncommon for people to try and heal their past by fixing their present.

Hey Howard.... Love your format. However, can you please let your guests finish off what you are asking? You have a tendency to cut off their answers.

Mike Gike Stern is universally considered the best interviewer of all time. I don’t think he’s gonna take your advice.
@SirVic42

With other guests, who have better natural prose & focus, Howard lets them go. Henry is a little scattershot, so Howard keeps him on task with constant reminders.

Mike Gike Agree and it is annoying. However, I read the reason he does that is to stay on course to get all his questions answered. He did it a lot on the Tom Brady interview.

this is an 8-year old interview, and he still had some of those bad habits from terrestrial radio... listen to a recent show -- he's gotten a lot better at letting the guest talk...

I grew up very insecure because my parents put me down too and I got bullied a lot and Henry Winklers character as the Fonz helped me a lot. Gave me hope towards being more confident. You could feel his sincerity in portrayal of that character.

As a 11 year old I hung his poster in my bedroom dreaming of the day he would marry me , as a grown adult who went to a random Sunday car cruise in New Rochelle NY I met Henry Winkler promoting his children’s books and this man was quite possibly the kindest most attentive person I’ve ever spoken to . He was just crazy nice and let me ramble on about how much I loved him when I was younger!!! Thank you Mr Winkler you’ve given me many hours of happiness watching him portray “ the Fonz”

Henry WInkler is a wonderful man! He is one of the the only celebrities that I truly like. For the love of God, Stern, STOP interrupting your guests when they have something to say. I know you fancy yourself to be the greatest interviewer of all time. You are not. Just shut up and let them speak and continuing to repeat "dumb dog" was unnecessary and quite frankly, rude.

Howard back when Henry was in school they had no idea Dyslexia was a thing. I was born in 1967 and have Dyslexic, my Dad who was born in 1936 and he was dyslexic, and my sister who was born in 1959 has dyslexia. I was in the first generation of when schools and doctors first realized dyslexia was a thing. Before the discovery Doctors and educators thought it was just a lazy kid or they were slow. My Dad was never diagnosed. My sister wasn’t diagnosed until she was in junior or Senior high school and I was diagnosed in elementary school. My Dad and sister and myself were basically figuring out our best way to learn ourselves. My Dad would talk about how difficult school was. He could learn school lessons and do great. But as soon as it came to reading out of a school book or reading to take a test and write the answers. Is were the problem lies. I’m sure Henry was the same way. And forget about showing how you got to the solution. Just except it. A dyslexic brain has to figure out how to get the right solution it may not be exactly how the teacher taught it. But we can get it. On test I do great with a reader or if the test isn’t timed. If it is something I interested in or like I can read it first try no hiccups. If it is something Im learning because I have to I may have to read it 3 or more times. Just to understand it.
@JoDee172
@JoDee172 4 года назад
That's exactly how it was for me, and I got through school the same way. I was either lazy or stupid. I still have to read word for word, still drives me nuts. Always did well with written work for some reason, and theatre too actually, but the reading would often bring me to tears. I understand how Henry was suddenly struck with a pang of emotion remembering what it felt like to be "dumb". God, poor Henry, sounds his parents were a lot dummer than him.

I usually prefer it when Howie interviews extraordinary ordinary people (e.g., Hank, Beet, Big Foot, etc.), but this was pretty good. I think it's because it focused on Henry when he was just another extraordinary ordinary guy --something that we can relate to.

Henry Winkler received an OBE (the Order of The British Empire) from the Queen for his educational work on dyslexia these honours are very few and far between and it is especially rare they are given to non Britains it shows how us Brits love Henry he enjoys doing pantomime on stage over here at Christmas and he got a lot of American actors to come over every christmas to perform
