Physiology lecture on hepatic physiology. Discusses three major function of the liver including metabolic, synthetic, and protective/clearance functions.
The liver has such a wide variety of functions that it can be overwhelming for a student to fit them all together in a meaningful, "big picture" kind of way. This video did just that, as have your other videos I've seen. The explainations are all concise, clear, and organized. I'd also like to add that the diabetes video helped me ace a pathophys exam today--thank you! I'll be sure to pass the word along to my fellow nursing students!
As a candidate for liver transplant due to non alcoholic cirrhosis of the liver, I have been searching for information as the more I know, the better I cope. My doctors have been wonderful, as has the whole transplant team, but they do not have the time to go into such depth of all the liver functions and such. This was pretty easy for a lay person to follow even though I am not already familiar with much of the terminology. You presented the information in such a clear and methodical way that I feel I learned a lot and am making myself a vocabulary list beginning with this video. It is a fascinating subject, I think, regardless of the reason of interest. Thank you so much for this contribution. I look forward to the following videos!.
Another great video! I am a pharmacist re-learning physiology and pharmacology and your videos are the most informative and comprehensive for the healthcare professional I have yet to find! Thanks again
This helps so much. I needed some review on the liver functions for my college exam coming up and this managed to present it in an organised and easily understandable fashion. Thanks heaps! :)
As always, excellent presentation! I have watched quite a few different people lecture on physiology and you are by far the easiest to follow and the most interesting. I do have quite a few questions regarding hepatic physiology with leukemia, chemotherapy and stem cell transplants, if you are interested.
Hi Andrew - as an engineer who almost went into medicine, I found your video extremely interesting and informative. Would love to do a degree in physiology at some point... Thanks for a great introductory video!
Thank you for the videos Dr Wolf. Can I ask, if I drink a litre of water on an empty stomach, what is the journey of this water from start to finish? Thanking you in advance.
you are by far one of the clearest lecturers, thank you so much, this has been so helpful, please do not stop! If I asked for specific topics would this be a possibility? Thank you! MBBS CS 1 St. Georges University of London Medical School
Amazing lecture. Thank you!! As a dentist should I be concern about post operative infection after invasive dental procedure in patients with end stage liver disease scheduled for liver transplant?
Enjoyed the video. I thought you mentioned early on that storage and release of certain vitamins were going to be discussed but the only one you mentioned was K.
Thank you! This was very informative. Are you a Professor or what is your job/background? I'm studying for a critical care test, and this was a great review for me. Wish youtube had been around when I was in nursing school 17 years ago....lol.
I agree that liver is an accessory organ to the GIT, it doesn’t decrease its importance by terming it that way, a phone charger is an accessory which we can’t do without. The phone at a point in time becomes useless without the charger as the battery drains. That’s just my pov
can you please explain how CCK is released with regards to peritalsis, and which specifically is responsible for releasing bicarbonate in conjunction to bile release? And upon emulsification of fatty molecules; how does a sequesterant chemically influence abosrption?
Increased prothrombin time should correspond with increased INR, indicating that there may be issues with liver function because of insufficient production of clotting factors.
Thank you VERY much!!! I read a lot in russia, but understand only after this video in english. Maby you can fine a little time and continue this topic, explain development of hepatocyte and their membrane polarity...
great video...jus a critique for you to work on. Your voice fluctuates within the video, i found myself having to change the volume within ur video often. maybe work on that, other than that good video
Absolutely inaccurate comment.. the volume was consistent during the whole video.. I don't know whether Mr Wolf has fixed it but if not then it seems that this is some sort of problem with your machine.
