Whoa. I'm having this done in the morning, and when the tech called today and said it was going to take between 2 & 4 hrs I about fell over. Now I see why it takes that long. Yikes. Thanks for demystifying the procedure though. Up to now I've been calling it a "hydro-scan" 'cause that's what I thought I was hearing. 🤦♀️
I have to under go this test on January 26 th . I have never been through a Hyda scan in my life . This will be my first time . Thank you so much for sharing this video with me !
@2:58 the hormone is called CCK (cholecystokinin) which causes the stomach to reduce it's motility while the pancreas injects enzymes in the small intestine, and causes the gallbladder to squeeze so to empty its contents into the small intestine. Bile helps to emulsify fats; in other words, it helps to partition large into small much like chopping a a log into smaller pieces.
having lost my gallbladder, i can remember cck tests making me really nauseated and being quite painful. the good news is that the side effects wear off in a few minutes and you get results pretty fast on what the next steps to get you well will include.
Had a CT scan of the Abdomen today and on to the HIDA scan in a week and a half. Still nervous that machine will for sure panic me and just moving on a table without my own know abouts is a little scary for me. Also hate needles haha so hope they have the A/C turned up and some ice packs ready because I sweat my ass off every time for a little prick.
Thank you for this very informative video. I most likely need to have one of these done and I wanted to see what I was signing up for. It really helped ease my anxieties about the procedure.
How did everything work out? I've been dealing with some upper right abdo pain for years and they are not sure what it is. Had a doctor mention this test recently.
@@mckricks1 had the HIDA scan, found my gallbladder functioning at 31%. Minimum is 35% or above to be normal. Had gallbladder taken out in sept. Much better today.
@@outdoorsman8385 Thanks. I'm curious though why would there be pain if your gallbladder is underperforming? I would think that it would rather be overreactive or something. I'm wondering if I have issues with the biliary track. I'm also a younger guy and don't fot the typical gallbladder problem description making this a harder diagnosis for me. Ultrasound always came back negative. But I have pain anatomically where the gallbladder is. Vomiting sometimes helps when I get these issues. Or drinking loads of water.
@@karlachavez9736 fine. Just laying downing for I think hour and half for the scan to finish. Not a big deal at all. They gave me an ensure drink so they could see how the gallbladder functioned. That was it.
I just had mine done here in Kentucky this passed Friday, and it hurt after they put the hormone stuff in me to make u feel like your full and also made me feel nauseous but after a few minutes I felt okay
Getting ready for one this morning. I’m looking at a 2 hour procedure and a 4 hour delay time ? What is this for ? I’m so curious. My sister said it was for being in a dark room. I’m confused a little
I just had this test 2 days ago. I also had it 6 years ago. The difference is that the first time, instead of being injected with an enzyme, I had to drink a bottle of Ensure. I'm hoping this method is more accurate. After about 45 minutes, my gallbladder/right side started to hurt. But it wasn't anything worse than what I'm already going through. I actually dozed off a few times.
@karlachavez9736 I felt fine afterwards. I had a bout of diarrhea after an hour or so. TMI, sorry. Again, the negative side effects were things I am already experiencing; some pain in my side during the procedure and bathroom issues when I got home. Mostly, I just felt sleepy.
@@TheUberlisa But if your gallbladder is fine, what is the reason for your pain??? I have had pain in my upper right side for a year, they told me it was a fatty liver, I went on a diet but I still had pain. God, I don't know what to do
@@karlachavez9736 they don't know yet. They've ruled out my gallbladder. I had an ultrasound on my liver. It's only a little fatty. So it shouldn't be the cause of my pain. I had a CT scan and an upper endoscopy scheduled, but now there's some shenanigans going on with my insurance. It might be a while before I get some answers.
My doctor wants me to get this scan but it's estimated to coat over $2,000 and my insurance UHC sucks so will pay NOTHING till I reach my outrageous deductible.
I had one done and the results showed a 100% EF, which the lab notes stated were "within normal limits"? Is this correct? I have having lots of IBS symptoms
Not normal it's called hyperkinetic, most doctors aren't smart enough because their textbooks didn't show this and they can't logically think for themselves. Get a hold of a smart surgeon and they will recommend taking it out.
@@Kayuubi1 God, I don't know what to do. I'm afraid of doing it because of the radiation. I don't know what consequences it can have later. I'm thinking about canceling the test. I don't know what to do
So how much radiation exposure is a patient exposed to during this procedure and what type of radiation? As someone who has been exposed to high levels of radiation this is a concern. Is there an alternative to putting radioactive material into the body?
@@matthewthorne9145 I have the same concerns. They seem to always minimilize this concern comparing the amounts of radiation in other things as if that helps.
@@shannonmcneillie2313 Just to be clear, the morphine is used to force the gallbladder to eject it's contents. I only note that because some people think it has something to do with pain or keeping you relaxed, and it does not. I know there is a hormone that does the same thing, but I think it pays to ask in advance. Personally, I would vomit for five hours if they gave me morphine and unless they can assure me I'm not going to get morphine I'm not taking the test. Post another reply tomorrow after the test and let us know what they gave you to fill and then empty your gallbladder. Thanks.
No way in hell you'd get me to do this. I react to everything! Even when getting fluids in IV for some reason my body reacts bad to everything literally. Hopefully they can detect gallbladder issues with MRi cause this is not happening lol I am not willing to risk it. I have had atleast 30 reactions over past 3 years and not willing to pass out ect again. This is where I struggle as Doctors don't listen to patients they just follow a "standard" and apply in broadly. I know my body better than anyone. I can't even take baby asprin for a headache im that sensitive.
