In this video my girlfriend Gill does her first double black diamond on a snowboard! We started the day doing a few casual laps on 7th heaven on Blackcomb mountain in Whistler. We talked to a skier on the chairlift who told us that the snow in Spanky's was really good and worth the hike. Gill was super excited to make the hike in to Spank's and put her snowboarding to the test in the double black diamond area! There turned out to be a small amount of fresh powder on the top half of the run, which made for great snowboarding conditions! I remember doing my first double black. I did a few runs and pretty much nailed them and never fell. I was ecstatic to tell my friends. Went to the cafeteria to eat and also tell them about my achievement. I was so eager to tell them that I was rushing and I slipped on the cafeteria floor and gave myself a hairline fracture on my right elbow. I found it so ironic that I hadn't gotten hurt on the mountain, but got hurt in the damn cafeteria. To top it all off 2 weeks ago I went skiing and I fractured my left pinky, again in the cafeteria. Was going down the stairs and my foot slipped and I bashed my pinky on the rail trying to hold on. Apparently, the cafeteria is the most dangerous place of all for me lmao.

I was at Snowshoe Mtn the other day. This girl walking inside startbucks fell and hurt herself pretty bad near the door where the floor was wet. I told my wife I would be pissed if I didn't get hurt riding then went and broke my elbow in Starbucks.

lmao, not quite the same for me, but I'd get pissed when I go down the whole mountain and then end up catching an edge near the base where it flattens out...luckily I just now understood why you actually have less control when it flattens out

Lol, I went down a double black diamond on a whim when I was 7 and skiing. I wiped out and did several front flips down the hill but I was fine lol, shit was crazy

@@bigmac6710 I strongly believe that it's a double black, but only because of how shit different countries/ski resorts are at actually rating their slopes. In my experience all of the double black diamonds have been very narrow with a bunch of trees/rocks in the way.

Double blacks are different in different places, for example, the resorts near me, a double black is probably not even a black in Breckinridge.

Nice job Gill! She’s good! Haha, my first Black was a complete accident. Went to the top of the mountain and it was snowing. Once I boarded down to the sign I noticed it was a black. Too hard in the deep snow to hike back up. So down I went! I always go alone I don’t have snowboarding friends. Decided last year to teach myself!

I won’t be leery of a double black next time. Came back from an injury after a couple years off... I’m guess if a beginner-intermediate can handle it, I won’t have any problem with my anxiety.

Is that Whistler. What most impressed me with this video is that there was untracked snow and it wasn't nuking. There wasn't a zillion people in the video either. That kind of snow doesn't last long in Utah, where I am, but from what I hear, powder doesn't exist anywhere like it does here. I wanna check that mountain out though. It's as gorgeous as any of our resorts and way less crowded on a day like this.

It has happened to us all at least once. My first black run was also an accident. Was aiming to go down a blue run that skirts the side of the black runs at my local hill. Because of bad visibility I ended up on a very short but steep black run. Couldn’t turn for the life of me but it was a good time. Funnily enough I broke a rib catching an edge on the intended blue run the following day.

I think too going before you're tired...kinda a late morning run. But the chutes at Steamboat don't require hiking so it's easy to do a couple in a row and the tree runs at the bottom 💗💗💗

The trail rating is highly dependent on the mountain. A double black in the poconos would be an easy blue or difficult green in VT.

Hey man, I just came here to say thank you for all the videos. I returned back from Austria (Konigsleiten) yesterday of a 7 day ski trip. Watched your beginner videos before I went, never stood on a snowboard and ski'ed 1 week when I was 11 (am now 28). On Monday and Tuesday I had 2h lessons before noon and afternoon was trying by myself. On Thursday I went down a very bumpy red slope without falling. On Friday I went down a black slope and went off-piste next to the black slope a few times. Also went a few times down a hill at +/- 70km/h. Couldn't have done all this without your beginner videos, these helped me as much than the lessons I had or even more. so.. Thank you!

This makes me long to be able to do this. I went to the slopes for spring break but only a quarter of the runs were open due to the lack of snow but the ones that were open were icy. I was trying to learn to board and broke my wrist on my first bunny hill. I ended up learning to ski with a broken wrist but I just wanted to board. Tip for new people, listen to your mom when she says it’s not a good idea to repeatedly fall on ice and purchase wrist guards.

Yea, don't board on ice. Boarding is not made for ice. Also, in addition to wrist guards, get crash pads for your tailbone. Best $30 you'll ever spend in your life.

They actually went down glacier run at black comb. Technically this run does not even have a difficulty level. But i do not think this would be a double black, maybe a blue or easy black. Still, good job!

Who cares if it’s an European red, or if there’s more powder somewhere else. That’s what a US double diamond looks like, and to me, it looks fine af. The only thing I can say about it is that it seems like it would be more fun on skis than on a board, but that’s just me

Blackcomb Glacier. Nice terrain but very long ski out. It's a bit like Delirium Dive at Sunshine, it's a lot of work to make 4 runs a day, but it is awesome. One of the longest ski outs you'll ever see though. At least it has grade so you don't have to walk much of it.

I may not may not have gone down a triple black diamond on my first day snowboarding (EVER). I was with a buddy and with no lessons, we went down the beginner slope twice and thought, “yeah, nah we got this.” So we take the second ski-lift (we had no idea where it went). 15 minutes later we’re standing at the summit, and the only way down is a triple black diamond, but we didn’t see the sign 😂. I’m not too keen on the drop, but my buddy fires me up, “today we are men! Our balls have fully dropped!” Etc. Off we go, fully sending it down the mountain. I’m still alive, and we have the photos and GoPro footage to prove it. Best day ever...
