Yeah lol they don’t really look small at all. But I could see how it is a comparison to what it appeared like before, so they seem oddly small now to her
They suit her face perfectly. People need to stop following trends. Some look good with big lip and others look better with smaller or medium sized one.
a lot of things could lead to this tbh. 1.usually it's because they missed monthly appointments which are very important to keep up with. 2. sometimes your teeth just won't move to the spot your orthodontist wants it to go so they will have to readjust or improvise another approach (elastics, power chain, or thicker/thinner wire, etc..), 3. on rare cases when there is injury to the teeth it will require surgery/treatment that may prolong the desired alignment of the teeth. (p.s. don't google 'never fight with braces on') 4. you may need to switch to a new orthodontist because your original ortho doesn't actually know what they're doing or are inefficient/unskilled at what they do. (hopefully this isn't the case)
I had my braces for over double the standard time. I was looking for about 2 years but my back molars were parallel to my jaw, luckily my dentist was able to get those 2 in position but I ended having to wear my braces for over 5 years I also had to wear rubber bands but they were really uncomfortable so I never wore them, by a stroke of luck my orthodontist never said anything about them and my teeth are perfect. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS
My friends ex had them from seventh grade and we graduated high school and he still had braces. I hope he still does not have them on that like 16 years.
It's also something you can ask your orthodontist about. Mine brought it up the very first appointment, he said that I already had a nice lip shape so he didn't want to change that too much, just fix my teeth so I could bite again and get rid of the pain. So if you have concerns about it bring it up, they should know what you're talking about and be able to give you some idea of how much it could change and whether or not they can give you the projection that you want while still fixing the actual problem.
A lot of dental procedures could affect face features, it’s a good rule of thumb to ask about generally. For example, many don’t know getting pre-molars removed slims the face.
I had a quite beautiful and a nice size upper lip before getting braces. And I pretty much only see a line as a upper lip now. Not even have removed or have completely fixed the overbite. I feel sad now when people tell me how beautiful my smile and lips were before the braces💔
When I got braces, I hid my mouth randomly when I was embarrassed, not because I was embarrassed of the braces themselves, but because I was embarrassed how weird my face looked because my lips were extended from my face so much. Probably wasn’t noticeable to anyone except me, but I felt soooo weird looking because of it. Not looking forward to taking the braces off and thinking my face is weird without the braces. Your brain just gets used to things after a while.
Even if they really were THIN, I know a lot of beautiful people (of different ethnicities) with thin lips too - hope she tackles her dysphoria instead of going straight for filler
Looking back at my old pics without braces, i think my lips are pretty much the same. My orthodontist also always says that he’ll make sure that my lips stay the same and won’t get any smaller 😄
thank you bentist for keeping me interested in dental knowledge with easy to digest and fun little lessons about different things!! i love learning about different biology/sciency/health stuff and you make it enjoyable!!
Lmao, I’m a singer, I’ve been one for most of my life, and I just remembered how when I first got my braces a lot of the people around me worried if it would affect my singing and pronunciation. Then I got them, and I was completely fine with singing (I could even still do tongue twisters), so I went to band practice that night of getting them. NO ONE TOLD ME THE PAIN WOULD GET WORSE AS THE DAY WENT ON. So while it didn’t affect how I sounded, it hurt like hell during and after the practice because I was singing non stop for 3 hours. Fun memories 😂😅
I'm going through that right now and it's making me insecure :( My mouth looks protrude with them on but I never naturally had that plump. I cannot smile properly at all. I have 4-5 months left, will it go back to normal?
@@holii2483 Bad. I got the braces at 30 yr old. The treatment unevenly collapsed my cheek pads and made me look older. After years of botox and fillers to hide it, finally met a dentist who recommended Smile Design Invisalign to correct what the traditional braces did.
@@automatic5 Orthodontists don’t consider the harmony of your face when straightening your teeth/bite. In my case, the orthodontists all recommended pulling my bite in and down. It looked straight, but made my face look crooked because they didn’t consider how my natural face was aligned. I also developed TMJ and enlarged jaw muscles from grinding. It was awful. It made my face look so masculine. The treatment changed my heart shaped face to square shaped. Invisalign and really good dentist who studied the face was able to fix it.
My braces horror story is that a few months bevpfore I got my braces off I got my lip stuck under my bracket and couldn’t get it out and had to call my ortho at 9 at night to get my lip out thankfully I have a nice orthodontist and he got it out that night. Hurt so bad don’t recommend accidentally hitting your self with the metal part of a dog leash
That's the one thing I was sad about. My upper lip is not as full as my bottom. My braces made them look fuller. I was sad and happy when I got my braces off
I was so happy to see how my lips changed when I got my braces off. My brackets were really high, which was nice cause they were harder to see, but that meant that they stretched my lips awkwardly when I smiled.
Can’t believe I looked so stupid with braces and I have glasses 😢 it was like I was posing for a photo like Kim K or something those lips ugh 😂 glad I don’t have it anymore
Bish she looks absolutely gorgeous! I’m a teenager and I really can’t see why society would love having plumb lips. Just my personal opinion though. I have a small mouth and lips (just about as long as my nose) and my lips are naturally pale and i feel like it’s my best feature. Any small or thin lipped girlies out there: don’t change your lips. They’re beautiful :D Edit: sorry if I came off as rude, it really wasn’t my intention. Big or plump lips are pretty brought up by society, though I actually don’t understand why. (Explanation needed) Different people can have different views on beauty, I’m not purposefully putting down others for my own confidence. I just have a version of beauty that may not confine to the standards of society, and I wish to believe anyone can do that too :)
It's good that you like your lips, but no need to put down big-lipped girlies. It makes you sound insecure. You can compliment your features without insulting others' features :)
Thanks! Now I’m not getting braces 😁 lol jk 🤣 but idk if I need them, my teeth are pretty straight 🤷🏾♀️ new sub! your tips are really helpful, and the PUHHH- it always gets me 😂
Dude I’m so happy that I only have to deal with this for about 6-8 months. I just got mine yesterday. I’m struggling to pay them off, but pain is beauty. Btw if you’d like to donate I’ll comment my gofundme ❤
The most important part the Bentist forgot to mention is that if you had extractions (teeth removed) for braces, then the retractive forces will bring the front teeth back in the mouth. The front teeth prop up the lips and give them shape (think of a tent and it’s support rods). Remove the support structures (teeth) and the lips (tent) will fall back/down. As the teeth go back, the lips will follow. Yes, the lips will get smaller if you had thin lips before treatment, and thick lips will look deflated too after retraction
I know a trumpet player (if you don't know, the mouthpiece to a trumpet is very very small) which got braces and couldn't play his instrument with good tone anymore.
I had an underbite so they flared my top teeth out. So my lips poke out...they are thin and not plump...but because of the way my jaw is set and my teeth flared they look plumper. Lucky me lol
⟟ just got braces yesterday and my teeth are so sore. worst thing is that it’s only part of my front that have brackets so far. ⟟ have to go back in august to get the rest of my top brackets and then all my bottom brackets🥲
I don’t have braces on and I have full lips, I’m going to get braces soon tho so when she said your lips gets smaller after I started panicking cause I’m happy with my naturally plump lips 😭
Hahaha I loved having braces because it made my lips look fuller, and I took advantage of that and my youth wearing lots of bright lipsticks. 😂 Getting them off kind of broke my heart a little. My upper lip completely disappears when I smile naturally, and the braces changed that too. I still miss them sometimes. Maybe it's a sign I should save up for lip filler. 😂
I'm so happy my lips got smaller but yet plumper, or perky..... also everyone swears I got a nose job. But I also got extractions on my upper pallet only, because my pallet was over extended (didn't know was possible) , and I had really bad overcrowding. My whole face looks different, I still have 6 months left, but it's already a giant change in my face for the better.
When I took off my braces, I was so sad because my teeth look like \ and not like | how i was expecting them to be, but my mom cheered me up by telling me that now my lips look bigger because of that.
The weirdest part of getting braces for me is when they tightened the first couple times I have a lisp for a while because I have an underbite and my top teeth stopped touch my bottom teeth in the front lol
She doesn’t mean they’re smaller than when the braces were on. She means they’re smaller/thinner than BEFORE she even had the braces. Stop being disingenuous.
When I was a kid before braces my mouth would always be open as my teeth were misaligned braces for years and it was odd one day to realize I can close my lips
What I always do is lick my front teeth because they are so smooth. When I got my braces removed I licked my front teeth out of habit at some point and immediately pull away my tongue because it felt so weird. They were even smoother than before but also extremely sensitive
