Still amazes me that she never wanted to sing.....she loved playing the drums! Lol. Such a beautiful.....yet haunting voice..... RIP Karen! Taken way too soon! 🙏😇😢
I'm Just not sure if there will be another voice Like Karen Carpenter. There are phenomenal voices out there yes, but Karen communicated something through her voice that connects with the soul in a unique way and it stands the test of time. I am so grateful that people like yourself are open to listening and "getting" how amazing her voice is. Thank you!
Have you listened to the album? It's more poignant still there, as the last full track on the album, Road Ode, fades into an eerie "ghost" reprise of the section of A Song For You beginning "I love you in a place..." It's almost painfully haunting. And this song's not even one of their own. It's by Leon Russell.
I love how honest and sincere you are in your reactions. Seeing and hearing the body language, and the way you can "hear" your smile. I needed your positivity today. Thank you
Your reaction was delightful. I enjoyed it. As someone who was around when this song originally came out, I'm happy to see the younger generation appreciate the 70s music. No effects, No pitchperfect... just pure talent. Thank You
Thanks for your comments. I totally agree with your assessment of her voice. It's beautiful and pure. How about the arrangement and the musicians, the sax solo, the Beach Boy -- like harmonies. Leon Russell wrote it, and his piano playing makes his version great. And yes, I going to listen to the Carpenters version again. RIP, Leon and Karen.
BRO, Karen Carpenter's voice is so hauntingly beautiful! She can melt the coldest hearts. So many good songs that all become favorites. I always remember listening to her Christmas songs during the holidays. Btw, I left a comment and request on your David Phelps reaction. David has a ton of faithful fans, including myself, and hopefully you will benefit from the additional views and Subscribers! THANK YOU!
This song was written by Leon Russell in 1970 and the Carpenters were the first to cover it. There have been many others that did recorded it, but Karen's was the first to do so
LEON RUSSELL wrote and released it 1st in 1970. Donny took it next in 1971, then the Carpenters took it in 1972. Still kills and the long sax solo was so beautiful and it made love to the melody. All recordings, smashing, but love Richard and Karen's too.
I keep replaying this reaction video because I just love your reaction to Karen Carpenter. You make me relive my highschool years listening to her and her brother! 🥰
As someone who owns both albums, it's amazing how different the viewpoints come across. Donny's version feels like it's coming from wisdom and support, where Karen's feels like it's coming from reflection and hope. Oddly I like listening to Donny's version more, but Karen's leaves me feeling better.
Hi JB!!It's been a long time when you did the last reqction to the Carpenters...i don't even remember the date when where you react to our Karen...all i know is you really love karen and how you really obssess to her voice.
Love Karen it doesn't matter what she sings, Karen passed away young but look at what she left the world to enjoy and I know she's up there smiling that this new generation loves her songs with no space or time.
I subscribed to your channel quite a while ago after you reacted to "You Don't Bring Me Flowers," a duet by Neil Diamond and Barbra Streisand. You had such a visceral reaction that I was sure you would react again soon to a Barbra solo performance, and there were many great suggestions from your listeners; however, now almost a year later, sadly not another one. I say this not as any kind of a rebuke or criticism, but only to tell you that you're missing out on hearing the greatest voice to ever grace this planet. You seem to be drawn to women vocalists, well you ain't heard nothing yet. Barbra will draw out emotions you never knew you had. She's the best ever at interpreting a lyric from the lyracist's heart straight into your own. She's the only artist in history to debut an album at #1 in six consecutive decades; her catalog is mammoth. She's also a pretty great actress so she knows exactly how to deliver a song as it was meant to be. Please start off with the video of the movie clip, of the Academy Award winning song "Evergreen" which she co-wrote with Paul Williams for her 1976 iteration of "A Star Is Born." I hope you will feature Barbra again soon... once you go down that rabbit hole, you won't be disappointed.
Back in those days Karen was also a drummer and she overheard executives discussing her weight which is why they brought her out from behind the drums to put her on center stage. That and the fact that she could never get any kind of approval from her mother caused her to become anorexic and nobody noticed because Hollywood wants you thin. She suffered from this disease for years until her heart gave out and her death brought national attention the issue. Such a sad story of an angelic singer. She also was a singer in a time when harder rock singers were getting the attention and she never felt good enough.
Karen’s low register is pure gold. What is totally amazing is that Karen did not even know she had any music talent until the age of 14. She didn’t like Physical Ed class so got out of it by joining the band class. Also got out of Geometry Class bc she said she “sucked at it” by joining the high school choir class. That is where she discovered her talent and this songbirds wings began to spread. By the time she was 16 Richard recognized her God given talent. At 18 years old she had the full 4 range octaves contralto voice range with that unique golden low register.
Dude I love your smile. I can tell that your really into the music. 💖🎶 Have you ever tried listening to the music with your eyes closed? I thought I was the only one who did that until I saw Steven Tyler do it. You can hear and pick out the instrumentation the riffs all the background stuff and of course the vocals of the Singer. It's absolutely AMAZING. 💖🎶🤗 Have you done a reaction to the Beach Boy's 'God Only Knows '? Beautiful. It's off of their Pet Sounds album. 🤗
Y'know that lump in your throat and the tingle in the back of your eyes that you get when something just gets to you? That happens to me every time I hear Karen's voice.
