OMG One of my Bucket Listers of 10 years, lay there!! I had always wanted to find a Heraldic Pendant, they date back to the 11th century and were on knights horses, as decoration.
I was so happy finding it. I was metal detecting with Coil to the Soil group in Yorkshire, on a field the size of the moon. I had my Garrett at max metal detector with me, which I chose to metal detect with only because it had a smaller coil on it, rather than taking the Garrett APEX with the large Reaper coil.

Your first find looks like the scabbard throat to a dagger and has decoration on the top edge. I am still going with a lovely Heraldic Pendant or saddle mount. It looks like it has a 'D' on the right side. Ask the FLO. A couple of suggestions, for those clay lumps, smack the clump with the flat of your hand digger to shatter the clump. For the one handed filming problems, have you though of a phone mount on your spade. Stick the spade in the ground and use it as a monopod. That was a great hunt.

Your heraldic find is very interesting. It looks like the pattern on it is a round shield with two crossed swords/cutlass over a striped background. That was hard work over all those boulders of soil

Perhaps if you tried doing a rubbing with paper and a crayon like people used to do with funeral brasses in years past you could see more detail.

Later post medieval heraldic pendants had a ornate surrounding with the hook and the shield was in the middle. If you look up post medieval heraldic pendants you will see many examples

I was thinking, snake buckle, but yep, just a hookey thingy! I dont know what the shield was, but id be happy to find it too! Many years ago when i was in my teens, It was summer in Australia, and i was just wearing shorts and naught else, sitting on a steel rail three feet off the ground, when I fell backwards onto a large patch of stinging nettles. I didn't enjoy it one bit! But everybody else thought it was extremely funny! Cheers Dawn!

I think the shield is a leather hores tack ornament. Still a nice find. The "ringy-thingy" the guy found may be a handle to a candle holder.

That was a lucky swing dear. Congrats. That first item may have been a flattened thimble. Terrible getting old isn't it. When a sod of earth can defeat you, the game is over. The next sign you're losing it is sitting down in nettles. You need a minder.

I would love a minder!! But you're right, squashed my glasses and couldnt see anything close up, vibrating arm from nettles, and unable to open concrete with one hand, I am actually practicing for a cartwheel in the near future! Just need the right find and the right ground to do it on

Congratulations on the wonderful shield! Whether it’s Medieval or something later, it’s obviously a fantastic piece of history. I'm sorry your pendant didn't turn out to be heraldic! I still think you should have the FLO look at it because it does look old and there does appear to be enameling on it. So, it still may be something really cool, even if it's not what you thought it was. ❤

When you get hit by a nettle, pre on it and it takes the sting out. Use your phone camera to zoom in on your find and you can see it much better even without glasses. Great find btw❤️🌹

You asked if any enameling could be seen on that pedant? Yes. Near the top, there is a bit of red enamel left. I wouldn't write that off just because it doesn't match other examples perfectly. Remember , something that old will tend to be quite individual in character.😊

Could it be the lid off a pill box or snuff box. I found one nearly exactly same shape as that but one i found was silver and it was defo the lid of a pill/snuff box.

There is a whole library of British finds logged on computer and lots of historians to boot with the knowledge to, give at least guess at it, not being a house brick or a ming vase good luck with that one did you test for silver or maybe the hook had whore off naturally back in the past. So if that's the case then I withdraw my house brick and ming vase theory for what I'm about to say you live in hope. They had a boot fairs on that field you were on last year and that bloody north east wind blow right up my arm sleeves holes and leg holes in the end last Saturday I had enough of it, twenty two minutes and it was 17 degrees as well when the sun broke through every now and again, over that twenty odd minutes period. I think your losing your touch, no bronze age ring donuts, get some donuts in your videos I miss them, I'm going a bed nite Lancaster sleep safe, she likes Yorkshire better.
