+Herb Alpert Just wanna say you’re a GENIUS!! Your music has made such a positive impact in my life. My Dad who been a huge fan since the Sixties and has pretty much all of your vinyl is in the hospital since April and when we talk do a ZOOM I always play your music and he loves it and lifts everyone’s spirits. THANK YOU FOR THE MUSIC!! Both you and your wife Lani have left a indelible print in my musical memories that will live on and on... GOD BLESS!! 💯🔝♥️
@@robertsprouse9282way off brother. If you meant respectively (in order) This Guy was late 60’s release. Rise over a decade later. Wasn’t sure. Not criticizing just putting releases in order…respectively. ;)
@@jdhrap , RISE was released in 1979, “THIS GUY’s…” date was in 1968. I mentioned both, listing the instrumental first, and the other one, the lyrical single second. Never did I say that RISE came first by its release date, rather I did say it only first in my mention without the date, and that was in accordance with the fact that I mentioned the term instrumental first, with the mention of the lyrical single coming second/last.= respectively. I never mentioned their release dates until this post. ‘Respectively’ in writing does not have to go by dates. It can go by order of mention before in the next sentence(s) ‘respectively’ is referring strictly to order of titles..not chronologically. Yep..
This is a true masterpiece of modal music. Notice the 12/8 time signature, and how the modulations are barely noticeable, which takes mastery in music composition and arrangements. The rhythmic guitar here has the role of carrying the 12/8, impeccably, while the bass makes the rhythm coherent, and the drumming is modest, unobtrusive and yet meaningful. Great harmony, a great melody: True quality music.
Herb Alpert.. ❤ A sublime talent whose music will live on forever. The passion & soul he puts into every tune never fails to awe & captivate. I ran into him in an elevator years ago ..he was standing in the corner, alone, dressed in a cream-colored linen shirt & matching slacks. I was so astonished to see him a few feet in front of me looking nonchalant & yet magnetic at the same time. I wanted to say, you are brilliant and I have all your albums which I listen to incessantly. Instead, I felt overcome, & said nothing. Which I regret to this day. If by any tiny chance you see this, Mr. Alpert -- thank you for your uplifting, soul-stirring music ! And to Lani, my most loved female singer. What a pair ! 😘
This song was written by the enormously talented Spanish singer and composer Juan Carlos Calderón (RIP). He and Herb Alpert made a fabulous team for Alpert's Fandango album. This song makes me so nostalgic and takes me back to 1982 like it was yesterday.
I don't know if you can call JC Calderon a singer but he did sing a few choruses and songs when he made his El Taller de Calderon Album. He was known more for his composing music, lyrics, and fabulous strings. 2 years ago, I visited his hometown and childhood house and where he rests in peace. There is a statue of him in that hidden pueblo where he spent his childhood away from the City of Santander. There is an older painter with a gallery that told me stories about the Calderon brothers.
I'm guessing this was shot in Mexico as a kind of nod to the album title. I long assumed this was a Mexican-themed album because of Calderon's compositions being featured, but I guess I had the wrong continent.
Nothing wrong with that ! The track came out when I was a kid, I liked it then, and I still like it now. I've been trying to find out all my life, what was the name of the song and what artist performed it. THANKS RU-vid !!!!
Herb Alpert is a Talented Guy!!. I am 45 years old, and I started listening to your Music when I was 6 years old in 1983 when I first Listened to Red Hot, & Garden Party, and Rise you caught My attention Bro!! Keep playing Good Music Man!!😀👏👏👏👍👋
Herb is 87 years old and still going strong. Says he still plays every day. There’s a great interview with Herb by Tom Scott, the great tenor sax player, you can find on Tom Scott’s Podcast Express which took place in April 2021. I had no idea Herb was the “A” in A&M records. According to Scott it was far and away the best studio in the 70s and 80s to make music. I didn’t realize that the Dating Game theme song was Herb’s.
@@andyjackson4505 Herb Alpert was also the one at A&M who saw and heard the talent in the Carpenters and gave them their big break. He was rewarded with a wall full of gold records.
Mr .Alpert-my mom played your beautiful music in the '60's and we thank you for your talent and many years of such good listening & travel music. We also listened to Lani hall- in brazil '66- what a lovely voice and couple you are. thank you
Route 101 is my favorite Herb Alpert tune, Rise is my otherfavorite Herb Alpert tune. I drove on route 101 from the Mexican border all the way to Paso Robles, a portion of it is shared with I-5 South of Los Angeles. I also drove portions of it between the North end of the Golden Gate Bridge & Burlingame, between San Jose & Gilroy, also drove part of it between Olympia &Tacoma as well. My most favorite part of route 101is from Ventura to San Luis Obispo.
Greetings from the Chicago area, we did vacation summer 2016 from Reno to SanFran and a Saturday drive down to Monterey and Big Sur. My fantasy was to jam to this song and I couldn't get the Bluetooth to sync. So disappointed but at least I've driven on parts of Route 101 finally. Dream is to one day drive it from Marin County to Tijuana.
"The essence of my childhood" too!! The Great days of the 70's my parents were so cool, had great friends and parties, and blasted it throughout the house all the time!! Miss those times and my awesome parents!! Party always!! Good life!!
I would like to thank you for 50 years of genius. Your music has carried me to far off places, given me joy, wonder, inspiration, influence, and amazement, since I was a teenager. Bless you, old friend - J.P.
Singing on Route 101 at A & M Studio with the amazing Herb Albert producing, standing next to me, was one of the great moments of my career. It was one of the first albums I sang on when I moved from Chicago to Los Angeles two year prior. Mary Hylan sang with me and at the time Mary & I were both part of Clare Fischer's 2+2 that just received a Grammy nomination, a few years later we won the Grammy for Best Jazz Vocal Group Performance.Route 101 is such a classic. I still love hearing it, especially driving on Route 101 from Los Angeles up the California coast. No better soundtrack for that experience. Thanks Herb.
Thank you Herb Alpert for the fantastic music you have made across my lifetime since I was in 3rd grade. Your music inspires me and is so happy and exhilarating! ❤❤❤
Lovely song reminds me of a time in my young life , working at this elegant restaurant (Valentinos Italian Kitchen at 8 park place N.Y.C. ) in the spring of 1982 , just grooving and having a sweet life 🌟🤩👍
HERB! I wanted to shout out to you in Nashua a few weeks ago. I felt shy to yell down to the stage from the balcony. Wanted to tell you every sunday morning I cue your music in on Pandora. The whole house is saturated with your tunes as my 18 yr. old daughter, 41 yr. old wife and my 65 yr. old self get ready for church. Sublime. Since I was a little boy in the 60's I have been exhilarated and warmed by your music. Thank you so much!
Mr. Alpert, you are truly a legend and helped shape my love for music. I've been listening to you since I was five or six years old and had the good fortune of meeting you in Los Angeles in 1992 when you were filming a music video. I am now 49 years old and still enjoy everything you have brought to my life musically. Thank you for every splendid, magical song you have ever done.
Ahora tengo 44 .
As a young teen back then, I Ioved his music, as I still do today, but didn't really see him as a sex symbol. Now I am 54 and noticing that Herb was just a little younger than that when Rise and Route 101 videos came out, and I am like "My Goodness.... what a handsome man!"
Mr. Alpert!!! My respects to you!! I grew up with his music because my father loved it and this morning I was just having one brass song in my head (that I am not sure if is your as I don't recall its name) yet I went into youtube to hear one more time your amazing music. And now that I see you have a channel, I had to let you know my admiration and respect to you as a performer and musician. God bless you Herb, your music will be here forever!! With all my respect, Abraham Ocón from Honduras
Enigmatic sound Mr. Alpert your music never pass away generation after generation one of the music`s glory!!!! Greatings from a place where I grew up listened your masters pieces in Long Play (LP) Caracas Venezuela!!!

Herp even today I'm hypnotised by the magic of your fabulously talent.Ialways sounds like the first time you graced us with your dynamic talent. Thank you for the joy that is simply you. What a tremendous contribution to my personal happiness. Nancy Innes Ft. Lauderdale Florida.Woooooooo
I enjoy listening to classic rock, alternative rock, heavy metal, etc etc...but you can't go wrong listening to Herb Albert classics to escape into some soft relaxing music. I guess I'm saying, I grew up listening to variety of music genre.
My Dear Friend Doug has moonlighted as a drummer for 40 years and he has the widest range of musical taste! He just introduced me to this....AND I LOVE IT!!❤️❤️👏👏👏
The track came out when I was a kid, I liked it then, and I still like it now. I've been trying to find out all my life, what was the name of the song and what artist performed it.
Route 101, is in California, the journey along the seashore is spectacular.
My dad played country western guitar, it seemed rather odd he was a bigger fan of jazz than country. Im glad although, I listened to Herb growing up and it still stimulates me and has had a profound effect with my playing rock and blues..
FINALLY FOUND IT!!!! This song has been on the Price is Right for 30 years and Pluto has a Price is Right channel and finally got to shazam it after all these years!
Thanks for posting the videos. The ones I enjoyed the most are the ones from the 1974 Fourth TJB Special. I got endless fun from a sheet music book with the B flat trumpet solos for most of the songs from the first 8 albums. I was introduced to the TJB in 1966 when we played a medley in a band concert. Later on a friend of mine in the record business got me the album "You Smile, the Song Begins." I had all the previous albums already on vinyl and a handful also on open reel tape. I especially liked the 4th TJB special because the on-camera songs were played live. The previous specials and TV appearances, like the Hollywood Palace, seemed to use pre-recorded sound, as was the custom in those days. I view the 1960's videos as very early music videos, although the new arrangements of "A Taste of Honey" and "Moon River" were greatly appreciated. About 19 years ago, before the signature series CDs came out, I collaborated with another fan and collected all the Japanese CDs available (quite expensive!) and filled in the rest with 7.5 ips open reel tape. (Also quite a task of tracking down unopened tapes!) I had a pair of very nice tape decks and digitized the tapes, carefully applying judicious amounts of noise removal and small amounts of tweaks. Fixed the miscue of one singer on "Tijuana Sauerkraut" and was very proud of the effort. That is, until the CDs were finally released in the US. :) I recently rediscovered my recording of the entire 4th special, and the video quality is pretty good. Thanks for the posts. Enjoyed "Puttin'on the Ritz" and I was very glad you decided to release "The Lost Treasures."
I remember when this song was brand new. Funny thing though, because it's an instrumental it took me 20+ years to find out who recorded it and what the title is. 32 years and it still gets me excited. Thank you for the music, sir :-)

One of the greatest instrumental Jazz songs I have ever heard by Mr. Herb Alpert. Between, Mr. Alpert " Route 101", Herbie Hancocks "Stars in your eyes" & MFSB "My mood" is heaven!
I had such a long time of not hearing this tune, but it is still great to hear nearly forty years after it was released, I like the cool way in which Herb plays the trumpet.
Thank You Herb Alpert & Jerry Moss for giving us A&M Records along with the countless artists who recorded for the label & let’s not forget A&M Recording Studios (Now Henson Recording Studios) which recorded & mixed thousands of records 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽 !!!
Herb, soy admiradora tuya desde mi juventud...me encanta tu música. Eres y has sido un gran trompetista! Y tu tema " This guy 's in love with you" me fascina...Tienes una voz muy suave y dulce! Eres muy lindo! Igual me encanta tu esposa... Muchas bendiciones a ambos!
