“Sometimes the best music you’ll make is something you leave out”. Man oh man, words of wisdom right there. That is so true. It took me a long time to learn that lesson. Thanks for posting this, really enjoyed it.

Amazing guitarist!! As a musician I'm no jazz buff by any means but I absolutely loved his style and feel... Weird to realise Herb would've been over 100 now.... His album Soft Shoe is one of my all-time favourites in any genre!!

Herb's story about an unrehearsed guitar solo with the Jimmy Dorsey band had me in stitches.

An interview is always better when the interviewer is well-informed ahead of time. Very nice interview on both their parts.

Grant green played a gibson es330 which was made “plywood” style and it was completely hollow inside. It didn’t have the solid maple block that runs through the entire guitar like the es 335’s do ect..and he sounded awesome. The “plywood” gibson es series guitars were made with 3 sheets of wood glued together. 2 sheets of maple wood and a sheet of poplar wood in the middle, it’s not like they were with plastic or cardboard. It’s obvious that an all solid wood guitar is more expensive and it surely has different tonal qualities but the gibson es 335 series was and still one of the best selling guitar series in the world.... since they began making them...

Gibson specs show the 165 to be the same laminate body as a 175. Not sure what Herb was meaning by all solid wood..

The interviewer's questions sound like he got them out of an interview book...as if he knows not very much about guitar or Herb
